No Trump "Truths" Has Consequences

[ Posted Monday, April 4th, 2022 – 15:09 UTC ]

I can't believe I'm about to do this, but this is a column offering some free and helpful advice to Donald Trump.

No, really -- it's not an extended April Fools joke, I swear!

What inspired me to write some political advice for the former president was watching how his fledgling social media platform Truth Social seems to be going down the tubes. Launched in February (on Presidents' Day) it soon became a very popular download -- but that's where the success story ended. Because downloading the app (onto your Apple phone, since there is still no version for the Android yet) didn't get you in. People were put on a wait list with hundreds of thousands of people in front of them. Which is where they'd stay for weeks and weeks. The waitlist is now reportedly up to over 1.4 million. When people finally did make it onto the platform, there wasn't much of anybody there to talk to.

Then came the news that not many people are even downloading the app anymore -- from the opening-day highpoint, new downloads are down over 90 percent (some put the figure as high as 95 percent). And now it seems that two of the actual technological brains behind the app just left the company, with no public announcement and no visible plans to replace them.

I don't blame them. The rollout has been the biggest tech disaster since the Obamacare marketplace website opened up -- Trump's failure truly is of that magnitude. Devin Nunes -- a man with zero tech experience and no experience leading a large company -- was recruited to run the operation and confidently announced (when it became evident how not-ready-for-primetime the app was, soon after its launch) that it would be "fully operational" by the end of March. It's now April, and that isn't even close to being true.

But the elephant in the room is that Trump followers probably would have put up with all the delays and the non-functioning parts of the app until now without complaining too much, except for one thing: Trump refuses to use it. Hence this friendly word of advice: If you want it to succeed, you've got to actually give the people what they came for, Mister Trump.

Trump's only "truth" to date (the app is a close copy of Twitter, except you don't "tweet," you "truth" instead) was posted on launch day, back in February. It said, in its entirety:

Get Ready! Your favorite President will see you soon!

Since then, nothing. Nada.

Now, I personally have no interest in Truth Social. I certainly haven't downloaded the app, and have no plans to do so at any time. Seeing Trump's personal brand become a miserable failure in the social media sphere brings a warm schadenfreude glow to me, in fact. But I still wonder why Trump is so spectacularly shooting himself in the foot in such a public way.

His is far and away the most popular account to follow on Truth Social, with over 800,000 followers. But all those people are getting nothing at all from him. And I hadn't seen a plausible explanation for this until I came across the following, in a Daily Beast article:

As The Daily Beast reported early last month, the twice-impeached former president has in the past several weeks privately fumed about the blisteringly negative media coverage of the app's rollout and number of users and visitors. "What the fuck is going on?" Trump was repeatedly heard snapping into his phone, demanding to know why Truth Social wasn't a runaway success.

The former president had wished the website, which was backed by big money and significant partnerships, would be another tool for bringing in revenue, and yet another way to help keep Trump relevant and constantly in the national conversation. Trump also hoped Truth Social would help him achieve his fully realized vengeance against his supposedly Trump-hating, Big Tech adversaries.

Instead, less than two months into the launch, Trump has all but given up on his own high-profile MAGA app, and has barely even touched his personal account on Truth Social. According to people familiar with the matter, Trump continued throughout the rest of March to sporadically complain about how poorly his website was performing.

. . .

Asked by The Daily Beast why the ex-president wasn't prolifically using the app himself these days, another source -- who has spoken to Trump about his floundering social-media company in the past few weeks -- simply replied, "He wants it to be a hit first."

It is not, currently, a hit by reasonable and objective metrics.

So Trump wants Truth Social to be a hit, but he refuses to use it -- which might be the only possible way for it to become "a hit" -- or, at the very least, not another miss (in a long line of Trump-branded companies and products that have failed). He is shooting Trump Social (and himself) in the foot, obviously.

Trump's greatest fear, of course, is to be thought of as a failure. Soon after leaving the White House he launched a blog that quickly failed, so this would be his second strike in the online communications realm. But this paralysis is the single biggest contributor to the failure of Truth Social, which Trump just doesn't quite seem to grasp.

If I were (shudder) a Trump loyalist who had downloaded a Trump social media platform that was promised to be better than Twitter -- and wouldn't ever kick people off for extreme political views -- then the one big thing I would be looking for would be the triumphant return of Trump himself to social media. Trump has been exiled from most social media platforms for over a year now, so I'd be eager to see what he has to say about everything without any sort of filter whatsoever. Trump's never going to kick himself off his own social media platform, so I would be expecting him to lead the pack in sending out outrageous messages skewering all and sundry. Let the liberal tears fall like rain! Instead, though, what his loyal followers have gotten has been... precisely nothing.

The implied draw of Truth Social was Trump. Without Trump, there's not a whole lot of reason to be there. Trump could even spin things to his advantage, even at this late a date: "We had some rollout problems due to sabotage from the Deep State, but now that I am speaking on Truth Social, the numbers are through the roof! Best numbers ever!" It's not that hard, really, knowing how Trump loves to claim credit. And the numbers would almost assuredly go up, since they are now so low as to barely be measurable.

Trump must have known there'd be a growth curve to any new project. He once commanded 80 million Twitter followers and now has one-one-hundredth of that on his own platform, so there's plenty of room to grow. But he could still build a media buzz around his new venture if it were the only place online where anyone could see his own communications. People would start using it a lot more, they'd start talking about Trump's "truths" more (one would expect lots of agreement and approval, of course, to be echoed back at him), and more and more people would want to sign up.

Of course, that would mean they would actually have to be able to sign up. If the wait list is up to 1.4 million now, imagine how high it might get if Trump was active on the platform. But whether it is his inherent fear of failure or something else, Trump refuses to even attempt to throw a lifesaver to his own platform -- which seems almost certain to be its death knell. The only thing Trump will have accomplished if Truth Social does go down in flames is to add a second online media venture to his list of failed enterprises.

Oh, wait... there is one other thing it will have successfully accomplished. Truth Social did get Devin Nunes to resign from Congress -- a fact most sane people will be eternally grateful for. Can't forget that one, now can we?

Trump bad mouthed someone and everyone knew about it. If Truth Social can get to functional it still has to get the press to use it for quotes. Otherwise it's just for fundraising/grift...

A surge of recent reporting on Hunter Biden by outlets that once widely dismissed and downplayed reports about him in 2020 marks the latest chapter in the debate over mainstream media credibility.

"Federal investigation of Hunter Biden heats up," reads a CNN headline from March 30. "Hunter Biden Paid Tax Bill, but Broad Federal Investigation Continues," the New York Times wrote on March 16. "Inside Hunter Biden’s multimillion-dollar deals with a Chinese energy company," the Washington Post reported on March 30.

All three stories invoke Hunter Biden's infamous laptop, first reported on with less than a month to go in the 2020 election by the New York Post. It was widely dismissed as unreliable and even Russian disinformation by mainstream print and television outlets, especially MSNBC and CNN, and in an astonishing display of coordination, Twitter and Facebook blocked or limited sharing of the New York Post's article about Biden; Twitter even locked the New York Post out of its account for weeks.

‘We’re Going To Get Slaughtered’: Biden’s Poll Numbers

    Trigger Panic Mode For Democrats

President Joe Biden’s poll numbers are triggering panic mode for some Democrats ahead of the 2022 midterms, strategists said, according to The Hill.

“It’s bad,” an anonymous Democratic strategist said, according to The Hill. “You have an energy crisis that’s paralyzing and inflation is at a 40-year high and we’re heading into a recession. The problem is simple. The American people have lost confidence in him.”

“Everyone needs to come to terms with the reality that we’re going to get slaughtered in November,” the strategist reportedly continued. “That’s a fact. His polling has gotten worse not better. It’s indicative of the fact that people have lost confidence in his leadership. There’s nothing they’re going to be able to do.”

Chair of the Brookings Institutions governance study program and former domestic policy adviser to former President Bill Clinton, Bill Galston, said, “unless and until inflation comes down appreciably, that there’s going to be a ceiling on his job approval that’s a lot lower than the White House wants it to be.”

Child Porn Offenders: Jackson has stated that she did not “necessarily" view them as pedophiles; and has found federal sentencing guidelines “severe” and "outdated," reasoning that there’s easier access to porn on the Internet nowadays. As a D.C. judge, she has under-sentenced defendants in every case she could.

Accused Terrorists: Jackson has gone beyond her assigned work as a public defender to advocate for Guantanamo detainees, whom she calls victims of U.S. “war crimes.” Strikingly, Jackson omitted the full extent of her defense of Gitmo detainees from her Senate questionnaire: She represented not just one, as she claimed, but four, according to documents reviewed by RCI.

And most notably... Jackson Brown was chosen from just *TWO PERCENT* of the available pool of candidates..

It's a virtual impossibility that a quality candidate could have been chosen from such a limited pool...

Sure, she may be the TOP choice of 2%...

That’s the debate happening in Florida right now. Leftists are outraged about the new Florida law signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis protecting parental rights, dishonestly dubbed "Don’t Say Gay." Even Disney – a company that has a significant role in influencing kids through entertainment – has made headlines for condemning the legislation as activist employees at the company attempt to turn it into a propaganda arm for the far-left.

But let’s be clear: Florida’s new law never even mentions the word "gay." Rather, it bans classroom lessons on sexual orientation and gender identity in grades for kids aged 5 to 8 – something polling shows most Americans support.

    2. China's concept of domination is not military or racial as with Stalin and Hitler respectively, it's cultural. They don't want Taiwan to expand their territory, they want it to stamp out ideological dissent. Their main motive for supporting Russia is to take Western culture down a peg.

    3. Global economic interdependence means no great power has the means to actually conquer any other great power. They can win territory, gain influence, or blow up the planet. thus, the existential threat of a China-Russia alliance is MUCH more like cold war II than world war III.

Court Reinstates Louisiana AG’s Lawsuit Against Zuckerberg’s Election-Meddling Group

Zuckbucks were used to achieve targeted disenfranchisement, with rural Louisianans treated less favorably than fellow citizens in cities.

Last week, a Louisiana appellate court reinstated Attorney General Jeff Landry’s lawsuit challenging Mark Zuckerberg’s infiltration of the state election system with private “Zuck Bucks” that flooded the country during the 2020 election.

The lawsuit, State of Louisiana v. Center for Tech and Civic Life, originated in October 2020. That’s when Louisiana, through Landry, sought a court order declaring that “private contributions to local election officials and the election system in general are unlawful and contrary to Louisiana law.” Landry’s lawsuit followed attempts by the Zuckerberg-funded Center for Tech and Civic Life to dole out millions in targeted grants to election officials throughout the state.

Why would those gifts be considered “unlawful”? You sure seem to be supporting Don Harris’ suggestion that all large money donations result in corruption. Is there any proof that the non-profit’s gifts came with unlawful demands attached to them? Are you opposed to non-profits helping poor districts that do not have the resources needed to replace broken voting machines, or to hire much needed staff to assist election officials tasked with running our elections? Some of these grants help pay for more secure envelopes for absentee ballots that are mailed in. Is that a bad thing?
