As the key question in the McCarthy hearings asked, America now seems to have lost its sense of decency. Nothing is seen as too juvenile or too provocative or too inciteful any more in our political discourse.

Interesting and fitting to compare the events of today to the McCarthy era since they both have the hallmarks of the infamous unethical Roy Cohn written all over them. History has not been kind to Trump's mentor, Cohn, and I suspect Trump will receive the same place in history despite his endless attempts at rewriting it.

John keeping your opinions to yourself will achieve the same end result as if you spoke out: these clowns are in a cult and one does NOT question things in a cult. Waste of time even trying IMO.

Gah. This is so depressing - "dark road", "political violence", "should I be afraid", "a swinging pendulum of alternating ideologues rather than honest and dedicated civil servants", etc.

I wish I could do better than you in predicting the future of political America, but I'm completely at sea. In my everyday life, things continue mostly normal. At worst, one avoids political discussions with co-workers or casual acquaintances until one is sure of where they stand: pro-Trump or anti-Trump. But not everything is explicitly political, yet, in my daily world. Perhaps that's because I live in, and am comfortable in, the pretty liberal state of Connecticut. MAGA is not a huge force here, and yet .. and yet ..

Several of my fellow employees at my job, and several of the volunteers at my various off-work ventures, are clearly Trumpy, to a greater or lesser degree. I censor my comments when they are present -- I don't say what I think -- because I want to preserve a kind of civil discourse among friendly people.

Is that right? DON'T call out ones Trumpy acquaintances and colleagues, in order to preserve the peace? I just don't know.

when Donald says he wants to make America "great" again, he means great for people like Jeffrey Epstein, and I'm not sure most people under fifty are aware of what that sorry of greatness entailed.
