Program Note

[ Posted Friday, May 21st, 2010 – 23:23 UTC ]

New ads are coming. They're likely going to be annoying. Sorry about that, but I feel it's better to take the advertisers' money than to beg for donations, personally.

This weekend, we'll be playing around with the ad layouts. If anything looks horrendous to you, or breaks your browser, let me know.

We're starting today, with a banner ad. It may have problems -- I've always had formatting problems with my header image, so it will come as no surprise. But let me know if it has totally broken your ability to view the site, as well as all other feedback.

And thanks, as always, for your patience.

    Chris,

Don't worry a lick about ads being "annoying"....
I bet I speak for those of us familar with your work when I say it's excellent news that more ads are coming.
Look forward to the day when you have to regretfully explain to an prospective advertiser that you will be unable to get his new ad "up" until Monday given that your webmaster (the masthead kitty?).....has to accompany you to DC for your appearances on Washinton Week and CSpan's "The Communicators".
More ads??.....To quote from "the book of Shrub"........"Bring it on!"

Thanks! Washington Week would be a lot of fun, I have to admit...

OK, here's an update. I kind of/sort of got another piece working. The banner ads seem to be OK now, and I've added the "Banter Media Group" widget, which keeps you posted on some other fine websites (and lists their most recent post, which is pretty cool, I have to admit, because I get listed on all their sites, too).

I know it looks a little funky with the old layout, and I'll be able to fix the style so it looks a little smoother in a bit here, but I've still got at least one more piece to get functionally working before I deal with layout and style.

Anyway, enjoy the BMG group, as this website is now a proud member, which also includes other such luminaries as Matt Osborne and Bob Cesca.

    Update -

OK, all three Banter pieces seem to be up and running. They are:

    top banner ad
    side square ad
    side Banter list

The layout on the side stuff still has a few problems, and may at random appear in strange places on the right sidebar (the order of appearance may get wonky).

Everyone, please let me know if you experience any problems with the site or the ads. And thank you for your continued patience with my poor attempts at layout and coding...

But wait... wouldn't that (according to your definition) be economic terrorism against my web site?

    Heh heh. Couldn't resist.

    Chris,

I'm with tc on this but, do you have any control over what ads are flashing across your site?

I keep seeing the some ones and they don't reflect well on what you're doing here ... Obama Care - Stop Him! ... Sarah Palin - 2012 ... Economic Crisis - Who is to blame? with pictures of Bush, Obama, Clinton ... etc.

With this kind of stuff, I'm afraid that people will get the wrong idea about what this site is all about.

I think the ads use keywords to trigger what appears, thus if I write about "Obama" then ads would appear pro and con. That's how I understand it, anyway.

I mostly get car ads and Avatar ads, here...

But if you see anything truly offensive, please let me know right away, I'll see what I can do about it.

    Chris,

Just try to refrain from writing anything about Biden, then. Because I'm pretty sure there are no "pro" ads dealing with him out there in the blogosphere. :(

It's not that the ObamaCare - Stop Him! ad is offensive or anything ... it just reminds me too much of Michale's "crapcare" - it pains me to even type it. :(

It's all good, though, if you start raking it in! :)

So let me get this straight.

Your ads monitor the user's posts and then displays ads to that particular user based on what they have posted about???

How frak'in kewl is that!!! :D

Reminds me of the scenes in Cruise's MINORITY REPORT where the character would be walking down the street and video ads would be personalized directly for the passer-by.

    Gods, I love technology!! :D

    Liz,

    Well, at least you're padded.

You have no idea... :D hehehehehehehe
