The thing about "second place" is that it actually did used to be a "thing" in America where the guy who came in second place became the Vice President. Thomas Jefferson wasn't thrilled about having Aaron Burr as his Vice President and set reforms in motion during his presidency to remedy that whole "second place" scenario. :)

Let's take the example of the thing that Trump loves to tout - his China travel ban. This is a classic example of the unintended negative consequences completely overshadowing what was intended, for two reasons. Firstly, Trump's China travel ban was porous as hell. And, there was no strategy or implementation of a testing and quarantine regiment for the people who were getting into the US from China. This rates at least a 10 on the incompetence scale. Secondly and, perhaps, more importantly, the travel restrictions imposed by the Trump administration on China and Europe gave the president and, therefore, many in the country a completely false sense of security and the misguided idea that nothing else needed to be done. My argument is that Trump has done very little to control a very controllable virus and you say that this assertion assumes facts not in evidence.

Let's take the example of the thing that Trump loves to tout - his China travel ban. This is a classic example of the unintended negative consequences completely overshadowing what was intended, for two reasons.

Firstly, Trump's China travel ban was porous as hell. And, there was no strategy or implementation of a testing and quarantine regiment for the people who were getting into the US from China. This rates at least a 10 on the incompetence scale.
