Program Note

[ Posted Thursday, March 19th, 2009 – 17:54 UTC ]

There will be no column today.

This is due to having spent all day dealing with the federal government in a way I and my wife never have before.

Because Mrs. Chris Weigant was sworn in today as a citizen of the United States of America.

I am trying to make up for today's lack of column by convincing her to write a guest column about the experience, which I will post here over the weekend. Please join me in congratulating her on her newly-acquired citizenship, and add your voices to mine to convince her that people would like to hear her thoughts on the matter.

Thanks, and my apologies for the interruption of service. Rest assured, this sort of thing doesn't exactly happen every day!

Congratulations, Mrs Weigant! And, I hope your day spent dealing with the federal government was as pleasant as could be expected on this happy occasion and that it did not in any way rain on your parade, so to speak.

And, I really do hope that you will write here about your new citizenship - I would love to read all about it...you know, in anticipation of becoming the 51st state! I should tell you that I say that only half-jokingly!

So, Mrs Weigant, you should listen to your husband because, sometimes, he is right. :-)

If, as I suspect, she's as thoughtful as you, perhaps you could talk her into making a weekend column a regular event. As someone who goes into Chris withdrawal pains every weekend, I'd love to hear her take on things and more on her background. Plus it might attract MORE intelligent female readers like Elizabeth and ChicagoMolly. We male clutzes may outnumber your female fans, but the ones you have are "cherce". And please add my congratulations to your wife.

Congrats to your wife and I would love to hear her take on the whole experience. Please persuade her Chris because it would be interesting to hear the ins and outs that only those who choose the U.S. as home can know.

    To all -

Column is being written, even as I type. Will be posted late tonight or early Sunday.

Mrs. Chris thanks everyone for their warm and welcoming words, and is editing her work now. Sorry for the strange moniker, but she has chosen, for professional reasons, to be known here as Mrs. Chris Weigant.

(kevinem2, I'm not so sure male readers outnumber female. There's no box to check or anything, and with gender-neutral login names, your guess is as good as mine what the ratio truly is.)

Editing now. Should be up in about a half hour. Sorry for the delay, I added some fun bits at the bottom that are taking time to format...
