A Party That Condemns Racism Versus A Party That Enables It

[ Posted Wednesday, October 12th, 2022 – 15:29 UTC ]

The moral divide between the two major American political parties has become pretty stark. On the one hand, you have a party which stands for respect, inclusiveness, diversity, and multiculturalism; and on the other you have a party which no longer even feels the necessity to cloak its racist language in "dog whistles" anymore. Dog whistles are so passé, at least over on the Republican side of the aisle today. All manner of bigotry (including racism) is now not something for the GOP to condemn or punish or even be ashamed about, instead it is to be either enabled (by saying nothing) or actually celebrated in front of throngs of cheering crowds.

Of course, like most of the breakdown in civilized and upright behavior over on the right, this can mostly be laid at Donald Trump's feet. Not the racism or bigotry itself, mind you (which has certainly been around a lot longer than Trump has been on the political stage), but the embrace and naked admission of it all in public -- which might be called Trump's signature move.

Two incidents over the past week have put this on display in rather obvious fashion. A Los Angeles city politician was caught on tape saying some reprehensible and racist things. And a sitting U.S. senator bellowed some reprehensible and racist things at a political rally. One was a Democrat, one a Republican.

The Democrat, City Council President Nury Martinez, had an uncensored tape leaked where she was speaking to two other city councilmembers and a Labor organizer. Martinez, who is a Latina, was discussing the redistricting of the city, and pushing the idea that the districts should be drawn to maximize Latino political power while diminishing electoral power for various other minorities. The other participants in the conversation did not push back against some awfully racist language (with some profanity sprinkled in), including calling a Black child of another councilmember a "little monkey" (in Spanish).

The Republican, Senator Tommy Tuberville of Alabama, used racist remarks (with some profanity sprinkled in) to paint the picture that all criminals were Black, and all Blacks were therefore probably criminals. There's just no other way to read his remarks, really. The crowd cheered enthusiastically in response.

So what have the two parties done about it since? The Democrats -- from Joe Biden on down -- are calling for all three councilmembers to resign. Republicans are totally silent on Tuberville, uttering nary a peep in protest. As I said, the moral difference simply could not be more stark. One party condemns racism, the other enables it by their silence.

To date, Nury Martinez has resigned her position as president of the city council -- but has not (yet) resigned her seat on that council. She has taken a leave of absence instead. All three councilmembers have issued apologies. This is likely not going to be enough, especially for Martinez. All three may eventually be forced to resign. The California Department of Justice (run by a Democratic attorney general) has announced it will be investigating the city's redistricting for racial bias. Her remarks have been widely condemned, with no Democrat still supporting her. The condemnation has been universal, across the entire party.

To date, Tommy Tuberville has not resigned. He has not apologized. He refuses to even answer media queries as to what, exactly, he was even referring to. He is stonewalling everyone. Which is probably smart, because not a single prominent national Republican has yet to publicly condemn what he said. This is what enabling racism within the party's ranks looks like.

Tuberville's not the only Republican who is feeling more and more comfortable about just coming out and saying what he really feels about race. Pretty much anything Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene says will have some racism thrown in the mix. And there's a reason for all this.

Tuberville was speaking at a Trump rally. The crowd loudly cheered his comments. They loved it. They ate it up. And this is precisely why all the other Republicans refuse to condemn Tuberville's remarks. Because to do so would not just be to condemn Trump (by association), but it would also condemn all those Trump supporters who cheered when they heard the remarks. And those Trump voters are now the Republican base.

Donald Trump made being nakedly racist not just mainstream within the Republican Party, but an actual applause line. Any other Republicans who are horrified at this development have only their own silence to blame. Condemning Trump for any reason under the sun already equates to political suicide within the GOP ranks, and now all the other Republicans out there spouting racist garbage have to be coddled as well -- lest the base turn on you and your political career come screeching to a halt.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is seen as somewhat estranged from Trump, but even he would not condemn a Trump racist attack on his own wife. That's how cowardly the party has become. Even those who are on the outs with Trump still fear his base voters.

This is the epitome of "moral relativism," which is a polite way of saying: "We will condemn the other side for all kinds of things, but never condemn any member of our own for anything whatsoever, no matter how reprehensible." Like I said, it is moral cowardice, plain and simple.

The president of the United States felt it was appropriate to weigh in on a controversy within his own party, even though the politicians involved were pretty minor, all things considered. Joe Biden didn't have to comment -- this is merely a city council, after all. But he did. His spokeswoman said Biden thought all three councilmembers should resign their seats, which is exactly the right position to take.

The last Republican president not only didn't condemn a controversy within his own party, he celebrated it -- Tuberville made the comments at a Trump rally, after all. By doing so, Trump signalled that other Republicans shouldn't even think of saying anything bad about the remarks -- which they all then meekly complied with.

Democrats have the moral high road, obviously. They should even use this politically, much as Republicans beat them up in the 1990s over the politics of "taking personal responsibility for one's words and actions." One Democrat has shown how to do this, in a recent debate, in fact. Tim Ryan, running for the Senate in Ohio, debated J. D. Vance and turned Trump's own words against Vance. Trump loves to humiliate those Republicans who once did have a moral compass and denounced his divisive tactics... but then later gave in and supported him even though they knew it was morally the wrong thing to do. Trump humiliated Vance by appearing at a rally for Vance and joking that while Vance wasn't always his supporter, now he is reliably "kissing my ass." Ryan brilliantly turned this back on Vance by saying Ohio "needs an ass-kicker, not an ass-kisser."

Republicans are currently walking down a dark and dangerous path. What they denounce as "cancel culture" is really nothing more than being held accountable to some sort of standard of behavior. And being called to account, and there being some consequences for ignoring all standards of decency. That is what Trump has freed them from, as far as they're concerned, and more and more examples of it will keep popping up precisely because no national Republican leader is out there condemning it in the strongest possible terms. It is almost impossible to even imagine any Republican today calling for Tommy Tuberville to resign his office, to put this another way. Well, maybe Liz Cheney, but she's obviously an outlier (as she is about to disappear from the Republican stage, for turning on Trump). Silence equals complicity. And there's a deafening silence coming from the Republicans, not just over Tuberville's odious remarks but over all kinds of similar ugly language being routinely used within their caucus.

The only thing that's ever going to change this dynamic is if the voters begin holding Republicans accountable for it. So far, Republican voters don't seem inclined to do so. Independents, however, may be critical in close races -- only in the reddest states can politicians win with just the Trump base behind them. But until the Republicans begin to pay a real political price for their naked racism and bigotry, we can all expect this sort of thing to become more and more common on the right.

Biden’s lies and outright fabrications are constantly dismissed, downplayed and softened by media

Reporters look the other way when Biden ‘constantly lies with impunity,’ Joe Concha said

The media has long downplayed and softened President Biden’s decades-long history of falsehoods, as most recently evidenced by a euphemism-filled New York Times report that referred to outright fabrications and lies as "folklore" stories with "factual edges shaved off."

The Times finally discovered Biden’s trouble with the truth on Tuesday but was widely mocked for using mealy-mouthed language in the report.

The Times noted Biden has lied about being "raised in the Puerto Rican community at home," his academic record, his life story, being arrested when protesting civil rights, being arrested in South Africa, pinning a Silver Star on a Navy captain and even the timeline when he rode on Amtrak to visit his sick mother, among other things. He’s told other unbelievable stories that the Times failed to mention, such as the claim he confronted a gang leader named "Corn Pop" in the 1960s.

But instead of flatly calling Biden a liar, the Times said he "embellished narratives, sometimes only loosely based on the facts, to weave together his political identity."

President Biden erroneously said that his son, Beau, "lost his life in Iraq" during a speech in Colorado on Wednesday.

"I say this as a father of a man and won the Bronze Star, the conspicuous service medal, and lost his life in Iraq," Biden said.

Biden made the speech on Wednesday near Vail, Colorado, where he designated Camp Hale as a national monument.

Some of Biden’s dishonest statements are political, such as the time he claimed the economy had "zero percent inflation" during July when it was actually 8.5%. Other times, they’re wildly exaggerated tidbits about his personal life. He often botches key details, misremembers dates and sometimes seems to just make up or embellish tales about his past.

He has falsely claimed he was "appointed" to the Naval Academy, dishonestly said he was arrested in South Africa, misleadingly bragged he was arrested during the civil rights movement in the United Stated, inaccurately claimed he was once a professional truck driver and oddly claimed he was "sort of raised in the Puerto Rican community at home."

Biden’s lies are sometimes repeated multiple times, often growing bigger with each exaggerated version of the actual event. He declared this week that "everything was ruined" from the basement to the attic and "we almost lost a couple firefighters" when lightning struck his home 15 years ago.

However, the Associated Press at the time reported that "no one was injured" in the "small fire that was contained to the kitchen" and under control within 20 minutes.

Greg Price, a senior digital strategist for X Strategies, put a spotlight on Biden’s fire falsehood by sharing footage of the apparent exaggeration. He believes "Biden has spent his entire career lying" but regularly gets a pass from the mainstream media.

"The reason he gets away with it is because, contrary to what Chris Cilizza once said, reporters do in fact root for a side," Price told Fox News Digital, referring to the CNN’s reliably liberal Cillizza famously claiming that "reporters don’t root for a side. Period."

Georgia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams said recently there is "no such thing" as a fetal heartbeat at six weeks gestation. Abrams made this outrageous claim in a speech in Atlanta, saying, "it is a manufactured sound designed to convince people that men have the right to take control of a woman's body." Abrams has also suggested that Georgia's heartbeat law shouldn't be referred to as a "heartbeat law" because "that's medically false, biologically a lie."

As an OB/GYN who cared for women and their babies for almost 30 years, I have been unable to get these disgraceful comments out of my mind. I have personally been in the room when women first heard the beautiful sound of their baby's heartbeat. It is truly a magical moment and you don't need to be a medical doctor to be able to say that. Millions of women who have experienced the wonder of pregnancy would agree with me. Over the course of nearly three decades, I delivered more than 3,000 children in North Texas. I have spent hours listening to newborns' miraculous cries. In the brief silence between those incredible shouts, I heard the hums and alerts of the remarkable medical technologies which monitored the mother and child—and had tracked their health for months prior to delivery.

Wholesale prices rise for first time in three months and show U.S. inflation still raging

Producer price index climbs 0.4% in September --- double the Wall Street forecast

The numbers: U.S. wholesale prices rose 0.4% in September to mark the first increase in three months, signaling little progress in the Federal Reserve’s fight to vanquish high inflation.

Economists polled by The Wall Street Journal had forecast a 0.2% gain. Wholesale prices had fallen in August and July entirely because of declining gasoline prices.

The increase in wholesale prices over the past year, meanwhile, fell slightly to 8.5% from 8.7% in the prior month. Inflation is still running near a 40-year high, however.

A separate measure of wholesale prices that strips out volatile food and energy costs also increase 0.4% last month, the government said Wednesday. That was a larger than expected.

The increase in these so-called core prices over the past year was flat at 5.6%.

The change in wholesale prices offers clues on how much inflation is increasing. The consumer price index due on Thursday gives a better idea of how much the cost of living is going up for U.S. households.

CDC director's sole 'parents' meeting on school reopening guidance featured left-wing activists, docs reveal

Rochelle Walensky met with the leader of a transgender-aligned group and others at orgs that are funded by deep-pocketed Democratic donors

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention director Dr. Rochelle Walensky met with parents just once leading up to the release of school reopening guidance last year. Now, new documents obtained by Fox News Digital reveal the parents featured in that meeting were primarily left-wing activists, including the head of a transgender-aligned group and others at organizations funded by Democratic megadonors.

Walensky frequently touted that they had consulted parents' needs for the guidance despite her calendar containing the sole 30-minute meeting. American Federation of Teachers president Randi Weingarten used the event to attack Fox News Digital and other publications for reporting on the CDC's closeness with teachers' unions. In May 2021, Weingarten tweeted a screenshot of a CDC email showing the event, saying the outlets "are probably never going to let their readers know that the CDC met with parents too."

The parents who participated in the meeting, however, almost exclusively included a handful of liberal activists, according to the previously redacted emails obtained by Americans for Public Trust as part of their FOIA lawsuit against the CDC and shared with Fox News Digital.

Things Are Much Worse Than They Seem for Democrats

Don’t believe the psy-ops polls: Democrats are in for a shellacking unlike any they’ve had in a long while.

As sure as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, corporate propagandists offer their best psy-ops for the midterms. Through the summer and into the early part of fall, they were driving the narrative that somehow the midterm elections were not going to be particularly devastating for the freakish Left, and by that I mean Democrats writ large.

The general narrative—and this is the Cliffs Notes version—was that there is nothing to worry about as our economic house burns down, violent crime explodes, and our southern border collapses. In reality, it’s not that bad at all. Actually, it’s good for you! Those flames you see burning down the house, in fact, are a source of warmth to brighten your evening. And don’t worry, the foundations should still be intact when the flames die down. Maybe.

The most blatant attempt at shaping a rosy narrative for Democrats about the midterms has been the absurd push to take note of “registered voter” polls, which in the real world means almost nothing. The “likely voter” polls—that is, polls of people who are actually likely to vote in the midterms—paint a different picture across the board, from the congressional generic ballot to the Senate and gubernatorial races. Nevertheless, as is sadly and predictably the case, there are those on the Right who have fallen for this psy-op. If one really wants to get a snapshot of reality, look at the polls strictly focused on likely independent voters only.

The Saudi government, which leads the OPEC oil conglomerate, rejected appeals from the U.S. last week and moved forward with cutting oil production, potentially causing gas prices to spike in the U.S. before Election Day.

On Another Brutal Inflation Report, the Context Makes It Even Worse for Democrats

The final pre-midterms Consumer Price Index dropped this morning, and it was bad -- worse than expected, in fact, as were wholesale prices earlier in the week. Both figures increased by double the consensus estimates. Inflation is getting hotter, with core inflation surging even more than the headline CPI number. Whatever the Fed has been doing to combat inflation is looking insufficient, raising the likelihood of more painful actions to stifle the US economy. The possibility of a semi-miraculous "soft landing" now appears more even remote. We have already met the definition of a technical recession, no matter how often the president and his administration try to pretend that's not the case. But what might be coming down the pike looks worse. Some lowlights from the new report, in case you missed it:

Just In: Inflation rose 8.2% in the past year. That down from the 40-year high of 9.1% in June, but it’s still way too high.

In September alone, inflation rose 0.4%, which is up from 0.1% in August.

Food and rent prices continue to climb...

I said *ALMOST* have to feel sorry for Dems.

They deserve ALL the misery they are getting for imposing such misery on the American people for the last 2 years...

In Overheated Economy, Dems Forced To Cool Climate Messaging

Eric Sorensen, a Democrat running for an open seat in a northwest Illinois congressional district that Donald Trump narrowly won twice, concluded recently that his campaign website’s top issues section needed a major reshuffling.

A section entitled “Addressing Climate Change,” which was initially leading the page, was relegated to the no. 4 spot, according to a comparison of the archived version of the website. The revamped website’s top two sections were new: “Addressing Rising Costs” and “Securing Reproductive Rights.”

Sorensen’s re-tooled website reflects the purple nature of his district and the shifting realities of the 2022 midterms as candidates head into the final stretch. Democrats are facing severe headwinds when it comes to the economy and inflation, and they can’t afford to dodge the issue or ignore the pain it's causing many low- and middle-income Americans.

LA City Council scandal exposes Democrats’ politics of racial division

Progressive politicians want you to believe that their public position is also their private position and that their advocacy for fairness and equality among our diverse nation is pure and incorruptible.

However, when people look beyond their fantastical rhetoric and focus on the disastrous outcomes of putting these people in power, we start to see who they really are: identity-obsessed racists.

On Oct. 9, leaked audio surfaced to the public involving a private meeting between Los Angeles City Council President Nury Martinez, Council members Gil Cedillo, Kevin de Leon, and the LA Labor Federation President Ron Herrera, allowing us to see the authentic side of progressivism.

The conversation, led by Martinez, ranged from ridiculing City Council member Mike Bonin’s black son as “a little monkey” in Spanish for his behavior on a float and Bonin for “raising his son like he’s white” to insulting District Attorney George Gascón by saying “F–k that guy. He’s with the blacks.”

Progressives see black people as their emotional-support animals whom they can publicly pet for personal comfort by claiming their lives matter but behind the scenes feed them nothing but garbage as they purposely mistreat them or at minimum, neglect them.

Nury Martinez and her council cohort are the perfect examples of how perverse progressives operate when they’re given political power. Progressive politicians will inevitably divide people into groups to either support their agenda because they are one of them or malign them because they are outsiders.

“Fuck that guy. He’s with the blacks” encapsulates their collectivist mentality and every opponent of those council members should run that audio clip on a loop until people understand how mentally downtrodden these people are.

But I thought the progressive mantra was that they are all “with the blacks?” What happened to equitable treatment? For those council members, equitable treatment comes at a cost of political power and you can’t authentically support people you despise.

    Oh SNAP!!!! That is BRUTAL!!!

But it's true.. Democrats view black Americans as their "emotional support animals"..

I guess Democrats never really lost their superiority complex vis a vis black Americans.. :eyeroll:

Meet the five Democrats in key Senate races who have expressed support for eliminating cash bail

Crime is now more of a concern for voters than abortion, according to recent polling

Past and present support for certain policies related to crime from left-wing Senate candidates could be a hindrance for Democrats in the upcoming midterm elections as they seek to maintain control in Congress.

At least five Democrats running for Senate positions around the country — John Fetterman, Rep. Tim Ryan, Mandela Barnes, Cheri Beasley, and Sen. Raphael Warnock — have voiced support for an end to cash bail in America.

Crime, which has skyrocketed across several major American cities, has become an important concern for voters ahead of the November elections, with a poll last month indicating that a majority view Republicans as more equipped to handle the issue that has become more important to them than abortion.

There is no purity in party politics, but there is something insidious about how progressives project racism onto conservatives while enacting policies that negatively affect minorities and choose to interact with racial minorities with an air of elitist condescension.

When they want to defund the police, as Nury Martinez advocated for, despite it being an unpopular policy position among black Americans, you now have your answer as to why they’re doing it: There aren’t enough black people who vote in their elections to truly give a damn. Black people’s safety is not nearly as important as their ideology, reelection bids and corporate lobbying dollars.

If ya'all REALLY want to talk about racism..

Why not talk about the MULTITUDE of Democrat Party policies that has brutally hurt black Americans??

    DEFUND THE POLICE

    BLACK LIVES MATTER

    NO BAIL

    PRO-CRIMINAL

All of those Democrat policies actively HURT the black American community...

President Trump had done more for black Americans and Native Americans than Democrats had since they fought tooth and nail against the Civil Rights Acts of the 50s and 60s...

    This is FACT..

“35 children murdered today? Call me when they catch up to women for per capita violent deaths…”

So innocent people getting killed is only a concern if they are doing a specific job? Not demonstrating a whole lot of compassion there, don’t you think? You do realize that taxi drivers aren’t required to wear Kevlar vests when they go to work… which would radically decrease the number of deaths if they did, right? The number of officers shot each year is still ridiculously high because everyone is armed! Murdering innocent people is never acceptable.

Funny, not a single Democrat here has ever threatened to file a false police report against an officer who they've never met simply because they got slapped down and their lies were exposed by that officer's spouse. You threatened to file a false police report that could have damaged the career of the officer all because your dishonesty got exposed.

You are the very last person to ever get to claim others are anti-police! With your threats and willingness to commit criminal acts to harm police officers and your years of stealing valor from those that actually served their communities... that you aren't completely ashamed of yourself for how much of a low life piece of scum your actions make you out to be is honestly stunning!

And what did Vance do? He abased himself further by jumping up on stage and shaking Trump's hand. If you think Yale educated lawyer and venture capitalist J.D. Vance doesn't know exactly who Donald Trump is, then you're the mark. While it's true Vance might gain a seat for himself in the United States Senate by becoming a Trump ass kisser and cock holster, he'll never again regain his dignity.

Ryan brilliantly turned this back on Vance by saying Ohio "needs an ass-kicker, not an ass-kisser."

    If the shoe fits.

Republicans are currently walking down a dark and dangerous path. What they denounce as "cancel culture" is really nothing more than being held accountable to some sort of standard of behavior.

Just like the Sandy Hook families that sued Alex Jones for the irreparable damage his lies had caused their families, the multiple police officers who are suing Donald Trump for his lies will also have their day in court. The wheels of justice turn slowly, but turn they do. :)

Police work is middle of the road statically as far as dangerous professions go. I only bring up taxi drivers as they are the most killed by other people per capita. By a wide margin. Of course neither of those even come close to forestry and fishery workers who also have safety equipment specific to their job. A quick search comes up with an average of 245 law enforcement officers hit by bullets ending in 45 fatalities per year. If every police officer hit by a bullet was killed it would still put police work in the same area of danger as crossing guards and Garbage collectors. If danger is a pedestal to which to judge people's work, why don't you see parades for fallen loggers?
