Trump has painted himself into a corner in several ways during this entire fiasco, if that doesn't strain the metaphor too badly (how can you paint yourself into more than one corner?).

Compounding lies... sort of like compounding interest (where earnings also generate additional earnings) except lies beget lies and inevitably snowballs into a bullshit mountain.

And unlike other crises which cause widespread economic pain, this one has a clear and easy-to-understand cause: Trump's decision to go to war with Iran, and Trump's refusal to find any sort of quick end to it all. This one's all on Trump, period.

Trump's illegal unilateral decision to go to war with Iran because the United States Constitution explicitly grants Congress, not the President, the power to declare war. Compounding lies that we're not at war is additional snowballing bullshit which is also compounded with Trump's unilateral global trade war wherein the Supreme Court ruled his IEEPA tariffs unconstitutional and illegal, which is further compounded by Trump's unilateral 10% global tariffs imposed thereafter.
