I keep thinking of that lone officer on the highway with his gun held and pleading with the potential assailant with a knife, saying that he didn't want to shoot him over and over again, all the while trying his level best to de-escalate the situation until back-up arrived. Which he did, quite successfully!

Now THAT is the kind of police work I wish you guys would highlight and support, at least as much as the extreme examples that always put LEOs in a bad light. That would certainly be a far better used of time and energy here.
