In fact, I think his upcoming presidential campaign is doomed from the very start.

Agreed.

I would welcome just about any other Democrat as the nominee over Rahm, and I know I am not alone in that feeling.

Any other? Oh, okay, you qualified that with "just about." Having said that, I wouldn't vote for him either.

Democrats definitely need to recruit Jon Ossoff for the presidency. I will be surprised if Trump doesn't attempt to preemptively take Ossoff down, as he tried and failed spectacularly with Biden's run for the presidency. Poor Donald seriously needs to get over being the bigly loser of the 2020 election; his pathetic attempts to rewrite recorded history are as transparent as they are laughable.

Depending on how honest Rahm Emanuel is being with himself, this might have been a step taken less towards winning the nomination than setting himself up as a strong candidate for a cabinet position like Secretary of State or even Vice President for whoever does end up winning the nomination, should they then go on to win the presidency. Being seen as the guy who can speak hard truths to Israel and the region as a whole could prove a valuable asset to a more popular and progressive-leaning Democrat. His noted centrism could even be argued as a way to balance the ticket should a progressive Democrat win the nomination.
