I appreciate your kind thoughts. It's been a tough time.

This goes against all I hold dear in terms of blogging, because I've always held myself to the standard of "blogging about your personal life is nothing but boring for everyone else." I've held to this rigidly, ignoring many events of joy and sorrow in my own life throughout the years I've been blogging. I never crossed this line, no matter how I was tempted.

But I've already mentioned it a few months ago, and I alluded to it this week (I heard most of the debates on the car radio in the vet's parking lot, waiting for medical news on the status of our kitty).

In any case, I thought it deserved at least a comment here. This is an all-consuming sorrow, and it has spilled over into my work.

I can't thank you enough for telling me you haven't noticed any such decline. It tells me I'm holding up so far and still delivering commentary that people see as relevant.

It's a tough time, but thoughts like yours keep me going. So I do thank you for jumping into the comment section to share them.

And one last thing, I've said it before, but it bears pointing out -- the cat photo in my header is NOT my actual pet. It's just a random "grumpy cat" photo I pulled off the internet (before such a concept was so cool).

Our own kitty values her privacy...

I haven't noticed any decline in your writing. I read regularly, but rarely dive into commenting.

"Party of Free ObamaPhones"

Except there is one problem with the Obama Phone: It DOESN'T exist. The program is called "SafeLink." It was actually started in 2008 under George W. Bush. It provides free or low cost cell phones.

The program is paid for by telecommunications companies through an independent non-profit, and is NOT funded by the government or ANY taxpayer money.

The idea of providing low-income individuals with subsidized (landline) phone service actually originated in the Reagan administration following the break-up of AT&T in 1984. (It was expanded and formalized by the Telecommunications Act of 1996.)

With modern fact checking so readily available, I am surprised that you continue to buy in and push this right wing urban myth Michale.

It's been a tough week, as our kitty is getting closer and closer to those great catnip fields in the sky. It's been hard for me to concentrate on politics, and my writing has not been at its best, I realize.

I'm going to take some time today to answer comments, and I apologize for ignoring them for the past week or so. I'll post links here to my answers, including a very interesting comment from a new user.
