Program Note

[ Posted Wednesday, May 8th, 2019 – 18:50 UTC ]

The end of the saga! My apologies once again for the lack of new column today, but this will be the last time (for this particular reason, at any rate). Spent the day dealing with the car again, but the transmission has now been rebuilt and it's charging around as good as new. That's the good news -- the bad news was the bill, of course. Sigh. But personal finance woes aside, this is good news for everyone else because this will be the last time I have to play hookey to deal with the car. So my apologies once again, and let's hope nothing else needs fixing for a good long while.

Dems' 'Dark Money' Disconnect: Groups Mum on Disclosure

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, who has spent years railing against so-called “dark money” conservative groups for what he regards as their outsized, improper political influence, now grudgingly concedes that it’s a problem on both sides.

The Rhode Island Democrat has had little choice as recent reports from groups calling for less money in politics, such as the Washington-based Issue One, have found that left-wing nonprofits far outspent conservative ones in the 2018 midterms and are gearing up to expand their activity this cycle.

The law is clear. Barr was offered a chance to petition the courts for clearance, but demurred. Yes, they'll do it themselves, presumably once the President's claims are resolved.

It appears that the Intel committee's request will get further, since it 1) cuts through 'privileged' material, 2) cuts through classified material. Presumably, they're entitled to it IN FULL. See how that works out.

Either way, looks terrible. Here's Trump hiding what he said was full exoneration. Couldn't look more guilty.

But of course, Barr's deal would not only NOT make the redactions disappear, it would have congressmen swear an oath not to divulge it's contents, even to each other.

    Michale wrote:

The courts can't clear it.. Only under special circumstances, such as impeachment hearings..

Why are you Dumbocrats so afraid of taking a stand on impeachment??

    Facts to support??

No, of course not.. You never do have any facts..

Really? Tell you what: release the full report to the Democrats and see if they run.

You can always tell who hasn't read the Mueller report when you see this bullshit that Democrats are afraid to have it released. Pay no attention to the fact that Democrats have been trying to get it released... oh, no... that's all the proof you need to know they don't really want it released.

This type of pretzel logic he's spewing recently is the handiwork and courtesy of the QAnon conspiracy theory right-wingnuts, which conspiracy bullshit has made its way from 4Chan to 8Chan and is now being peppered into mainstream right-wing propaganda media with various assorted and differing variations on the main theme but the underlying idea being that Donald Trump is working behind the scenes to take down those "evil Democrats"... any day now.

According to the QAnon right-wingnuts, the Mueller investigation is actually a countercoup against the "deep state" coup. This countercoup is... get this... the work of that mastermind Donald Trump, whom they believe is a diabolical genius and great businessman rather than the pathological liar and con artist he happens to be.

Losing $1.1 billion dollars in a decade? So what? Happens every day to great businessmen. *shakes head* You see, Donald Trump only pretended to collude with Russia in order to hire Robert Mueller, who has been secretly investigating Democrats, and those evil Democrats are all going to jail... any day now.

Pay no attention to all those Trump associates going to jail, it's all part of Donald Trump's diabolical plan to catch those "evil Democrats," and pay no attention to the Mueller Report itself since it's fiction and meanwhile Mueller's Grand Jury is hearing testimony regarding the "evil Democrats." It's taken on a life of its own in all kinds of directions and variations on the them where the "OIG report" and "Horowitz" are going to blow this whole thing wide open... any day now.
