I don't expect you to learn, but you never know. Terrorism is very difficult to stop. Individuals can become radicalized and the damage they do is limited only by the weapons they have. Some are small groups, like the "Crusaders" in Kansas and their loose lips give them away. Some leverage weaknesses in our systems like the 9/11 terrorists with their box cutters. An effective anti-terrorism strategy will:

1. Understand the steps to radicalization and monitors pathways such as viewing certain types of online content, etc.

2. Close weaknesses in the system, such as unlocked cockpit doors in planes.

3. Limit access to destructive weapons such as fertilizer or firearms

4. Address genuine political injustice like the systematic suppression of Catholics in N. Ireland until recently, etc. to ensure that the host communities are on the side of law enforcement

Now tell me where the Army fits in? What are they going to do?

Nonsense - massed armies are easy to identify and attack. But the last time any army tried to match us in the field was in 2003 and it was one sided. Even then the army was trying to stop our invasion.

We need to keep a strong conventional military but it is now like our nuclear deterrent. Mostly to remind Russia and China not to attack us our the countries we have treaties with.

The conventional army is mostly useless against terrorism. Fighting terrorism is an intelligence and police action, which is and should be prosecuted intensely. Our last act of terrorism on U.S. soil was at Fort Lauderdale airport earlier this month. Who are you going to bomb? Who are you going to attack with artillery or missiles? Who do you tell the Marines to take out?

Look at the list of terrorist attacks in the U.S. for the last few years and most have been home grown. People have been filled with hatred or are simply insane and have been allowed access to firearms. The Army can't help here. Tanks are useless.

We need to identify the root causes and eliminate tem:

1. Insane people should not be allowed access to firearms

2. Us and Them arguments where people on one side decide who is a real American and who isn't (look in a mirror my friend, a lot of your posts have been promoting the view that only you are patriotic) create division that is the topsoil, and hateful rhetoric from extremists on the other side are the fertilizer in which radicalism grows.

3. Bombing a family to kill one member who is a terrorist creates more new terrorists.

4. Like it or not, we are the strongest nation on earth. Other nuclear powers need not fear us, but if we threaten everybody, we will create proliferation - look at North Korea and Iran - both were nervous but uncommitted until Bush 2 started his "Axis of Evil" talk, then they both ramped up nuclear programs. 45 needs to keep his stupid trap shut. We don't need to brag to be the strongest power on earth, we already are.
