What makes these mascots worse than mascots for the Vikings or the Spartans? Should Norwegians or Greeks be offended by the way they are depicted? One of the elder tribe members said removing these mascots removes their people from society’s view, white-washing them into oblivion. Granted, it’s been 20 years since I was there, but back then as long as teams weren’t calling their mascot “Drunk Injun” or anything negative like that, some Native Americans liked having teams desiring to be called “Indians”! Mostly, because I think it's more important to focus on the recognition of inherent aboriginal rights by non-aboriginal governments. Having said that, if native Americans see these logos as offensive and would like to see them disappear then I would support them in that effort.
