Well, you're welcome. I produced those pages and pages of risk factors to some MAGA friends of mine who actually responded: "You mean all of that isn't fake news?" I laugh every time I think about it.

And please don’t hurt me ;D

Typewritten words are harmless... unless you're my MAGA friends who just found out the laundry list of Trump failures they thought were invented by the press. :)

BTW I (and other Weigantians I suspect) appreciate the deep dive comment that you post. This stuff doesn’t happen by itself and takes real effort.

Keep up the good work! And please don’t hurt me ;D

'suppose I should have referenced that little chuckle. :)

(I hope that in 2028 the first question doesn't have to be 'Can s/he beat Trump?')

I'm still laughing. Good one, Mezzomamma!

Let's look at the Porter situation another way: California Democrats have more than one person who could do a good job as a US senator. Compare any of the top 3, say, to some of the people currently in the Senate.

I also think there are a fair number of Dems around who could make a decent president and might do as of 2029. (I hope that in 2028 the first question doesn't have to be 'Can s/he beat Trump?')

Italyrusty

So Katie Porter should not have run for the Senate unless she had found a candidate to fill her House of Representatives seat for the Democrats that was guaranteed to win? Was she responsible for making sure that her replacement had enough money to run a successful campaign as well? Porter doesn't have to justify her reasons for wanting to run for the Senate to anyone! You aren't owed anything.

Becoming a U.S. Senator would certainly have been a step up; I know of few people who wouldn't be tempted to have a promotion.

But just because it would benefit Rep. Porter professionally doesn't mean her decision doesn't disappoint those of us who think strategically. I'd be interested to hear her justification, beyond just 'I wanted to serve ALL Californians' or some such blather. Does she have someone waiting in the wings who can WIN the district?
I haven't read anything about the primary results there; perhaps no Republican is going to be on the ballot in the general election, so we have nothing to worry about.

I get the warm fuzzies thinking about all the money lost on DJT stock that won't be donated to the big man's campaign or legal bills piggy bank. Maybe the losers will even get to the point that they're too disgusted to vote for him.

To make up for it, Trump's daughter-in-law Lara (now helping run the Republican National Committee) told people who were too poor to donate $5 to Trump to "save up" so they could donate later. Because grifters gotta grift, right?

Right... and remember last Friday how you discussed Trump hawking the Bible and asked, "What will be next?" and I responded:

Now that Donald's Big Lie helped bankrupt the "MyPillow" moron, Trump should sell those lousy pillows so all the other rubes who got suckered by him will have something to cry into when they finally come to grips with the fact their "icon" is a grifting con.

~ Kick, March 29, 2024

And a few days later...

It also wasn't a particularly great week for Trump on the stock market either, as his pet media company took a nosedive when they 'fessed up to the fact that they had only made $4 million last year, while losing a whopping $58 million at the same time. The stock lost 20 percent of its value in one day, which translated to Trump losing a cool billion dollars.

You'd think the rank-and-file MAGA morons investing in Trump might have taken a look at the myriad prior instances of fraud committed by Don the Con and the multiple bankruptcies already associated with him before they bought into this "meme stock" that is seriously practically worthless and moving in the wrong direction, but then again, their gullibility and turning a blind eye to history is cringeworthy.

It's easy to see lawsuits from investors coming in the future beyond the ones already filed between the two previous (losing) Apprentice contestants suing Trump and Trump suing them, but it's unlikely to matter too much since there are 80+ pages (not a typo) of risk factors included in the filing with the SEC by Trump Media and Digital World Acquisition Corp. (the company with which Trump Media merged in order to go public). The pages regarding risk span across pages 63-146.

A number of companies that were associated with President Trump have filed for bankruptcy. There can be no assurances that TMTG will not also become bankrupt.

Entities associated with President Trump have filed for bankruptcy protection. The Trump Taj Mahal, which was built and owned by President Trump, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 1991. The Trump Plaza, the Trump Castle, and the Plaza Hotel, all owned by President Trump at the time, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 1992. THCR, which was founded by President Trump in 1995, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2004. Trump Entertainment Resorts, Inc., the new name given to Trump Hotels & Casino Resorts after its 2004 bankruptcy, declared bankruptcy in 2009. While all of the foregoing were in different businesses than TMTG, there can be no guarantee that TMTG’s performance will exceed the performance of those entities.

A number of companies that had license agreements with President Trump have failed. There can be no assurances that TMTG will not also fail.

Trump Shuttle, Inc., launched by President Trump in 1989, defaulted on its loans in 1990 and ceased to exist by 1992. Trump University, founded by President Trump in 2005, ceased operations in 2011 amid lawsuits and investigations regarding that company’s business practices. Trump Vodka, a brand of vodka produced by Drinks Americas under license from The Trump Organization, was introduced in 2005 and discontinued in 2011. Trump Mortgage, LLC, a financial services company founded by President Trump in 2006, ceased operations in 2007. GoTrump.com, a travel site founded by President Trump in 2006, ceased operations in 2007. Trump Steaks, a brand of steak and other meats founded by President Trump in 2007, discontinued sales two months after its launch. While all these businesses were in different industries than TMTG, there can be no guarantee that TMTG’s performance will exceed the performance of these entities.

pp. 132-133

*
Trump Hotels and Casino Resorts (THCR) also went public and used the same "DJT" ticker symbol until bankruptcy in 2004 and delisting from the New York Stock Exchange.

It turns out this SEC "full disclosure" filing is useful for proving the facts to the disbelieving and gullible rubes regarding the myriad failures of Trump.

Dunno, italyrusty

Are you saying that Porter (my own personal choice BTW) shouldn’t have TRIED for the Senate because win-or-lose it gave the Repugs a shot at the seat that she vacated? I can’t blame her especially seeing how infrequently California has had the opportunity to elect a new Senator. She’s clearly qualified.

Having said that, Porter’s post-Primary grousing about politician Schiff doing political things to give himself that edge DOES qualify her for a MDDOTW this week.

Soon-to-be-former Rep. Katie Porter deserved at least a dishonorable mention for MDDOW as soon as she announced her candidacy for the late Sen. Feinstein's seat.
I only learned this week of a CA law that prohibits a person for running concurrently for two offices. Which means that when Rep. Porter pursued the U.S. Senate seat, she had to forego pursuing re-election in her swing district.
As election after election makes perfectly clear, U.S. voters like incumbents. Rep. Porter's actions means it is entirely possible that this seat will hand the House to the Republicans in 2025.
