You know, a lot of people have commented that the French are not upset by President Obama's absence.

I think the French have too much class to be publically or visibly upset by this but I have to believe many of the - officials and private citizens - are, at the very least, extremely disappointed that a high level US official, if not the president himself, was not there.

I know that I am not upset that the president did not go, heck I'm not even upset that we only had a diplomat there, not only am I not upset....I really just don't care. No I don't. I sort-of disagreed with ONE of the reasons CW gave: the idea that security good enough for everyone from Angela Merkel to Zoran Milanovi? (Prime Minister of Croatia) isn't good enough for a US president.

But CW is correct that US presidents don't go to rallies, and that diplomatically an ambassador is a completely acceptable stand-in for a head of state, and that exactly zero prominent Republican politicians attended. It's a non-issue, a manufactured pseudo-scandal. That's true even though a few Democrats and a few people on the left have joined the bandwagon. Democrats are awful at being unified and on-message, and the left is even worse.

We went to the bill's official roll call to find them, just to set this dishonorable record straight: Brad Ashford (Nebraska's 2nd district) and Collin Peterson (Minnesota's 7th district). Their constituents should feel free to contact them to let them know what you think of their vote.
