Re: #1, that the Democratic candidates for president should pledge a complete demolition of whatever the hell this 'ballroom' turns out to be, and a complete restoration of the historic East Wing as it was before this week's destruction.

Yes! Expensive? So what! Seems like a waste? Wait, a waste of what? Congress didn't appropriate money for the 'ballroom' or the demolition of the White House east wing - Rich people's money would be wasted, which is OK with me.

And just f**k Trump in every way. Demolition of his precious ballroom, after what, one year of existence, would be precious justice and an affirmation of democracy, taste, and historic righteousness.

Will they dare to do it? Will Democratic candidates pledge to spend multi-millions to restore destruction, and reverse historic crimes? I very much hope so.

Like Chris, I'm not inclined to look favorably on, or vote for, Democratic candidates who can't condemn this criminal vandalism of the nation's heritage in forthright and absolute terms. This so-called 'ballroom', if it gets built in the next two years, has to be razed to the ground in the following two years, dead stop, if God willing a Democrat wins the White House in 2028.

You’re spot on. These morons have been coached to hate Dems for decades. For example there’s the farmers who voted for Trump 2.0 after Trump 1.0 beat them up pretty badly. Genius!

Massive pain is required!

I’ve long wondered if the big money Democrats deliberately fail to campaign effectively because these bastards are just as greedy as their Republican counterparts and like them tax cuts.

So, if (or more likely when) Trump orders the military to shoot somebody in the middle of 5th Avenue that he ALSO won’t lose any support? Does this 5th Avenue have to be in New York City? Because there are thousands of 5th Avenues in America to choose from. Fortunately, not in my little town.

when he said he could shoot someone in the middle of fifth avenue and not lose support, at least based on current events that may have been an understatement.

THIS is what will make a poor Trump voter pay attention to the Democrats' message:
'nearly 42 million people around the country could face the same fate if the federal government shutdown continues and funding for Snap is cut off on 1 November.

While Republicans have sought to blame Democrats for the potential loss in benefits that people who make little money rely on, those who work in the food-insecurity space say that is misleading because Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act already eliminated almost $187bn in funding for Snap through 2024, according to a congressional budget office estimate.'

'... a clear opening for Democrats out in rural America, if they are smart enough to take it.'

I grew up in rural N Florida and I sadly accept that 'rural America' will NOT currently vote for a Democrat unless and until their pocketbook is afire. Trump 1.0 did NOT benefit most 'red' states and yet they voted for him and his GOP minions for Congress in 2024.

The Democrats must act like EVERY elected office requires time and resources. The Democratic Party cannot hope to recapture rural voters so long as it throws money at only the Presidential race and those races on the coasts. And they must recruit candidates who can speak with sincerity about how the Democratic Party will benefit their local electorate.
