If Zelensky produces what Trump is asking for, then that would put his country in the U.S.’s crosshairs to be hit with massive sanctions. Why, in the world would he actually follow through with what Trump is requesting from him?

Right... basic stuff, and worse than that, Russ, the Moron POTUS has now handed President Zelensky the same type of kompromat that Putin already has on him. Who's to say that President Zelensky wouldn't use what he knows about Trump and the PT Barnum circus in the White House in order to compromise the national security of the United States?

Bottom line: HE WOULDN’T! Trump is just too stupid and desperate to realize it.

And PT and his Barnum Circus have collectively withheld military aid from Ukraine and compromised national security in order to advance the personal interests of President Dumbfuckery rather than the national interests of We the People. Those are our tax dollars they're using to further Trump's personal interests, and not coincidently, withholding the military aid from Ukraine happens to further the interests of Putin.

Based on what I'm seeing, it appears to me that Trump has this candy ass fantasy that he is going to win a Nobel Peace Prize by getting Russia and Ukraine to "kiss and make up" and then "restore peace to the galaxy" and release sanctions on Russia... or something similar. Whatever the case, Benedict Donald is being played by Putin to further the interests of Russia by withholding aid to Ukraine to further his own interests and those of Manafort (in jail) and Stone (in trial).

Trump is trying to clear Russia for interfering with our elections in 2016 and remove the asterisk that history books will always assign to his being elected!

Well... Appendix D. These are not altogether separate issues. Trump has released the summary of a phone call to the entire world wherein he's still obviously concerned about the Mueller Report and all that it entails, has he not? It's all there on a silver platter and gift wrapped by Trump: They're still trying to "Bill Barr" the entire Mueller Report and free Manafort and keep Stone out of jail, and nobody needs to be reelected more than Trump so he's trying to take down Biden at the same time he covers his own ass... or something similar. :)

There are many reasons the whistle-blower complaint is deeply damaging to the Trump White House, but one of the biggest is the sheer number of officials who were involved. According to the report, multiple officials in the White House, including national-security staffers and lawyers, were aware of both the pressure campaign against Ukraine and the efforts to cover it up. So were State Department staffers. That offers a wide range of potential witnesses for Democrats to call as they embark on an impeachment inquiry—and guarantees a long and messy investigation in the report’s wake.

From this post at Balloon-Juice: https://www.balloon-juice.com/2019/09/26/politico-confirms-and-validates-the-whistleblowers-allegation-that-white-house-staff-are-misclassifying-records-of-the-presidents-communications-with-foreign-leaders/

So Blotus has been "saving" his call info. on the super-private server since 2017 which creates a host of security and national security problems.

As I delineated this morning, misclassifying this information by upclassifying it so it can be “locked down” prevents those who need to know this information from actually being able to access it and know it. Doing this to protect the President from himself, creates a serious insider threat and counterintelligence problem for the United States because it makes it almost impossible for senior national security and intelligence personnel to know what they need to know to both accurately and effectively carry out US national security and foreign policy, as well as to protect US interests because they do not know what the President is saying to, hearing from, agreeing with, and/or agreeing to do in his conversations with foreign leaders. The fact that the people that the President has hired into senior political appointments at the White House are unable to control themselves enough to not settle scores between themselves by viciously leaking about each other and the President to the press is not an excuse to mishandle and misclassify US government information. It is a good reason to hire better and more professional people.

And since the White House Counsel’s Office allegedly approved doing this, Don McGahn, Pat Cipollone, and their staff need to be brought before the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence to explain what it was and is they’re doing regarding classification of information. Their clearances should also be stripped and their access to classified information stopped immediately.

EDIT

Oh, Coats had to have known. It seems to me like there's no way this whole shitshow lands on the ADNI's desk the next day after Coats leaves with his #2 by mere coincidence.

Fixed it. :)

WELL???? The winner is.... Don’t leave me hangin’, girl!

Who you calling "girl"? ;) *wink*

I thought it might be former Deputy DNI Sue Gordon who resigned after out-going DNI Coats stuck his head in a meeting she was conducting and announced in front of everyone that she needed to resign immediately! Gordon reportedly finished her meeting, went to her office and typed up her resignation letter, took her belongings and quit.

Makes sense.

Coats might not have known that this shitstorm was about to happen, but the timing of their departures sure is curious!

What I said was that we did not know what the Whistle Blower’s complaint included, so to assume the call was the only thing it covered - if it covered it at all - was foolish.

Obviously, Russ, you are correct, but he's being spoon-fed by the right wingnuts and regurgitating the conspiracy bullshit here. The wingnuts and their useful idiots are pushing the idiotic narrative that it was one call and "nothing to see here." "One and Done"

They were trying to "Bill Barr" the whole thing.

FUN FACT: This conspiracy bullshit that the Idiot President is foisting on Zelensky in his "not a transcript but a summary" of an approximately 30-minute phone call" happens to mirror quite closely the defense of Roger Stone in his upcoming trial. Stone's defense is pure nutjob insanity and not surprisingly sounds like the stuff Donald is insisting that Zelensky cough up for him in a definite QPQ for hundreds of millions of dollars in military aid.

Appendix D: Just a friendly reminder that Robert Mueller spun off a whole lot of cases that are continuing to be prosecuted "robustly" by the F... B... I.

Russ, you lost all yer credibility when you claimed that the Whistle Blower call and the actual Trump/Zelensky were different calls..

What I said was that we did not know what the Whistle Blower’s complaint included, so to assume the call was the only thing it covered - if it covered it at all - was foolish. When I said it, you did not know what the complaint was, but you wanted to dismiss it based only on that phone call. Good try, but once again, you failed miserably! And by the way:

Capt. Whorely, you lost all of YOUR credibility when you claimed to everyone here that you had worked as a commissioned law enforcement officer in the past when you never had!

To make matters worse, when I noted that I found it strange that you had never told us any wild stories from actual calls that you had been on, you insinuated that you had done so prior to my discovering CW’s website. Basically admitting that you had lied to everyone on the board at that time if what you were saying was true; and lying to everyone now if it wasn’t true.

So please, continue sharing with the group why MY credibility should be questioned!?!

I think you may have missed the point.

Could be.

The point that CW was making by mentioning Jackson? Or the point that Jackson allegedly had?

I say Jackson didn't have a point. So yeah, if he did, I missed it.

CW seems to have mostly just wanted to use a fitting historical quote, but also to remind us that presidential history isn't all full of lofty admirable statesmen speaking with great decorum.

I now have enough facts to make an educated guess as to the identity of the Whistleblower.

Also, it appears to me that the Ukraine coverup is Trump's attempt to find a cover to pardon Paul Manafort. Poor Donald. By the time he could spin that conspiracy shit into a valid "get out of jail free card" for Paulie, he'd remain in jail regardless because: New York, New York!

AAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnd if I can make it there
I'm gonna make it anywhere
Come on come through
New York, Neeeeeeeeeeeew York! :)

I cannot fathom why the Republicans would continue to scream about the FBI not taking the physical servers from the DNC into custody when they conducted the investigation into the hacking of said servers.

To further a conspiracy... because "conspiracy" bullshit is the lifeblood of the right-wingnut world.

The physical equipment is not what was “hacked”, it was the software portion that was hacked.

You'll just confuse them with facts.

The FBI’s cybersecurity team needed to only make a copy image of the server to have everything they needed to conduct their investigation.

Which is exactly what they do, but you'll just confuse them with facts. :)

Maybe this will help: If you notice some unknown party has been making purchases with your credit card and call to report that your ID was stolen, the police do not show up at your house and take your wallet from you as “evidence” in their investigation. Why? Because they do not need your physical credit card to conduct an investigation of online purchases that you did not make!

Exactly! But you'll just confuse them with facts.

Now they want to say the actual servers were moved to the Ukraine? This makes sense - maybe - if the DNC upgraded their servers and the old ones were sent to the Ukraine to be refurbished, but that is not likely.

It only makes "sense" in the context of the fact that it was conspiracy bullshit invented by the QAnon conspiracy nutjobs and their ilk to further their right-wingnut fantastical nonsensical BS.

It also would not matter where the physical servers are now located... they hold no information that was not already available to the FBI when they first conducted their investigation!!!

You'll just confuse them with facts.

Republicans count on their base’s lack of knowledge to cause them to accept the GOP’s lies.

Ding, ding, ding... WE HAVE A WINNER HERE!

“I would like you to find out what happened with this whole situation with Ukraine, they say Crowdstrike ... I guess you have one of your wealthy people... “

If you remember Bill Barr’s summary of the Mueller Report — that he later told us was not meant as a summary of the conclusions and findings — anytime you see an ellipsis used in a transcript, that means what was said following the ellipsis has been left out.

I realize that with Trump it would be easy to think that he just stopped his sentence at this point, paused, and then said the next sentence without bothering to finish his original thought. Since this is his typical speaking style, that is why it is so imperative that proper punctuation be used when transcribing his babbling conversations!

And if you remember how Barr used ellipsis in the past, you’ll recall that it meant he was leaving out especially damning statements against Trump. That the ellipsis were used right when Trump starts discussing the DNC server and who he believes might be involved is very telling. Cannot wait to see the full transcript!

Has ya'all's opinion changed as to President Trump's re-election being all but a sure thing??

Marginally. I have thought all along that Biden is a weak general election candidate, and Elizabeth Warren less so. Now that she's doing better than I expected, that makes me less pessimistic.

But I'm always pessimistic about politics. Politics is a rotten way to make decisions. In politics, all of us together are stupider than any of us.

But hay.. Balthy, before you go..

Let's look at a PRACTICAL issue..

Let's say that Democrats actually DO follow thru this whole impeachment thing without totally decimating their Party..

And let's further stipulate that Democrats in the House can actually vote to Impeach President Trump..

Can you visualize how the Senate Trial will go down with the GOP in control and they have the capability of calling ANY Democrat to testify and can ask ANY question they want and Democrats HAVE to answer under oath???

Do you REALIZE how utterly DECIMATING that's going to be for Democrats..

Hell, even if you IGNORE the fact that there is not a chance in hell that the GOP will convict President Trump...

Not a chance in hell of success.. And Democrats all up and down the food chain are dragged in to testify under oath...

You just HAVE to wonder if it's all worth it??

I cannot fathom why the Republicans would continue to scream about the FBI not taking the physical servers from the DNC into custody when they conducted the investigation into the hacking of said servers. The physical equipment is not what was “hacked”, it was the software portion that was hacked. The FBI’s cybersecurity team needed to only make a copy image of the server to have everything they needed to conduct their investigation.

Now they want to say the actual servers were moved to the Ukraine? This makes sense - maybe - if the DNC upgraded their servers and the old ones were sent to the Ukraine to be refurbished, but that is not likely. It also would not matter where the physical servers are now located... they hold no information that was not already available to the FBI when they first conducted their investigation!!!
Immediately after Zelensky mentions U.S. defense aid, Trump directly asks Zelensky for a "favor," indicating such aid may be dependent upon Zelensky’s compliance.

And says the word, 'though', indicating a direct link between the two subjects. Caught.

Spin it the way that you want, the president was holding up military aid, and pressuring Zelensky in return for dirt on Democrats.

Now that sounds fine to you, I realize, but many Democrats took offense. That's why this is far from over.

While the transcript shows Trump pressing Ukraine to “look into” the Bidens, it does not show the U.S. president explicitly linking that request to U.S. aid — which had been frozen days earlier, a detail that fueled impeachment calls earlier this week and helped prompt House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to announce a formal impeachment inquiry Tuesday.

Hours after the transcript was released, Trump met with Zelensky on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York City. Reporters asked Zelensky about the call with Trump, and whether he felt pressured by the U.S. president, as alleged by the whistleblower—an accusation he denied.

“I think you read everything. I’m sorry but I don’t want to be involved in democratic elections of the USA,” he said. “We had a good phone call. It was normal, we spoke about many things.”

He added: “I think you read it that nobody pushed me.”

Republicans have also raised concerns about the whistleblower's possible "political bias," as the intelligence community inspector general found indications the whistleblower was "in favor of a rival political candidate" of Trump.

No matter WHERE you turn, there are ZERO facts that support Dumbocrat claims..

Meanwhile, Republicans on the committee, including Ranking Member Devin Nunes, R-Calif., accused Democrats of orchestrating a public spectacle.

"I want to congratulate the Democrats on the rollout of their latest information warfare operation against the president, and their extraordinary ability once again to enlist the mainstream media in their campaign," Nunes said, adding that “we’ve been treated to an unending parade of press releases, press conferences, and fake news stories.”

"The released transcript of the call has already debunked that central assertion, but that didn't matter," he continued. "The Democrats simply moved the goalposts and began claiming that there doesn't need to be a quid pro quo for this conversation to serve as the basis for impeaching the president."

The White House, on Wednesday, released an unclassified version of the transcript of that controversial phone call. The memo, which does not reflect a “verbatim transcript” but is based on “notes and recollections” of those memorializing the call, shows Trump congratulating Zelensky on his election victory before Trump eventually gets to the subject of the Bidens, seeking an investigation of some kind.

Maguire says that the whistleblower complaint released Thursday "is in alignment with what was released yesterday by the president."

So much for Russ's TOTALLY BULLSHIT claim that the phone call President Trump released was NOT the same phone call that was in the Whistle Blower complaint..

I called total bullshit on Russ' claim and was proved to be 1000% accurate... :D

At one point in the hearing, during a tense exchange with Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., about allegations in the complaint of a potential “cover-up” regarding the Ukraine call, Maguire pushed back again by reminding the committee that the complaint was not based on direct knowledge.

“This is second-hand information from a whistleblower. I have no knowledge if that is a true and accurate statement,” Maguire said regarding the “cover-up” claim. The complaint said White House officials tried to “lock down” records of the call. In the same document, the whistleblower also acknowledged not being a “direct witness” to most of the events described, instead citing other U.S. officials who are not named.

Republican members also jumped to Maguire's defense at the hearing, while accusing Democrats of launching an "information warfare operation" against Trump. Rep. Chris Stewart, R-Utah, said of Maguire: "I think you're nuts if you're going to convince the American people that your cause is just by attacking this man, by impugning his character."

The patriotic Americans will see thru this BS and side with President Trump...

That much is certain..

But it's clear that this whole charade by the Dumbocrats is neither "simple" nor "obvious" and it is very VERY clear it's defensible..

Democrats have already lost.. They are just too stoopid to know it..

They "have the whistleblower complaint. You have the letter from the ICIG. You have the Office of Legal Counsel opinion and you have the transcript from the president.” And that transcript shows an open crime.

I'd think this will continue awhile.

President Trump told reporters that the process is a “disgrace,” defended his Ukraine call as “absolutely perfect” and accused Democrats of bringing any legislative progress to a standstill.

“They’re frozen, the Democrats,” he said.

Maguire's reputation was also on trial Thursday. He has come under fire from Democrats for initially withholding a copy of the complaint from lawmakers. That standoff was technically resolved when the complaint was declassified, and released to the public, in advance of the hearing. But Maguire was still pressed for answers from Democratic committee members on why his office did not hand over the complaint at first.

Maguire insisted he is "not partisan" and "not political," reminding the panel that he served under eight presidents and has taken the oath of office 11 times.

"I have served and led through turbulent times," he said. "... My integrity has never been questioned until now."

However, he maintained, "I believe that I handled this matter in full compliance with the law at all times.”

“This is second-hand information. I am not criticizing the whistleblower,” Macguire said. “... I am in no position to tell the committee to do an investigation or not to do an investigation.”

Schiff vowed at the end "we are gonna find out" the backstory, including whether U.S. aid was tied in any way to Trump's investigation request, which the president denies.

The combative conclusion of the session reflected the high tensions and enormous stakes surrounding Maguire's appearance. The rare open hearing of the intelligence committee commanded Washington's political attention given the implications for the newly launched impeachment inquiry against Trump, related to the whistleblower complaint.

Shortly after the hearing ended, Trump fired back on Twitter, saying: “Adam Schiff has zero credibility. Another fantasy to hurt the Republican Party!”

Yep...

Democrats are going to fold and have to concede there is nothing here..

Haven't heard anything from Pelosi all day..

She is probably busy throwing up at the utter and total BONE HEAD move she made by listening to the ignorant freshman class..

Acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire, in tense testimony Thursday on Capitol Hill, defended his handling of the explosive whistleblower complaint alleging President Trump pressured the Ukrainian president to investigate the Biden family -- while calling the matter "unprecedented."

But after maintaining his composure for most of the morning, his frustration showed through at the end, when House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., repeatedly pressed him to agree that the matter should be investigated.

READ THE WHISTLEBLOWER'S COMPLAINT

Maguire stressed that the committee now has all of the relevant information, including the whistleblower complaint itself that was released publicly Thursday morning, and said it's up to them to decide how to proceed.

“The horse has left the barn,” Maguire said. “You have all of the information. You have the whistleblower complaint. You have the letter from the ICIG. You have the Office of Legal Counsel opinion and you have the transcript from the president.”

Maguire also stressed that the complaint was essentially "hearsay" and not “corroborated by other folks.”

Yep..

That is **ALL** Democrats have..

Nothing but hearsay from ANONYMOUS sources..

I give this a week.. 2 tops before Democrats have to throw in the towel and admit it's a big ball of NOTHING...

The President has a duty to facilitate investigation of any suspected interference in our electoral process, whether that be by foreign actors or domestic. The President also represents the nation in foreign relations and has large latitude in that area. These are functions of the office.

President Trump called President Zelensky to congratulate him on his electoral success; this is absolutely standard, and it would be an egregious breach of protocol as well as a calamitous failure of realpolitik to do otherwise. During this call, the President, again absolutely naturally and appropriately, touched on a delicate matter of mutual national significance - the existing and ongoing investigation into Ukraine's role in the established Russian interference in US elections. Democrats have been demanding this too; Trump alluded to then-VP Biden's pressurizing of a previous Ukrainian administration, ostensibly because a prosecutor was insufficiently zealous in rooting out corruption (the administration thus pressurized itself fell amid accusations of corruption, of course), and also accurately described the former veep as "bragging" about how he'd got a prosecutor fired who happened to be looking at a company where Biden's son had a sinecure board seat.

If the Democrats believe Biden did nothing wrong, they have nothing to fear from any of this, and none of it amounts to any kind of conceivable "high crime or misdemeanor."
-Dr Strange

Once again, the facts are clear...

This is going to DESTROY Joe Biden and likely land Hunter Biden in jail..

And President Trump is going to come out of it like a rose and coast to re-election..

"These are the facts of the case. And they are undisputed."

Mike, you don't watch Fox because you have no TV.

It's amazing to see you jumping up and down about this. Your "party drone" model falls apart whenever you fail to ding Trump. It's pathetic.

Have you tried bowling?

Other senators staunchly defended Trump.

Tillis called the House impeachment inquiry “another pathetic attempt by Democrats to destroy President Trump with falsehoods to overturn the results of the 2016 election.”

Ernst dismissed the transcript as lacking incriminating evidence.

“The fact that House Democrats dove head first into an impeachment inquiry before seeing this transcript shows exactly what we’ve known all along: They are determined to impeach President Trump. I’ve looked at the transcript; I don’t see anything there,” she said.

Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.), who faces reelection next year, said there was “nothing” in the transcript that backed up the whistleblower’s complaint.

“I just am embarrassed, almost, that the Speaker would take this document, having not seen it, and take it to an impeachment conversation,” he said.

A moderate Democrat who spoke on condition of anonymity to The Hill said it would have been better if Pelosi had waited until after the transcript was made public but noted she was under tremendous pressure.

“I think it would have been smart to wait until she saw the transcript,” the senator said, adding, “I don’t think Speaker Pelosi had a choice.”

Democrats think it would have been smart to wait until some FACTS were released before she announced impeachment..

Of course, Democrats NEVER do the "smart" thing.

If they did, they wouldn't be Democrats!! :D

I have to say, I was very surprised at this turn of events. Pelosi is uniquely well-placed to understand how badly this is likely to go.

There are three constituencies, broadly, for the House election. You have people who are already likely to vote for the Democrat in 2020; people who are already likely to vote for the Republican; and people who are undecided between the two.

You can break those down into various subsets, and you can adopt various strategies to motivate or suppress voting from various blocs. Impeachment is terrible electoral politics, for several reasons.

It tends to solidify partisan support for the President's party, which means gettable Republican votes go begging. It tends to turn off voters who are already disengaged from politics; it looks like what it is, partisan attacks in lieu of good government. And it tends to force representatives to run election campaigns like primaries, because they cannot afford to seem squishy on impeachment. It makes all elections national, rather than local, and you win a local election by making issues relevant to local voters. Lucy McBath won in GA-6, a historically safe Republican seat, Newt Gingrich's former seat even, on a campaign of gun regulation advocacy and nonthreatening sensible bipartisanship. She's been delivering on that, so far, but she is going to have to fight 2020 now on a platform of impeaching Trump. And that's a platform that may well lose, there and in a bunch of other purplish Democratic seats.
-Dr Strange

Yep.. Democrats really skewed the Independents and NPAs.. Most were ambivalent and would just as soon stay home as vote for Trump..

Now that Democrats are pushing a totally bogus Impeachment?? Independents and NPAs are going to punish the Democrats. BIG TIME...

Nice ta hear from ya, Stephen.. :D

“I love engaging in politics and having discussions about politics,” said Carma Moncure, 51. “But I feel like you can’t really have a good conversation when the name Trump comes up. I feel there’s this disregard for him and the office of the presidency.”

The forensic specialist for the Long Beach Police Department said her parents are Samoan immigrants and very conservative — her dad’s a former missionary and her mom was a nurse — so she has been a Republican since youth. She voted for Trump in 2016 and plans to vote for him in 2020.

“I do think [impeachment is] pretty premature,” she said Tuesday night, adding that the inquiry is political.

She believes Trump being in office is “a revolution. It upset the order of things.” She said he just has a “different voice. And I don’t mind hearing that voice.”

Facts to support?

Ask the head of the Intelligence committee. There's a reason the "impeachment committee" is six different committees: this is just the latest thing to put on the pile of things they have to consider.

Becky Hinkle of Glendale argues that the impeachment inquiry is a Democratic ploy to tilt the 2020 election that will backfire.

“I don’t think there’s enough information for them to be able to open an impeachment. I think that’s a really strong word,” Hinkle said while meeting with friends at Phil Trani’s restaurant in Long Beach.

Hinkle, who voted for Trump in 2016 and plans to do so again, said her life has dramatically improved since Trump took office. “Oh, yeah. My bank account’s a lot higher. My business is running really good. And my investments are all doing very well,” she said. “I think the stock market has been a big thing because of him, because he is business-minded.”

PATRIOTIC Americans are completely and 1000% supporting President Trump.. :D

Democrats really scrooed da pooch this time.. :D

RELEVANT FACT: Trump was withholding bipartisan military aid from Ukraine, while simultaneously trying to get Zelentsky to reopen a case against Biden.

It's so perfect, you could cut it with a spoon.

Mike, ignoring you is easy.

Apparently... NOT.. :D

Just a hint.. If you go on and on about how easy it is to ignore someone..

You ain't REALLY ignoring them, now are you??

BBBWWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA

But you have shown that all that Republicants have to say is, "nothing to see here", when the entire world has a different opinion.

Yea.. You said the EXACT same thing during your Russia Collusion delusion..

How did THAT work out??

Oh yea.. Mueller completely and utterly exonerated President Trump..

That's always a tough place from which to start.

Apparently not so tough.. Since, according to you, that's where the GOP started with your Russia Collusion delusion..

And look what happened. Mueller TOTALLY and COMPLETELY exonerated President Trump..

Sanders likened the recent impeachment push by Democrats to the Russia investigation and accused them of using a "fake scandal" to dupe American voters and regain executive power.

"This is exactly out of the Democrats' playbook," she said. "They used a fake scandal with Russia. Now they're trying to create a fake scandal with Ukraine. It doesn't matter who the actors are. The real bad players in this whole process are the Democrats, trying to fool American voters.

"The good thing is, the American voters are far too smart to fall for the Democrat lies," Sanders continued. "I think one of the best things that's coming out of this is the contrast of who is showing up to be fit to lead our country in a very trying time."

Sanders also said the Democratic Party has become so anti-Trump, they're willing to hurt the country if it means hurting the president.

"Time and time again the Democrats show their true colors. They don't care about the country," she added. "They care about tearing the president down. They've completely lost sight of what is important and are singularly focused on making sure they destroy the president and win reelection."

Sanders is an authority on Demcorats, having seen and studied them up close and personal..
