We Need More Jon Stewarts

[ Posted Wednesday, August 3rd, 2022 – 17:13 UTC ]

Jon Stewart, a television comedian, just did an amazing and powerful thing. He actually caused Senate Republicans to feel shame.

In this day and age, that is a rarity. The Republican Party has been taught many bad habits by Donald Trump, but one of the worst of all is utter shamelessness, which I would describe (politically) as the inability of your fellow citizens' opinions to sway yours in the least. Trump's "come Hell or high water" attitude and his absolute refusal to ever admit he was wrong about the slightest thing (see: Sharpiegate, et al) has caused Republicans like Ted Cruz (a shameless politician if there ever was one, even before Trump appeared on the scene) to completely divorce themselves from public opinion. They will just insist that down is up, that black is white, and that everyone else in the world is wrong while they have a secret line to the absolute truth (with zero evidence to back it up, of course).

This was on full display over the past week or so. A bill which should really have passed so quietly that only the people directly affected by it even noticed was suddenly in the midst of a gigantic partisan mudfight. Jon Stewart relentlessly reminded America how deeply shameful this display of naked partisanship was, and in the end, he won. The Republicans backed down. Stewart proved it is still possible to use this previously-potent political tool to effect real change. Which is why I say we could use a few more like him, slugging it out in the trenches of politics.

Stewart first entered politics to push for the first responders to 9/11 to be taken care of by a grateful country. At first, this did happen, but as the event faded into the past, Congress dragged its heels on continuing to provide the money to care for these heroes. Stewart championed their cause a few years ago and shamed Congress into doing the right thing and appropriating the money.

He reappeared in the midst of another example of a nation that should have been grateful and generous but instead was creating needless bureaucratic headaches for military veterans who had been exposed to the notorious "burn pits" in Afghanistan and Iraq. The military does not exactly have a stellar job in admitting fault when it comes to exposing soldiers to chemical toxins (see: Agent Orange), and was forcing the soldiers who had developed serious and even fatal diseases to prove that the diseases were a direct result of inhaling the fumes from burning batteries and tires and too many other toxic waste products of war to even contemplate.

Stewart helped champion a bill which would have flipped the burden of proof and automatically taken care of these sick veterans. Earlier (in June) it had easily sailed through the Senate on a vote of 84-13. It then was very slightly changed in the House to fix a technical issue, so the Senate was required to vote again on the new text. Nobody expected any problems with this vote, given the strength of the previous vote.

But then it got caught up in a Republican hissy fit. Mitch McConnell, for once, got outmaneuvered by Senators Chuck Schumer and Joe Manchin. McConnell had specifically threatened to withhold Republican support for a bill to increase American competitiveness against China, unless the (completely unrelated) effort by Democrats to pass pieces of Joe Biden's agenda using reconciliation rules somehow died (or "was killed by Manchin," more like). McConnell figured the Democratic effort was indeed dead because Manchin had publicly stated he was halting negotiations on the reconciliation bill, so McConnell allowed the China bill (the "Chips and Science" bill) to pass.

Hours later, Schumer announced that Manchin had struck a sweeping deal on the Democratic bill, which (surprisingly) included fighting climate change as well as bringing down the outrageously high cost of prescription drugs. McConnell was left with no "hostage" to take, legislatively. He had clearly been snookered. So he vented his rage by taking it out on America's veterans.

The "Honoring our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics Act" (or "Honoring our PACT Act" or even just "the PACT Act") was coming up for its vote. Senator Pat Toomey raised an objection that was obviously hastily arranged. Toomey insisted that somehow the dastardly Democrats had written into the bill some sort of "slush fund" that they might just -- in the future, mind you, with as-yet-unwritten legislation -- spend on something other than veterans.

The objection was specious. The language Toomey objected to was exactly the same as the language in the bill that passed with 84 votes. But this time around, the bill failed to clear a filibuster because 25 shameless Republicans switched their vote. Since the bill didn't have the requisite 60 votes, it would have died. Chuck Schumer switched his own vote to "no" in order to be able to bring the bill up again, and it failed on a vote of 55-42.

Just another day in dirty politics, for McConnell and the Republicans. At least, that's what they figured.

But Jon Stewart wasn't having any of it. He unleashed some very righteous anger at the Republicans, which they fully deserved. He accused them of playing politics with the lives of brave men and women who had worn the uniform of the United States, and he was entirely correct. He appeared on every television show that would book him -- which turned out to be a lot. He told the same sad story on each and every one of them -- a story of utter Republican cruelty and callousness. He decried "politics as usual" and brought down a hailstorm of shame upon the 25 Republicans who had changed their vote just to deny Joe Biden and the Democrats a win.

Amazingly, this worked! Today, Pat Toomey was allowed to put forward an amendment which would have changed the section he objected to. It failed. Then the bill -- as written, unamended -- was voted on again. It passed 86-11. This finally proved that Republicans can actually be shamed into doing the right thing. It was absolutely indefensible to play political games with the lives and health of America's veterans, Stewart pointed this out to anyone who would listen with a heaping dose of righteous anger, and Republicans buckled under the enormous political pressure that was brought to bear.

That's pretty good, for a television funnyman, you've got to admit.

Of course, this wouldn't work for everyone. In the first place, you've got to already be a well-known and well-loved national celebrity. If you aren't, you're not going to get booked onto those television shows and you can rant and rave all you want but nobody will be listening. But how many other savvy celebrities are there out there who are passionate about some political issue? Not in the long-term sense of creating a foundation or something along those lines (what Hollywood celebrities do, often as nothing more than a tax write-off), but in the more immediate sense of championing a righteous piece of legislation and applying the pressure to get it through Congress?

Some were tut-tutting about how Stewart didn't hew to the Michelle Obama line: "When they go low, we go high," but that is ridiculous. Stewart may have used some profanity and other strong language to rip into the shameful Republicans playing politics, but he was on the high moral road while doing so. This was obvious, since the Republicans couldn't actually defend the indefensible position of "screw the veterans," they instead tried to manufacture some budgetary nonsense instead. When that withered in the face of Stewart's scorn, the weakness of their position was made evident -- even to them.

Stewart's anger and righteousness were heartfelt. It was not some act. He was genuinely aghast and outraged at what had happened. Celebrities sometimes come off as real phonies, but it was plain to see that Stewart was speaking from his heart, honestly and forthrightly.

Democrats need this kind of righteous energy. They need to get this angry at what Republicans have been doing, are doing, and are planning on doing in the future. One was left wondering throughout the whole episode, in fact, just where President Joe Biden was. His son died of a cancer that could very well have been caused by exposure to toxic burn-pit air. He has intimated as much in the past. So where was his righteous anger at what the Republicans were doing? Well, he was quarantining with COVID, which limited his actions considerably, but his absence from the debate was indeed notable.

I for one applaud Jon Stewart and his successful attempt to shame Republicans into being decent human beings this week. But to be honest, I really didn't expect much from his effort. Maybe I've become too cynical, but I just didn't think it would break through the GOP's current mindset. But I was wrong, and it did.

Which leaves me wishing for more Jon Stewarts out there. There are a whole bunch of celebrities from multiple arenas (sports, acting, music, etc.) who carry equal or even greater weight with American public opinion and pop culture. They don't have to go into politics (the way Al Franken or Donald Trump did) to be a powerful voice in the political debate. That is what Jon Stewart has now proven, twice. And at the end of the day, it is at least a little reassuring to know that some Republicans (a lot of them, actually) are still capable of feeling public shame, and changing their behavior as a direct result.

I think it's important that we take a look back and see exactly how Weigantia® got to the point where scumbags like vick and russ felt it was perfectly appropriate to make gross personal attacks on commenters deceased mothers and commenters wives and children and grandchildren..

I mean, how did it get so depraved and perverse here where some low life like Russ attacks my dear passed away mother with vile and hateful personal attacks??

To understand how, we have to go way back...

Prior to the arrival of the likes of vick and russ, Weigantia® was a relatively calm and peaceful place.. Oh sure, we had our political disagreements.. But it never got personal beyond on the "OH jeeze yer such a moron for supporting blaa blaa blaaa"

But then vick showed up... And she couldn't handle being bested day after day and night after night.. So, she did want any hysterical and desperate luser did.. She did opposition research on me and found somethings about my past that she thought she could use to silence me..

I mean, just IMAGINE what an utter lowlife someone must be to scour the internet to try and dig up dirt on someone whose sole "crime" is kicking their asses up pne side and down the other...

Due to a (likely intentional) slip by a FORMER Weigantian®, vick was able to learn private information about me by hiring commercial web searchers that dug up dirt on people..

Back before the likes of Victoria et al got here and polluted Weigantia®, we were pretty open about ourselves, sharing pictures and personal information.. NYPoet even posted a YouTube of himself doing Karaoke.. THAT was a hoot!!! :D (Remember that, Jean Luc?? :D)

So, armed with the oppo research she paid for and the information I volunteered vick tried to use that information to extort me into silence..

Of course, me being me, I told her to take her oppo-research and shove it up her ass...

JL can attest to the validity of the factual nature of that incident as he himself called her on it at the time..

vick then became MORE desperate and bragged how she paid Deep Dive searchers to dig up more "dirt" on me.. And tried to use THAT to silence me..

Again, I told her to shove it up her ass...

Now, vick was ape-shit crazy with hysteria. She knew she couldn't control my comments as she had so hoped..

vick, being desperate, then started in on personal attacks on my wife, my children and my grandchildren..

I readily admit that my response (emphasis on RESPONSE) went a tad (OK slightly more than a tad) overboard and the Great Weigantian Flame War began in earnest..

Now at this point, I have to back-track a little.. For over a decade, CW and I had become very good friends.. Well as good of friends as one can become over the Internet.. We both shared a love of Star Trek specifically and Sci Fi in general..

He once sent me a copy of his first book..

I gifted a very nice very expensive HP laptop to his wife when she needed one... Ironically enough, CW told me that he and his wife were just recently talking about getting his lovely wife a laptop and an HP was the exact one they were looking at.. We were ATTUNED!! :D

CW once had an incident at Netroots Nation (or it might have been a DNC convention) that he talked about to us Weigantians. Privately he shared a YouTube video of the incident but asked me never to show it to anyone else.. I still have that video and, despite his later actions, I have held good on my promise never to release it..

CW helped me out here in Weigantia A LOT when my mother passed away (a particularly low time for me) and asked that usual political battles be put on hold to give me time to grieve..

CW also stepped up and helped me and my wife when my wife was in a severe car accident that almost cost her life..

So, suffice it to say we were VERY good friends. As good of friends that could possibly be without actually hanging out IRL...

All of that changed in November of 2016

The late CW really lost it when President Trump wiped the floor with Hillary Clinton.. He became irrational... As many other Weigantians did..

The late CW said and did things in Weigantia after President Trump's awesome victory that the Pre-President Trump CW would have found completely and utterly heinous and abhorrent not to mention downright despicable..

So, now getting back to my response to vick's personal attacks on my wife, my children and my grandchildren..

As I said, my RESPONSE to vick's personal attacks on my family were vicious and disgusting personal attacks on vick.. Not something I am proud of, but when she started in on my wife and family, something in me snapped..

These kinds of personal attacks went on for about a month.. Back and forth, day in and day out.. vick attacking my wife and family constantly and I responding with really disgusting personal attacks against vick..

Finally the late CW stepped in.. Read me the riot act and went on and on against me.. But, since CW was suffering from PTDS, the person who actually started all the problems, well vick got off scot-free... Not a word to her was said to her about anything...

It was then I realized that my old friend, CW had died...

Like Anakin Skywalker, CW turned to the Dark Side and the old CW was dead...

In his place rose the current Moderator of Weigantia who is as Dark Side as is possible to be without actually having killed younglings..

JL, now you know why CW is dead to me....

I am sure that, to those who weren't there, it sounds petty and insignificant.. Those who would think that simply don't understand the dynamic of Weigantia back then.. We were close.. We even talked about doing annual Weigantian Beer Summits... I still have the emails about that...

While I certainly accept my responsibility unlike scum like vick and russ who are content to just lay out gross personal attacks on my late mother, my wife, my children et al. I acknowledge my part in the
    cesspool that is Weigantia® today..

But it's an undeniable FACT that I have never instigated ANY of this and it has always been defensive measures..

Now ya'all know the facts of why we are here now and why scumbags like russ and vick think it's perfectly acceptable to make gross personal attacks on people's mothers who have passed away, people's wives... people's children... And even people's grand-children..

I mean, just imagine the sick and diseased and depraved mind that feels it is perfectly acceptable to attack a man's deceased mother, simply because you don't like the man's politics...

What a sad and pathetic low life that person must be...

In any case, the Weigantia® moderator needs to step in and stop these heinous and disgusting personal attacks on commenter's families...

It would be nice if the moderator could stop ALL personal attacks outside of the political arena, but I don't hold out much hope for that...

But it would be nice to see a rule put in place that makes a commenter's family off limits..

I know, I know.. In a CIVILIZED forum, such a rule would be obvious and self-evident to all...

But, unfortunately we don't have a civilized forum.. We have a forum in the thralls of PTDS and Trump/America hate....

So, a rule such as COMMENTER'S FAMILIES AND FRIENDS ARE OFF-LIMITS is obviously needed..

Not that I expect it... PTDS and Trump/America hate has made Weigantia® a cesspool of hate and disgust...

And, beyond me, no one seems inclined to take any steps to improve things..... :eyeroll:

Portland woman accused of hate crime against police as 'hostile' citizens try to stop DUI arrest

The Portland Police Department has had a strained relationship with the community over the last two years

A Portland woman has been charged with the city's version of a hate crime after a confrontation with a police officer during a DUI arrest.

Police responded to a rollover crash in North Portland on Saturday and discovered a Nissan Altima on the street upside down with a 5-year-old in the car, according to a press release from the Portland Police Department. Three other adults were able to evacuate the car, with the person suspected of being the driver attempting to flee the scene.

Police attempted to order 27-year-old Dominique R. Gonzales, who was injured in the crash, to remain on the scene. When police attempted to take him into custody, Gonzales "physically resisted the officers."

That's when 33-year-old Gregory L. Robinson and 35-year-old Sasha M. Lundy, the other two adult occupants of the car, attempted to "physically intervene" and interfere with the officer's attempted arrest of Gonzales, police said. The resulting commotion caused several people in the area to approach the scene and surround the officers, refusing to obey commands to give police space to work.

THE DAM BREAKS, AND KEY DEMS RUN AWAY FROM BIDEN '24. You've seen the polls showing that large majorities of Democratic voters want the party to pick a new nominee for president in 2024, bypassing incumbent President Joe Biden. Now we're seeing the living embodiment of those polls as some important Democratic lawmakers distance themselves from, or outright oppose, a reelection run by the nearly 80-year-old president.

It's not that senior Democrats are eager to disparage a president of their own party. They're not. Instead, they're being forced into it by the process of the 2022 campaign, in which they are trying to assure their own reelections. They're campaigning, doing interviews, and taking part in debates, and the question comes up.

Now it's time for some unpleasant FACTS for Democrats..

Why fossil fuels are here to stay

No matter what Democrats try to tell you

There is a political movement that seeks to end all fossil fuel use. The primary rationalization for this goal is the theory that the continued buildup of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere will result in global warming and degrade the natural environment. When he campaigned in 2020, President Biden promised, “We are going to get rid of fossil fuels.” Subsequent to his election, Mr. Biden followed through in a number of ways.

He shut down construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline and canceled oil lease sales in Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico. As the supply of petroleum was artificially strangled by these policies, the price of both oil and gasoline soared. High energy prices fueled inflation and reduced personal incomes.

The attempt to phase out fossil fuels is both misguided and dangerous. We use fossil fuels because they are inexpensive, reliable, abundant and concentrated forms of energy. Energy use correlates with life expectancy, literacy, education and prosperity, values that all human cultures appreciate. For several decades, fossil fuels have supplied about 80% of world energy. This is not going to change in the foreseeable future.

Pegula, Hurkacz go down in Citi Open upset wave
The U.S. Energy Information Administration estimates that in the year 2050, the two leading energy sources in the U.S. will be gas and oil. Renewables, while the fastest growing category, are only anticipated to supply about 20% of the energy mix. The Chinese are among those who have an appreciation for the inevitability of fossil fuels. China has more than a thousand coal-fired electric power plants, and coal use in China continues to increase, year after year.

    https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2022/aug/2/why-fossil-fuels-are-here-to-stay/

    These are the FACTS, people...

I know, I know.. You Democrats have some wet dream about getting rid of all fossil fuel products..

Let's ya'all show the rest of us how it's done..

Quit using ANY item that has something to do with petroleum products..

    Ya'all can't, can you???

Which simply proves that Democrats are a BIG part of the problem they claim will "destroy the planet"...

Hypocrisy is not a bug in Democrat programming. It's a feature.

The characterization of wind and solar power as “sustainable” and “renewable” is misleading. Only the fuels, wind and sunshine, are free. The infrastructure necessary to capture, concentrate, and deliver energy is not sustainable. Both wind and solar suffer from inherent limitations to which there is no conceivable technological solution. They are dilute and intermittent. There is no mechanical fix that can make the sun shine at night or the wind blow during a calm. Battery storage is insufficient by many orders of magnitude.

Mining raw materials for battery manufacture has environmental consequences. Lithium-ion batteries and solar panels wear out and accumulate in landfills as toxic waste with the potential for groundwater contamination. Renewable energy sources are entirely unsuitable for aviation and long-distance transport and cannot meet varying demands for electricity. It is a utopian fantasy to imagine that solar and wind power will ever be able to make more than marginal contributions to the energy mix.

Even Democrats claim of "sustainable" wind and power energy is a lie...

That's all Democrats do these days... They lie... Day in and day out, they lie... Their entire Hate Cops Hate America agenda is one big lie...

"The masks had given them headaches," Lundquist-Arora told Fox News Digital. "They didn’t like wearing them. So they found them problematic."

She appealed her older son's suspension in an email to Irving Middle School Principal Cynthia Conley, arguing it was inaccurate, misleading, and flew in the face of rights of privacy and political freedom. Because freeways and bridges are funded, in large part, through federal and state taxes on gasoline and diesel fuel, the battery-powered future will test whether roads can just be paved with good intentions.

Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are trying to devise new ways to raise that fuel tax revenue, which in fiscal year 2020 delivered $35 billion to the federal government and an additional $51 billion to state and local governments. Back then, Tavistock was prestigious—known all over the world for its professional seminars and specialized psychological treatments for mental-health patients. Before I ever worked there, I would attend lectures and training workshops to hear from renowned psychoanalysts, who were considered some of the best in the field.

A lot can change in a decade.

Last week, the National Health Service ordered that the gender youth clinic at Tavistock shut its doors by next spring. And I am part of the reason why.

The story of what happened at Tavistock is the story of how small group of whistleblowers—doctors, nurses, parents and patients, together with the help of journalists and reporters—were able to relentlessly expose activist-driven medicine that they knew was irresponsible. It’s also an object lesson for others who are deeply concerned about a one-size-fit-all approach to transgender healthcare and wonder what they should do about it.

As Media Turns on Biden, Don’t Forget Their Role in Creating Current Disaster

In recent weeks, the national media has generated an unusual amount of criticism directed at an unlikely political figure. Though most Americans have come to expect the nearly daily deluge of negative coverage of former President Donald Trump, conservative Supreme Court justices, and Congressional Republicans, the media’s new scapegoat is none other than the man they once hailed as “hero” and “savior”: President Joe Biden.

The summer months have seen a startlingly high volume of handwringing op-eds and cable news segments urging Biden not to seek a second term as president, or otherwise questioning his competency as Commander-in-Chief. On July 24, for instance, the Washington Post ran an op-ed titled “Quit, Joe, Quit!” In late June, Newsweek published a column “begging” Biden not to run in 2024. Several weeks prior, The Atlantic circulated a piece stating “bluntly” that “Joe Biden should not run for reelection in 2024.” Publications like the New York Times, CNN, The Hill, and others have repeatedly published polls reminding the American people that an overwhelming majority of voters—including most Democrats—do not want Biden to seek the presidency for a second time. The list goes on.

In addition to highlighting just how much of a disaster the Biden presidency has been, these headlines perfectly encapsulate why the media has lost so much trust with the public – and why their attacks on the president look so ridiculous now. The Biden presidency is, after all, the media’s own creation. Most Americans remember well the days of the media’s endless fawning over Biden during the 2020 campaign, as well as their zealous insistence that he was the only one who could, in their minds, save American democracy.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court ruling expanding gun rights threatens to upend firearms restrictions across the country as activists wage court battles over everything from bans on AR-15-style guns to age limits.

The decision handed down in June already has led one judge to temporarily block a Colorado town from enforcing a ban on the sale and possession of certain semi-automatic weapons.

The first major gun decision in more than a decade, the ruling could dramatically reshape gun laws in the U.S. even as a series of horrific mass shootings pushes the issue back into the headlines.

“The gun rights movement has been given a weapon of mass destruction, and it will annihilate approximately 75% of the gun laws eventually,” said Evan Nappen, a New Jersey gun rights attorney.

But the Colorado decision handed down last month, while still early in the process, was a rosy sign for gun rights groups.

U.S. District Court Judge Raymond Moore, who was nominated by President Barack Obama, said he was sympathetic to the town’s goal of preventing mass shootings like the one that killed 10 people at a grocery store in nearby Boulder last year. But Moore said he didn’t know of “historical precedent” for a law banning “a type of weapon that is commonly used by law-abiding citizens for lawful purposes,” so the gun rights groups have a strong case against the ordinance.

Encouraged by that decision, Taylor D. Rhodes, the executive director of the Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, told The Associated Press that his group was considering going after other gun measures in Colorado, where Democrats hold the majority in the state legislature and the governor’s office.

Referring to the Supreme Court’s ruling, Rhodes said: “The Bruen decision gave us a 4-ton wrecking ball.”

Face reality, people.. The Democrat hysterical anti-gun agenda is going to crash and burn...

    It's really THAT simple... :D

And, of course, Trump and those cowards who abase themselves in his servitude are ever the perpetual whining wounded constantly mewling and foaming at the mouth about how they are somebody's/everybody's victims.

I cannot fathom why these whimpering poltroons even make the attempt to cast themselves as some kind of freedom warriors when what they actually represent is a political Party in a race to the bottom to determine which among them can enact the most draconian legislation containing heavy-handed government interference into rights of free speech, rights of privacy, rights to vote, etc... fascism masquerading as freedom.

“Corporate shill”: Sinema demands to save tax break for wealthy donors after meeting with lobbyists

Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., wants Democrats to drop a measure addressing a tax loophole used by hedge fund managers and private equity executives from Sen. Joe Manchin's, D-W.Va., climate and health care deal.

Sinema is the only Senate Democrat who has not committed to voting for the Inflation Reduction Act, a $740 billion deal cut by Manchin and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., to provide $369 billion in climate and energy funding, lower prescription drug costs and crack down on tax avoidance. After days of silence, Axios reported on Wednesday that Sinema has "concerns" about a tax measure that makes up less than 2% of the bill's revenue.

Sinema wants to "nix language" narrowing the so-called carried interest loophole, according to Politico. The loophole allows hedge fund managers and private equity execs to have their income taxed at the 15% capital gains tax instead of the standard, much higher income tax rate.

    The Washington fantasy world

But here's the thing — and you knew this was coming. The Inflation Reduction Act is not about reducing inflation. It will not reduce inflation in any significant way. As a matter of fact, the best-informed debate at the moment seems to be about whether it will have zero effect on inflation or actually make inflation worse.

A new assessment from the University of Pennsylvania's Penn Wharton Budget Model found that the Inflation Reduction Act "would very slightly increase inflation until 2024 and decrease inflation thereafter. These point estimates are statistically indistinguishable from zero, thereby indicating low confidence that the legislation will have any impact on inflation." If you want the real numbers, Penn Wharton estimated the bill would increase inflation by 0.05% up until 2024 and then reduce inflation by 0.25% "by the late 2020s." Again, the estimates are "not statistically different than zero."
    https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/the-washington-fantasy-world

Inflation is projected to increase and peek in early 2023... By mid to late 2023, inflation should be gone..

But the current Schumer-Manchin bill will cause inflation to PEAK at the end of 2023 and not flare out til the mid to end of 2024....

There is balance in the force. You call all democrats "scumbags", they say your mother wears combat boots. Would they have "disparaged" your mother if you had not called them scumbags (or whatever they took offense at)?

Seems your morality comes down to rules for me but not for thee...

I think it's important that we take a look back and see exactly how Weigantia® got to the point where scumbags like vick and russ felt it was perfectly appropriate to make gross personal attacks on commenters deceased mothers and commenters wives and children and grandchildren..

I think that only an absolute inveterate poon would actually believe that somebody else on a political forum would seriously give a hang about insulting anyone except the actual board troll themselves; it's hysterical that you seem to think anyone would.

Connecting the dots: Not the strong suit of a poon troll.

Cry more. It pleases Russ and I both to punch your whimpering victim buttons and watch you claim to read our minds and just foam at the mouth ad nauseam fabricating as much bullshit about us on this forum as you have invented about yourself herein. The more you bleat and mewl and moan about your victimhood, the better.

Due to a (likely intentional) slip by a FORMER Weigantian®, vick was able to learn private information about me by hiring commercial web searchers that dug up dirt on people..

Incorrect. Due to a (definitely intentional) ignorant post by the poster "Michale," the moron who claims to be a Jack Reacher-type supercop doxed himself on this very forum with absolutely no help from no one but himself:

    http://www.chrisweigant.com/2008/12/24/mr-claus-goes-to-washington/#comment-4291

The "FORMER Weigantian®" he's referring to was also actually doxed on this very forum by the same moron who doxed "Michale," yes, you guessed it, the poster "Michale."

The self-described Jack Reacher (heh) posted his own name on this forum everybody knew was archived years and years before Russ or I ever posted a single comment, and none of his attempts to fabricate an alternate reality will change that fact no matter how much he prattles on and on continuing to "just insist that down is up, that black is white, and that everyone else in the world is wrong while they have a secret line to the absolute truth (with zero evidence to back it up, of course)." On topic too.

Like I already said and reiterate forever after: You definitely doxed yourself with the help of no one else.

So, armed with the oppo research she paid for and the information I volunteered vick tried to use that information to extort me into silence..

Incorrect. I said if you kept inventing bullshit about me that I would post the facts about you. I set the hook. I was armed with the things you had already posted on this archived forum and with your obvious ignorant rube-like gullibility and constant self-fabrication. Then I set the hook and reeled you in, and you haven't stopped whining like a stuck pig since then. You got played, and it pleases Russ and I greatly to watch the board's resident troll squeal like the pissy little victim who'd been dishing it out for years and finally got it right back at him.

Of course, me being me, I told her to take her oppo-research and shove it up her ass...

Of course, me being me, I pointed and laughed my ass off because the gullible fabricating board troll took the bait and swallowed it whole... hook, line, and sinker.

JL can attest to the validity of the factual nature of that incident as he himself called her on it at the time..

Help me, JL, help me! JL can "attest" to whatever bullshit you want to invent; he wasn't privy to the fact that I was playing you for a fool. Somebody else on this forum was definitely well informed, but it certainly wasn't JL.

vick then became MORE desperate and bragged how she paid Deep Dive searchers to dig up more "dirt" on me.. And tried to use THAT to silence me..

*laughs* I will definitely keep posting the facts. It's hysterical that someone who claims to be a Jack Reacher-type supercop is making up bullshit about "Deep Dive searchers" when public records are readily available to anyone with an Internet connection and a keyboard.

Now, vick was ape-shit crazy with hysteria. She knew she couldn't control my comments as she had so hoped..

I wouldn't say "crazy," but I was definitely laughing hysterically at your ape-like ground pounding knuckle dragging gullible total rube ignorance, and I most assuredly reeled you in.

vick, being desperate, then started in on personal attacks on my wife, my children and my grandchildren..

Nah. Whenever you would whine like a pissy little victim and call me all kinds of colorful female words (like the ones with which Don Harris used to troll CW's forum), I would simply turn your own colorful insults right back at you. If you actually believe your colorful words were turned around on you to insult your family, well then, you are definitely the imbecile on this forum as well as others.

I readily admit that my response (emphasis on RESPONSE) went a tad (OK slightly more than a tad) overboard and the Great Weigantian Flame War began in earnest..

You readily admit you hurled childish names in my general direction, and I readily admit that I laughed my ass off and quoted your foul terms right back at you; the insults were all yours.

All of that changed in November of 2016

Nice bit of revisionist history. Is this the part where you mewl like a whimpering victim and make the asinine claim that everyone here has changed except you?

The late CW really lost it when President Trump wiped the floor with Hillary Clinton.. He became irrational... As many other Weigantians did..

Nah. Michale the Trumpanzee just sucked really hard and then swallowed. Other than him being the consummate Trump cultist, holster, and water carrier, there hasn't been a scintilla of change in anyone else.

As I said, my RESPONSE to vick's personal attacks on my family were vicious and disgusting personal attacks on vick.. Not something I am proud of, but when she started in on my wife and family, something in me snapped..

I just turned your colorful words right back at you, and of course you snapped because: FACTS.

These kinds of personal attacks went on for about a month.. Back and forth, day in and day out.. vick attacking my wife and family constantly and I responding with really disgusting personal attacks against vick..

Your memory really sucks, but yes, you really posted disgusting personal attacks against my pseudonym, and I tossed off your own flailing pathetic attempts right back at you... your own words, certainly not mine.

Finally the late CW stepped in.. Read me the riot act and went on and on against me.. But, since CW was suffering from PTDS, the person who actually started all the problems, well vick got off scot-free... Not a word to her was said to her about anything...

So now you're going to claim to read CW's mind and also claim to actually know what CW has discussed with me. How asinine is that? You have no idea what CW and I have discussed; it would actually curl the hair of anyone who wasn't a fabricating old bald fart who claimed to already know.

It was then I realized that my old friend, CW had died...

Nah. It was you who sucked vigorously, swallowed hard, and constantly whined like an effing victim. Then you'd slink away upset and return with rules you'd promulgated that the entire forum was supposed to follow so as not to offend your tender (snowflake) sensibilities... not at all unlike the fascists who want to ban books, rewrite history, and whitewash their past.

I am sure that, to those who weren't there, it sounds petty and insignificant..

Yes, you definitely sound petty and insignificant, but don't sell yourself short, sunshine, you sound exactly the same way to those who were there.

Those who would think that simply don't understand the dynamic of Weigantia back then.. We were close..

Nice try at revisionist history, but the board is archived, your memory sucks, and neither Russ nor I was around when you were running off posters on this forum that you still brag about pissing off to this day. How sad for right-wing snowflakes that some commenters have joined the forum who see right through your fabricating bullshit and won't allow your monotonous tedium to run them off. Such are the perils of being the board troll who got his fat ass smacked so far up into his pathetically weak shoulders that he still can't stop whining about it after all these years. You got baited and played, and I have someone who can attest to it, and you'd freak the eff out if you knew who it was.

While I certainly accept my responsibility unlike scum like vick and russ who are content to just lay out gross personal attacks on my late mother, my wife, my children et al. I acknowledge my part in the cesspool that is Weigantia® today..

I won't speak for Russ -- scratch that -- Russ and I pity your entire family for having to suffer the bad fortune of possessing your genetic imprinting. If you seriously believe that any of the colorful insults that you hurled in our direction that we tossed back at you were about anybody but yourself, then you'll naturally understand why we'll always have pity for every single human who has the great misfortune to possess your weak-ass DNA.

But it's an undeniable FACT that I have never instigated ANY of this and it has always been defensive measures..

<---- Archived forum... to your left.

What a sad and pathetic low life that person must be...

Russ and I understand that you are still terminally butthurt after all these years, and knowing exactly just how much you enjoy that, we would like to inform you that there is simply no need whatsoever for you to keep thanking us.

In any case, the Weigantia® moderator needs to step in and stop these heinous and disgusting personal attacks on commenter's families...

You mean like the wannabe cop who threatened to file a false police report on another poster's husband who is an actual police officer:

I might have to file a complaint with the PD that Russ's husband works for.. Shouldn't be too difficult to ascertain which Department he works for.. Russ has left plenty of clues..

Yep.. I think a complaint is definitely warranted...

The insurrectionist types like Michale and the white supremacist militia groups will sure give lip service to their "backing the blue" and fly their flags claiming the same... all while chucking their pre-sharpened tips directly at the cops that refuse to allow them to walk all over the law in deference to their idiotic and gullible political beliefs. You cannot be an insurrectionist and support the law; you aren't backing them if you're attacking them.

But it would be nice to see a rule put in place that makes a commenter's family off limits..

    Facts hurt.

So, a rule such as COMMENTER'S FAMILIES AND FRIENDS ARE OFF-LIMITS is obviously needed..

So in your perfectly censored world, if the moderator makes rules to protect the tender sensibilities of the snowflake board trolls who can dish it out in buckets but whine like victims if they get it tossed right back at them, you'll have no one you could actually post about since I have a lot of friends who are politicians from Texas all the way to Washington, DC.

Why don't you just grow a thicker skin and quit your constant mewling, moaning, and whining? If you're going to dish it out to my friends and family, well then, you better buckle up, buttercup. :)

You are dead on accurate that you haven't been paying much attention if you're seriously going to make this utter nonsensical claim. Way to allow yourself to get reeled in by Weigantia's perpetual whiney little victim troll.

Hopefully, your opening comment in this thread will serve as a defining effort to bring this practice to an end.

Canada is on board for unilateral censorship and a safe space wherein the right-wing snowflake troll posts whatever he wishes while others are moderated to protect his tender sensibilities because facts hurt.

Yes, catchy... and definitely well-deserved since Jussie Smollett of Weigantia threatened to file a false police report on Russ's husband who is an actual police officer yet Jussie submits a whining diatribe "soap opera novella" how he is a victim and promulgates rules (again) for everyone else to follow in order to protect his tender sensibilities and moderate comments about friends and family!

How hysterical is that hypocritical BS?

OK, anytime someone spouts off, "But it's an undeniable FACT..." you can bet the house that what follows is NEVER "undeniable" and definitely not a "FACT"!

With Michale, it's definitely a given as that is his TELL for when he is lying.

THAT [1] is the best you have??? Clutch your pearls screaming out, "The HORROR!" as you collapse onto the veranda and then try to guilt/threaten to expose video on CW into believing that YOU are the victim here?

In his comments in [36], Bashi points out your attack on our families:

You consistently call all democrats "cop hating scumbags". My mother is a democrat. Why are you calling my mother a scumbag?

And for the record, I did not insult your mother. I made an outlandish and rhetorical comparison meant to highlight that you are responsible for your own stupidity.

You are the one who has confirmed that your mother did, in fact, drink heavily during her pregnancy with you by saying that I was attacking her. That "OR" in the statement meant it was one or the other. This is why it is best NOT to answer rhetorical questions.

And even now that you have confirmed that you suffer from fecal alcohol syndrome, my comments are still not an attack on your mother -- according to you; they are simply factual statements. It's 88 degrees outside and Michale's mother drank heavily during her pregnancy with him; resulting in his diminished mental state. I'm not making a judgement on her character in any way, shape or form.

Does anyone else picture Michale as Judge Kavanaugh during his confirmation hearings when Kavanaugh was getting WAY TOO emotional over stuff that no one would normally get emotional over? A "your momma" slam is looking a lot like calendar entries about going to "workout with Squee".

    Back on topic.

    Thank you.

I just stumbled across another celebrity addressing an important issue, namely Betty Bowers/America's Best Christian.

I started watching her regularly when you posted her on prior commentaries. As Ms. Bowers says: Why would anyone want to spend eternity in heaven with a psychopathic overlord and a shit-ton of holier-than-thou Christians? [paraphrasing, of course]

But here she, like Jon Stewart, is using her celebrity to ask God to make Ted Cruz stop calling himself a Christian. (8:17)

As a resident of Texas and therefore familiar with the pathetic subject, I must say that Ms. Bowers definitely describes Rafael Cruz perfectly:

Ted Cruz is a foreign-born, Latino immigrant, national healthcare baby who's against Latino immigrants, foreigners, and healthcare.

Ted Cruz is a Princeton/Harvard grad who is against "East Coast Elites."

Ted Cruz is a "Christian" who is against anything Jesus actually said.

NOPE. Every time you specify that ANYONE who believes a certain way is a string of obscenities; YOU ARE MAKING PERSONAL ATTACKS ON THOSE "ANYONES"!

And I did not attack you or your family. I simply pointed out your dishonesty to this group. You told me that your law enforcement experience was limited to being an MP while in the military. Why did you tell me this? To explain why you were not familiar with the laws surrounding how internal investigations are conducted for non-military personnel. The laws protecting civilians is far greater than they are for military personnel who have limited rights.

Being involved in an officer-involved shooting, even one for which you are cleared of any wrong doing, explained why you were unable to find work with a department once you got out.

Things only got bad when you started bragging about how you were the expert in how policing works thanks to your "more than 25 years in law enforcement".

And before you spew that you never made such a claim... let's hop in our WAY-BACK machine for a look at the past:

From the comments on CW's December 20, 2019 article:

From the comments on CW’s June 8, 2016 article:

But, I don't have a '-D' after my name, so that means I have no credibility... Despite over 2 and a half decades in the field....

Russ responds: DESPITE OVER 2 AND A HALF DECADES IN THE FIELD...sure looks like that is what you said to everyone here!

And let me be CRYSTAL CLEAR HERE...

YOU did not simply engage in any name calling personal attacks against my husband. No, no, no... When you got fed up with my pointing out your lies to this board, you chose -- of your own free will -- to threaten to file a false police report against my husband with his department with the expressed intention of harming his career, you gutless little husk!

You have the audacity to come on here and mew at how we've hurt you so much with our words after you threatened to tarnish the good name of a member of law enforcement with more of your lies! Talk about COP HATING!!!

Did any of us ever suggest we would target YOUR family members with REAL WORLD ATTACKS that had REAL WORLD CONSEQUENCES? Didn't think so you pathetic, valor stealing, piece of shit.

Here's the great thing about living in WA state... we have incredible cyber-bullying laws that give the victim's access to SOOOO much information about their bully.

First of all, I showed this speech to almost no one. Not my family, not my friends, not even PJ or Tobin or Squee. This is my speech; there are others like it, but this is mine. I wrote it myself last night while screaming into an empty bag of Doritos.

I am here tonight because of a sham, a political con job orchestrated by the Clintons and George Soros and Kathy Griffin and Mr. Ronin Sinatra. Now I am usually an optimist; I'm a keg is half full kind of guy, but what I've seen from the monsters on this committee makes me want to puke... and not from beer.

Dr. Ford has no evidence. None! Meanwhile, I've got these. I've got these calendars... these beautiful... creepy calendars... about lifting weights with PJ and Squee and Donkey Dong Doug, but you don't care about Squee or Donkey Dong Doug, do you?
