In the UK, there are so many war memorials in so many places that this is perhaps diluted as far as military graves go. But let a politician show up at the tomb of the unknown soldier for the official Remembrance Day wreath laying in anything other than a black overcoat, and the press (especially the right wing press if it's the leader of the Labour Party) is shocked and horrified by a public scandal.

It may be partly that making an issue of Trump's action, combined with clips and mentions of other occasions of disrespect, will resonate with right-leaning Americans with military connections and those for whom graveyards, especially military graveyards, are sacred ground.
