Just to warn everyone up front, today's column is essentially nothing more than a "clip show." Television series use this motif whenever they get lazy, because it involves very little writing and filming, because the bulk of the episode is merely clips from previous episodes. Today, I'm offering up my own clip show as a retrospective for how we all got to where we stand today -- on the brink of Donald Trump essentially wrapping up the Republican nomination for the highest office in the land.

During his presidency, every year that Barack Obama's job approval rating has gone up in January, he has followed it up with an increase in February. This year was no different. After impressive gains to start the year off, Obama followed up with smaller (but still substantial) gains in February. As with last month, this is clearly visible on the new chart.

There will be no column today. However, there's a fun reason why I'll be too busy to write: later today I will be appearing in a HuffPost Live conversation, about tonight's upcoming Republican presidential debate. I thought about commenting on just the first one (the "kid's table" debate), but instead of offering up snap reactions this time I'm going to let [...]

No new column today, sorry. I had planned a biography column on Rick Perry, but somehow failed to work up the energy to write it (I'll get it written in the next day or two, promise). Instead, I am going to attempt to work through the backlog of answering your comments from the [...]
