Sorry, but there will be no new column today, I didn't get done over the weekend, so I had to spend today finishing up my income taxes. Regular columns will resume tomorrow, and I apologize for there being no new column today.

There will be no new column today, sorry. I considered either writing another precursor column to tonight's big speech (which would have wondered if Donald Trump was going to lay out a rationale for going to war with Iran, which we seem to be sleepwalking into), but then I decided the question will be [...]

We're at the halfway point in awards season, with the first round done and the second still to go. So today I am asking once again for nominations for the second round of our year-end awards.
Cast your mind back over the whole year (which, since Trump was in charge, seemed like a much longer time period than that!) and nominate your own candidates for the following list of categories. There are a bunch of them, as always, so there should be a category that fits for most of the important people and events of the year.

Some of you may have been wondering whether this was even going to happen this year, but here we are, happy to welcome you once again to our year-end begging season (where I shamelessly ask you to send me your hard-earned money to support this site and keep the lights on for the upcoming year).
The reason I held off launching this pledge drive until now is that I was feeling incredibly embarrassed and ashamed of myself because an entire year had gone by (once again) without the website being updated and rebuilt. So our big news: this is now underway! Woo hoo!
Somehow I just couldn't bring myself to ask for more money without finally making good on this long-standing promise, which is why I held off on this announcement until today. Last year, I had actually picked out a web developer and started the process, but he quickly left for foreign shores and "ghosted" me, so it wound up not going anywhere (and leaving me awfully frustrated).

It's that time of year again! Time to review the past 12 months and hand out awards to those who have earned them.
It's been an eventful year, of course, so many of these categories will have multiple possible winners. Listed below are the categories for the first installment, which will run this Friday. We'll open the nominations up for the second part next week.

Alas, I had too much real-life stuff to deal with today to write a column. My apologies for the interruption in service.
If I had written something today, I would have been tempted to write about Vladimir Putin yanking the rug out from under Donald Trump by now refusing to even consider a summit meeting [...]

Due to me being busy all day running errands, there will be no new column today. I apologize for the interruption in service (but at least I got a few "real life" things done here...). Regular columns will reappear starting tomorrow. And again, sorry for playing hooky today.

No column today, as I am enjoying the holiday by doing a whole lot of nothing.

After watching and waiting all afternoon, it is looking like the talks at the White House will continue at least through dinnertime. So I decided that writing a column with only half-impressions (or half-baked impressions) of what was going on was a pointless waste of time, so I will not be posting a column [...]

I have decided that today is a fine day to play hooky.
I apologize for this, but given the niceness of the summer day here and the choice between enjoying it fully and writing a very snarky column, I chose the former. What I would have written about was the gleeful schadenfreude those of us who live in the reality-based world have been feeling at watching those who live in the MAGA world absolutely melt down over the revelation that one of their favorite conspiracy theories has turned out to be just that -- not based in anything other than feverish swamp dreams.
