So Hogan came out this week and proclaimed he is now pro-choice and will stand strong for abortion rights -- even though he vetoed an abortion-rights bill when he served as governor.

How convenient. (¬_¬)

If one believes in the freedoms guaranteed in the constitution of the United States, as I still do, then one can believe there will come a day when the abortion debate will end with the resolution that the decision to abort a pregnancy will be decided by a woman and her doctor.

Russ,

Yeah, it's hard to glean anything from poll questions like this.

But, I'm guessing Trump doesn't care one way or the other about abortion rights except in how the issue can help his campaign, as with any other issue. And, he's doing a pretty good job of making the issue a 'winning' one from his point of view.

It's a very complicated issue in that unless you know how a person being polled on this question thinks about sex and sexual well-being, in the overall, you can't know why they feel the way they do about abortion or reproductive rights, let alone who they hold responsible for overturning Roe v. Wade. I wish the discussion - and poll questions - would take this turn toward a more expansive view of all that a woman's reproductive rights entail!

Fully 17 percent of the respondents answered "Biden" rather than "Donald Trump" when asked who was more responsible for the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

Since Trump wants the credit for Roe being overturned, wouldn't this be seen as a loss by Trump? If Republicans are against abortion, then Biden getting the credit for overturning Roe would be seen by these people as Biden doing something positive. Unless you know how the person being polled views abortion, it is impossible to know how they view the person they believe is responsible for overturning Roe v. Wade.

While only 28 Republicans joined with Steube, 189 Democrats also signed his petition, which reached the magical number of 218.

The NY Times article doesn't tell much. Here's the link to the list of who signed the discharge petition:
https://clerk.house.gov/DischargePetition/2024043011?Page=2&CongressNum=118

Well, you can't blame the bad guys for winning. That's what they're supposed to be trying to do. You can blame the good guys for failing. If there had been a real threat of court-packing, SCOTUS wouldn't have been so activist.

Well, I like to think that I'm pretty un-shockable, but that poll did shock me... (sigh)

@speak,

beyond that, donald trump is an absolute master of muddying the facts. he'll tell you with a straight face and not a shred of evidence that the thing he just did on camera is actually what his opponent did. and people (not just his supporters) believe him.

Unfortunately, your first point is not surprising. More than a third of GOP voters blamed Obama for the Katrina debacle back during the 2012 campaign.
