One thing about Manafort that nobody asks: how did he and Trump connect?

Manafort had just been working for the Russian backed President of the Ukraine's campaign team prior to his being forced out of the country. Manafort was instrumental in getting a treaty allowing Russian oil pipelines to run through the Ukraine during his time there. Then the people forced the president to flee, which would have put the oil treaty in danger of falling apart. That's when Putin sent troops in to the Ukraine and took over the Crimean Port. Is it just a random coincidence that the only input Trump's people were concerned with regarding the GOP's platform was to change the party's position on how to respond to Russian aggressions in the Ukraine? It went from calling on the U.S. to provide the Ukraine "lethal defensive weapons" to the more benign phrase "appropriate assistance."

Fast forward to Exxon's CEO deciding that he wants a government salary and being named as Trump's pick for Secretary of State -- the position that will have the biggest influence on our country's decision as to whether to maintain sanctions against Russia. You remember those sanctions -- the one's that put a stop to Exxon's contract to start pumping oil out of Russia -- you know, the one worth over 3 trillion dollars??!! The Leave campaign never really expected to win (sound familiar) so they didn't do their homework on the obligations involved. It turns out that there are some very large unfunded pension plans for EU bureaucrats that the Brits will need to pay into before they leave. The kicker is the average pension for the bureaucrats involved is twice the median household income of the U.K.

To say this isn't going down well is an understatement.

A couple of news items just compounded the sheer stupidity and horror of 2016 across the pond (we are dealing with our own 2016 voting mistakes at the moment, so some of you may have missed these).

#1 - The Big Promise

One of the most compelling promises that the clowns like Nigel Farage and Boris Johnson made during the Brexit campaign was the 350M pounds/week fee to the EU was going to go to the NHS (single payer healthcare system much loved by the Brits) instead. They even had a double-decker red London bus painted up with their promise.

So an opposition MP forced them to put their money where their mouth was and introduced a bill to increase the spending to the NHS appropriately.

The Tory government (most of whom were big "Leave" supporters) promptly voted against the bill.

Trump would lose all legitimacy as president were he to admit that anything of this sort transpired. There are some deeds that cannot be acknowledged.
