Time To Get Serious About Marijuana

[ Posted Tuesday, November 13th, 2012 – 18:28 UTC ]

This is a roundabout way of introducing this column, by pointing out that we all saw the same Cheech and Chong movies, growing up. Which is doubtlessly why the governor of Colorado felt it was appropriate to send out the following as a response to the voters of his state approving marijuana legalization:

Revenge Of The Pot-Smoking, Gay-Marrying, Women-Empowering, DREAMing Liberals

[ Posted Wednesday, November 7th, 2012 – 17:23 UTC ]

Seriously, a man running for the most powerful office in the country didn't bother to plan for one of the two contingencies that were guaranteed to happen last night? And he wanted us to let him make crucial decisions for all of us? Willard Mitt Romney's shocking lack of preparedness last night, when it came to speech time, was truly the icing on the sweet, sweet cake of Barack Hussein Obama's second victorious election, at least for me.

Friday Talking Points [228] -- Debate Questions I'd Ask

[ Posted Friday, September 28th, 2012 – 17:28 UTC ]

Unsolicited advice to the Romney campaign: this is not the way to convince voters that your candidate isn't Thurston Howell III. I'm just sayin'....

Will Colorado Legalize Pot?

[ Posted Tuesday, September 25th, 2012 – 17:11 UTC ]

Are Colorado voters going to pass Amendment 64 in November, which would legalize recreational (not just medicinal) marijuana use for all adults in the state? The bigger question, should this come to pass, is what is the federal government going to do about it?

Obama Should "Evolve" On Marijuana

[ Posted Tuesday, September 11th, 2012 – 23:55 UTC ]

Here's a radical thought, as we change full-steam into convention season: Could the "marijuana vote" propel Barack Obama to victory in the upcoming election? This may sound a little far-fetched (and might indeed provoke "What are you smoking, dude?" sorts of comments) so please allow me to explain how this demographic could become key to the entire election, in one particular state.

Quick Update

[ Posted Tuesday, September 4th, 2012 – 16:46 UTC ]

Just a quick update as the Democratic National Convention gets rolling here.
I wrote a new article last week which is now appearing on the Huffington Post, but I don't have access to the text file of the article right now, nor do I have time to copy and paste and do a bunch of formatting. [...]

Friday Talking Points [219] -- Another Sad Day

[ Posted Friday, July 20th, 2012 – 15:28 UTC ]

To begin, we're not going to have our normal partisan talking points today. We're going to follow the lead set by Barack Obama and Mitt Romney, and we're just not going to go there today. There will be plenty of time for many vicious partisan talking points in the upcoming weeks, never fear. But today, it just doesn't feel right.

Friday Talking Points [215] -- Morning Phones A-Ringing

[ Posted Friday, June 22nd, 2012 – 17:44 UTC ]

For political wonks, this has been a week of waiting. Starting last weekend, we've all been waiting for Mitt Romney to address the issue of Barack Obama's new immigration policy. This waiting has been fruitless, and will continue for some time to come, apparently. Picture a phone ringing endlessly with nobody there to answer it... but we're getting ahead of ourselves.

The Marijuana Vote

[ Posted Monday, April 30th, 2012 – 16:22 UTC ]

Jimmy Kimmel is right... sort of. In this past weekend's schmooze-fest between media organizations and the president (and, for some inexplicable reason, Hollywood), Kimmel performed a comedy routine for the president and the assembled crowd. Towards the end (around 19:40 on the video), Kimmel made a few marijuana jokes. He started by directly asking the president "What is with the marijuana crackdown?" Of course, being a comedian, a few punchlines followed. But the most notable one -- like all good comedic roasting -- had a kernel of truth in it: "You know, pot smokers vote too. Sometimes a week after the election, but they vote."
