if the DSA position on Israel becomes the official Democratic party position, we'll lose a heck of a lot more than John Fetterman.

Exactly.

having just read the politico article, I think Hakeem Jeffries' "agree to disagree" stance is about the best we can hope for in the near term, with a long-term plan. probably somewhere in the neighborhood of what Rahm Emmanuel suggested.

@Rusty,

if the DSA position on Israel becomes the official Democratic party position, we'll lose a heck of a lot more than John Fetterman. although the Overton window has moved due to Netanyahu and his coalition's excesses post October 7, there's still enough support for Israel overall that the party would not survive such a change intact.

And another dishonorable mention for providing talking points to Breibart and Newsmax goes to the lameduck Governor of Colorado.

'Polis agrees Democrats have fumbled life-saving priorities like universal healthcare but believes the only way to do that is with the "prosperity that a capitalist society creates." Polis says the model the U.S. needs "is capitalism and prosperity not socialism and poverty." '

Democrats in the House of Representatives deserve at least an honorable mention for foregrounding a heated debate in the United States - even among hardcore Republicans.

'The amendment to a State Department spending bill would have eliminated $3.3 billion in funding, and thanks to strong Republican support for the Jewish state, it failed 314-104 . But the vote served as a moment of reckoning for House Democrats who have had to confront years of voter outrage about Israel’s handling of the war in Gaza.'

I'm not old enough to remember it, but there was once a Presidential candidate who had to overcome questions of where his loyalty lie: the United States or the Vatican.

Why is no one questioning Sen. Fetterman about his "patriotism"?
'For the first time this week, the Pennsylvania Democrat laid out a specific condition that would cause him to quit his party as his relationship with fellow Democrats has soured deeply.

“If they put that in our platform — no aid for Israel — and officially become the anti-Israel party, then yeah, that’s a red line for me,” Fetterman told NBC News on Thursday. “Democrats, we’ve always should support Israel. That’s our special ally, you know? In the only democracy in the entire region, that’s Israel. So I’m always proud to stand with Israel.”'

We're back to a CW blind spot: "(although a similar measure failed in the Senate). No mention of the SINGLE Democrat who voted against the measure. Sigh.

'The Senate followed by rejecting an effort to advance its own anti-war resolution, offered by Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), in a 47-49 vote. Just one Republican, Sen. Susan Collins on Maine, backed the effort, while Democratic Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania opposed it.'
