also RIP: the penny

how is anyone going to add "just my two cents" any more? (Sigh)

If you will permit me to "drop a dime": The United States Constitution grants Congress the power to coin money and regulate its value, and therefore it is only Congress via legislation than can actually kill the penny.

Just my two cents. :)

I hope you're right about birthright citizenship, but I think they're going to go the other way.

Help... the text of the 14th Amendment is unambiguous and transparently clear, so what other way is there? Different classes of those born in the United States based on where their parents were born and not based at all on where they are born?

something to the effect of "it's the president prerogative to decide during his term how to interpret that clause of the Constitution"

If the SCOTUS actually does that, it could be fun watching a Democratic president in the future deciding to interpret that retroactively and decree that Rafael Edward "Ted" Cruz and Marco Antonio Rubio are not (and never have been) United States citizens and then do some more personal interpretation of the Constitution of the United States... beginning (obviously) with the Second Amendment.

another brief comment on the epstein scandal; Moira Donegan at the Guardian has I think encapsulated the essential element that makes it so compelling:

At its core, the Epstein saga is a metaphor for the corruption of the American elite: their amorality, their immunity from consequence, their densely incestuous relationships of mutual protection. A decade ago, Trump swept into power by wielding anger at that elite to his own advantage. But the Epstein story has revealed to everyone that he was part of that rotten core all along.

okay, just pointing out that my nomination for "most under-reported" remains under-reported, even here. for all of donald's stupid peace prize seeking, Armenia is somewhere he was actually successful. and yet, to quote Adolf Hitler, Wer redet heute noch von der Vernichtung der Armenier?

@cw,
I hope you're right about birthright citizenship, but I think they're going to go the other way. something to the effect of "it's the president prerogative to decide during his term how to interpret that clause of the Constitution"

I keep thinking of more predictions I should have made...

at some point, the Education Dept (what is left of it) will mandate large photos of Trump be displayed in every classroom in the country. Seems like an obvious next move for the North-Korea-ization of the US...

the Supreme Court will strike down Trump's tariffs, but say that it is ok for the US not to have to give all the money collected so far back.

SCOTUS will also strike down Trump's arguments on birthright citizenship, and restore the 14th Amendment...

oh well, hindsight... these columns are always a marathon, I'm bound to forget to include stuff... sorry....
