You want to talk about Ukraine?

I can understand your frustration. It seems all concerned are all in for another long war with no end in sight. As far as I can tell, NO ONE is benefiting, least of all Ukraine. And, I don't see how this ends well for the people of Ukraine.

None of it makes any sense to me. I still think it might have been avoided but understand that we will never know.

You know, a very fine Canadian singer/songwriter - Myles Goodwyn from April Wine penned a song for Ukraine ... For Ukraine

Naw, I’m NOT okay. I’m so fucking sick of political correctness hand wringing panty soiling virtue signally that I could just scream. Fuck the lot of you pretenders (not you, Elizabeth, you aren’t in that category even if you ARE completely full of shit about Ukraine — I won’t try to reach you on this because you have REFUSED to engage with anything I’ve written.)

9 Democrats - including one from CA - in the U.S. House of Representatives deserve a MDDOW award.
'The House on Thursday voted to overturn the Biden administration’s protections for thousands of small streams, wetlands and other waterways, advancing long-held Republican arguments that the regulations are an environmental overreach and burden to business.

The vote was 227-198 to overturn the rule.
...
Nine Democrats voted to overturn the water rule: Reps. Sanford Bishop and David Scott of Georgia; Jim Costa and Jimmy Panetta of California; Angie Craig of Minnesota; Henry Cuellar and Vicente Gonzalez of Texas; Donald Davis of North Carolina; and Jared Golden of Maine.'

Maryland Democrats deserve at least a MIDOW honorable mention:
'The Maryland House voted Friday to enshrine the right to abortion in the state Constitution, one of several steps lawmakers are taking this legislative session to protect abortion rights after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade last year.

The House voted 99-37 for the constitutional amendment, which also is advancing in the state Senate. If the measure passes the General Assembly, voters would have a chance to approve it in November 2024.'

Re: "California Governor Gavin Newsom is taking the fight to Walgreens", I for one don't think this makes him 'impressive'.
First and foremost, what will be the impact to the people who are currently aided by the state's contract with Walgreen's (you say 'prisoners')? Secondly, what impact will it have on the costs to the CA taxpayers. Instead of rushing to announce this decision, the governor should have *proposed* this to the CA legislature. During the legislative process, perhaps Walgreen's would have backed down. At a minimum, the representatives elected by the CA voters to fund state programs should make this decision.

Secondly, the worst way to address the politicization of health care by ... politicizing health care. Two wrongs, anyone?

Thirdly, imagine that Louisiana's or Kentucky's governors - both Democrats - announced that they are cancelling a contract with Walgreen's unless it SUSPENDS abortion pill distribution in their states. Wouldn't you be outraged at a governor exerting undue political influence on a private corporation?

Nice use of the president's speech as your Talking Points this week!

I do wonder if Biden is still in same state of denial that so many in the national establishment - the media, political leaders, influence groups - have been in for some time now. That is, they still seem to argue or debate about US politics as if proof of hypocrisy leads to shame, and shame leads to a change in behavior and/or rhetoric. Here, it's the idea that if Republicans cannot come up with a budget to compare to the president's, they will lose credibility and electoral power.

Why do I have a hard time imagining the Republicans agreeing to these terms of competition, after watching them change the subject, change the terms, and change the tone of the competition whenever they want to?

Biden, in your excerpts from his speech, talks in terms of a 'fair fight' on the floor of Congress if the GOP comes up with a budget - or of winning the American electorate's confidence and votes if the GOP fails to produce a credible budget. But 'fair fight' is not how the Republican party works any more. I think it's unpredictable how this budget battle may play out, and I hope the president has that big fat platinum coin sitting in a strong box somewhere over at Treasury, even now.

If not, he should get moving on that weird solution, instead of waiting for the last minute to find that his "Republican friends" will have no more compunction about overthrowing the American economy than they had two years ago about overthrowing the American government and constituion.
