Why not just tell the states that they need to be between April and July and let it go? Where are the Tenthers when you need them?

The only people this current arrangement favors are the kingmakers... and maybe I just answered my own question.

And now for something completely different.

I wrote,
Hensarling is the House counterpart of Toomey: rabidly pro-deficit.

However, in his opening remarks, at 5:54 of this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZ41m8M77S8, he says the words "more revenue". Here's hoping that he's willing to negotiate to close some loopholes. My guess is that he's a proponent of voodoo, and wants to get "more revenue" by setting the marginal rate of the top tax bracket to zero, but here's hoping.

The problem is, the Republican National Committee cannot really literally "lay down the law." They are not in charge of any statehouse, they are a national political party. The politicians in each state are actually in charge of setting their state's schedule, and they are under no legal compulsion to follow the RNC's rules. On the other hand, it's inconceivable (insert Princess Bride reference here) that any state legislature would deny ballot access to the nominee of the Republican Party, in favor of the candidate who would have been the nominee had that state received the full number of delegates. State and national Republicans both have access to the Party's mutual-assured-destruct button.
