I believe Comey would make a very good AG. And, I'd like to think he would have thrown Bill Clinton off the plane. :)

Balthasar,

Well, Democrats don't have to be sold on it, right?

That's the beauty of it.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think Jeff Sessions looks like a rough drawing of one of the Disney dwarfs?

I see poison dwarf. He should be green.

Also I can't wait to see the wording of the laws to restrict funds to "sanctuary" cities. This is going to be a lot more difficult to codify that the Republicans have made out to their drones.

Forcing the police to be INS agents at traffic stops is asinine. Checking status on arrest is likely to catch illegal aliens who turn out to be innocent of any crime, but now subject to deportation, resulting in alienating the communities against the police and putting cops in more danger and lowering cooperation.

As usual, the "sanctuary" policies are designed to improve the situation, not thumb a nose at the perpetually indignant. Do we have to learn this lesson the hard way again?

Sessions opened up the marijuana genie today - this is not a good thing, but one thing the Democrats should do is not let them turn it into a R vs. D issue - this needs to be a internecine R vs. R and disastrous R vs. People issue.

Republicans will try to make this a "stoners in basements" issue. In response Democrats should shout about kids needing medicine and states rights, making those the key issue, not recreational weed in particular. This will drive the Republicans nuts because:

1. It is stealing their state's rights "issue" and they will have to engage in some very unconvincing pretzel logic to defend taking medicine away from very visible desperate kids and parents

2. Their constituents will be calling them directly and they won't be able to play the "bad liberal" card

3. It is very likely that a schism will appear in the Republican party between the congress and the Trump-Putin regime that will help the Democrats build a "broken tyranny" message that should be centerstage in the Trump-Putin regime

If Sessions isn't as stupid as he seems he will try to create a split between genuine medical marijuana and recreational use. This might be effective, especially if he can impose stronger restrictions on getting a prescription (e.g. "I can't sleep doc" won't work any longer). Regardless it will require federal prosecutors to be very active within unwilling states.

Given his behavior during the election, it will be hard to sell Democrats on the premise that he is a reliable administrator. Depending on who you talk to, Comey is either a good man who handled a situation badly, or an elite prosecutor covering his political rear. Neither is a recommendation for promotion.

I guess this is an open thread, more or less, so ...

I'm thinking that Trump may have to find another candidate to nominate for Attorney General.

And, of course, I have a suggestion ... how about promoting Comey to AG. :)

Comments, questions, insults?

Maybe you could use this experience as an analogy for a future column when the Trump voters that thought they were voting to turn off the power in our political process realize that Trump has not only kept the power on but is also raising the price.

Or maybe you could make Trump supporters realize that there are implications to switching off ObamaPower ;)
