Yea verily on visiting your friendly, local Patriotic Mattress Dealer. Shopping is the National Pastime (not baseball and not even tax avoidance) so have at it! And don't settle for less than a California King.

I'm eternally grateful to old those Roman (or whoever) calendar fiddlers for robbing several days out of February, my least favorite month. I think we should take out at least another 10 days and put 'em in June or July!!

Weird commonality between George Washington and Jesus, that both have their birthdays celebrated on days other than the ones on which they were born.

This fun historical/astronomical/religious fact also explains why the Russian Revolution of 1917 was reported in the West on November 6-7, but took place in St. Petersburg and Moscow on October 24-25. The Eastern Orthodox Church was the last holdout against the despised Western Church's Gregorian reform. Lenin pushed the change through just a few months later, in early 1918; I didn't know the Greeks held out til the early 20s, as you report.

It's always been interesting to me that Lincoln was soon elevated to near-Washingtonian status as the holy parfait president - the savior of the nation side by side with the founder of the nation - and then the coincidence of their birthdays in February eventually led to this joint holiday. If Lincoln had been born at some other time of the year, would we have an extra federal holiday? Or did Lincoln's birthday just get a free ride due to Washington's already being celebrated a week or so later?

Can't wait to start talking about the Biden administration!
