Program Note

[ Posted Tuesday, May 31st, 2016 – 17:27 UTC ]

There will be no column today, sorry. But the good news is that hopefully tomorrow's column will make up for it. I spent the day "on location" (with a press pass and everything) at a Bernie Sanders rally. It was too convenient to ignore, since it was only a couple of miles from where I live. But it was a long day, and I am (pardon the pun) "Bernt" out, for now. So much so that I can't even summon the energy to run a previous column. I will provide this link to the column I would have re-run, mostly because I'll be referencing it tomorrow. I can now say I saw the very beginning of Bernie's campaign as well as the very end. In any case, you'll have to wait for tomorrow's column to hear all about it, and for that, my apologies. Until then....

Michale: Hillary has smaller gatherings where she can talk to people and listen to people -- she's also been saving money for the general. Bernie has spent all his money on large rallies which are very expensive. The objective in the primary is to get the votes and the nomination. She'll do bigger rallies in the Fall.

She also admits to not being the best in big rallies -- they don't play to her strengths. But she's really good in Town Halls, etc. I think she'll be fine.

Will it mean anything to you if it turns out Trump has been grossly exaggerating the size of his fortune? This isn't snark -- I don't know what the truth is but stuff seems to be coming out that make it look like he's been claiming to have a lot more money than he probably has:

    http://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/alleged-billionaire

I have a number of other reasons for believing Trump's alleged wealth is basically a fraud - not my own reporting but piecing together various details from the reporting of others and things that have happened during this campaign. But one point Cuban references is key. Trump hasn't built a high-rise building in decades. He moved into licensing as his main business about fifteen or twenty years ago. If you're worth $10 billion do you waste time on Trump Steaks? Trump University? Of course not. That speaks to someone who's fairly strapped and needs every new revenue stream he can get. Still fabulously rich by mortal standards. But not running a thriving company worth $10 billion.

    Stay Tuned.

    I've read similar stuff elsewhere.

There's a couple of lovely people I know who were attracted to Trump because they believe he is a very successful businessman and that would make him a successful President. (I disagree with the premise that a success in business automatically means a success as a political leader, but that's a different discussion.) As noted in the quote above, Trump's unquestionably wealthy, but he was born that way.

In terms of business practices it appears he stiffs vendors, underpays union workers, tells the world his buildings are worth mega-bucks but reports them as being worth very little to the IRS, etc. Like most rich people he excels at paying accountants to get him tax advantages and lawyers to make problems go away. Its one way to define "successful" but just not one that I find appealing. Irregardless, he's got millions of dollars at minimum. Would it bother you if it turns out that's all he has, not the $10 Billion he claims?

    Michale, (from Friday's postings)

Sorry for it taking so long to respond, had a bit of an emergency I had to see to and was without my iPad for a few days.

Supernatural's ending was the only logical possible scenario available: Dark and Light had to make-up as neither could survive without the other. (The tune "Ebony & Ivory" being sung on SNL pops into my mind). I have enjoyed watching how they have gone with the new Reaper, Bobbi, and her involvement with Sam & Dean. The Witches were a riot! Not sure what Momma Winchester's return will result in story wise, other than regress the boys back to ten year olds, mentally. Thought it was weird that the European Men of Letters waited until NOW to reel in the boys....as God was dying... But like the Brits rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic back into their proper places, I guess they felt it was better to do it now instead of just doing nothing. I doubt Sam was actually shot or they would have shown us that to leave everyone fearing he was going to die. Overall, I really enjoyed it. Your thoughts?

    Not really...

Put another way... It will mean as much to me as Hillary dodging sniper fire in Bosnia means to you...

In the larger scheme of things (running a country) stuff like Hillary lieing about dodging sniper fire and Trump exaggerating his wealth doesn't mean much insofar as running a country goes....

    Listen,

Personally, I felt the ending was contrived and a bit too easy...

Going thru 24 episodes (granted, many were MOTW episodes) of the big and the bad and the impending catastrophe only to have them kiss and make up at the end?? Kinda a let down..

"We hug, we kiss, we smooze, we go home.. Whaadaya say??"
    -Hades, HERCULES

But only kinda... Because I am a sucker for happy endings, so I loved it.. :D

I have to say that, had I not known that SN was renewed for Season 12 I would have been VERY worried that this was a Series Finale..

Thought it was weird that the European Men of Letters waited until NOW to reel in the boys....

I know, right??? Obviously MOL will be a big part of S12... But again, it seems somewhat contrived that NOW Sam & Dean are an issue..

Not sure what Momma Winchester's return will result in story wise, other than regress the boys back to ten year olds, mentally.

Yea.. I mean what does it say about manly man Dean Winchester that the ONE thing he wants is his mommy..

I mean, yea I get it from a sentimental emotional point of view.. But it just doesn't fit the profile...

S12 is going to be interesting in that, with the minor piddly exception of Sam maybe getting shot (by a HUMAN of all things!!!) Season 12 is going to start with a clean slate...

Be interesting to see where the writers take it...

Far and way, my still favorite episode of the entire series is when Chuck returned as god...

I can't see ANYTHING that could top that... :D

Speaking of people we would like to see.. Where the hell is Adam!!! Yea, I mean, I know he's in hell... But it seems they can spring anyone and everyone from the cage except for Adam...

And I also have to say that I was REALLY disappointed that Chuck couldn't bring back Gabriel... He has got to be my favorite Archangel...

    Michale,

Yeah, the whole "it would take too long to create new Archangels... Primodridial ooze and all that kinda stuff" excuse was weak! The other thing I couldn't understand was why the Darkness would kill God knowing that it would mean the end of her as well! Why not enprison God in the box like God had done to her? I seriously thought that this was the show's final episode, which had me quickly jumping online to figure out WTF they were leaving cliffhangers for if that were the case. And if the Darkness & God decided to bring Mom back, would it have been too much to have zapped Sam and Dean to the same place she was before they disappeared?

Chuck revealing his true identity is my favorite episode as well. Two others that are right behind it...the high school musical of Supernatural & the Dorothy from Oz episodes! Loved both of those. The young girl in the play singing "Carry On Wayward Son".... that ROCKED!

I agree that Adam, and for that matter Eve, would have been really cool to meet...but there is still another full season, so anything is possible! Side note: Not sure if you were a fan of Galavant, but SN's Cain is King Richard. The actor who plays them both, Timothy Omundson, could be Comedy's next Leslie Neilsen as far as I am concerned. The two roles could not be more different from each other, which is a testament to his acting skills!

"Well, according to that reporter, not many people do.."

    :D heh

And MY HEART WILL GO ON where Castiel & Balthasar prevent the Titanic from sinking...

"If I had to hear that god-awful Celene Dion song one more time, I was going to have to smite myself!"
    "Who'se 'Celene Dion'???"
"Oh some destitute lounge singer in Quebec and can we keep it that way, please!!"

    Funny episodes...

Loved those episodes as well! Omundson has been at it for a LONG time! I think he was brilliant in Galavant -- his comic timing is just spot on. Glad it got picked up for one more year as well!

Since you are such a SN fan, have you ever read the book Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore? One of the things I have so appreciated about SN is that their writers have shown they possess a good understanding on what the Bible says and the twisted history of the Church. Moore could write for SN quite honestly, his storytelling abilities and sense of humor would fit right in.

Funny you should mention that.. When they introduced the character of Gadreel, I thought what a weird name for an angel. Turns out that Gadreel WAS the name of the angel who was supposed to guard Eden... :D

And Metatron?? Anyone who's seen DOGMA knows who Metatron is!
