Sitting here at the shop at 0430, I had a little bit o introspection regarding marijuana..

As many of ya'all know I am about as big of an anti-smoking nazi as ya'all would ever meet..

And then it occurred to me..

Am I so anti-marijuana because the most common delivery method is smoking it? Would I be as against marijuana if it were in pill form??

I have to admit that I don't know the answer to that question..

But it did lead me to another question.

Would marijuana be so popular IF it were just in pill form??

Things that make ya go... hmmmmmmm....

I was contacted, after posting this, by one of the original Yippie participants and organizers of the DC Smoke-Ins, who expressed his appreciation for what I had written. Seeing as how Abbie Hoffman was an early political influence on my own politics (although I was born about 10 years too late to ever be a part of that scene), I have to publicly state here that I have never received higher praise for anything I've written (pun fully intended!).

One of the fondest memories of my youth was seeing Leonard Nimoy in a one-man show about Van Gogh, told from the point of view of his brother Theo. The show was called "Vincent" and showed that Nimoy had acting depths that went far beyond Star Trek.

He will be missed. That is for sure.

Mostly this is due to the fact that I tried (twice) to write about the fiasco in Congress over the Department of Homeland Security budget, but both times had to delete what I had written because events were moving so fast and so unexpectedly while I was busy writing. So, instead, I am throwing up my hands in frustration and will be following the late-night developments tonight, along with everyone else.

I have to say, I am proud of all Weigantians..

That ya'all would fight so passionately for the Department Of Homeland Security tells me that ya'all finally get it..

That nothing trumps National Security... And if we have to have an agency whose mandate is to ignore basic civil liberties??

Well, I am glad ta see ya'all are finally on board with that. :D

Now let me remove my tongue from my cheek... :D

That may be a rather illogical construct, but it just seemed the most appropriate thing to say. The fictional character the late Leonard Nimoy played often used "Live long and prosper" as his favored salutation, which is just a rephrasing of the basic sentiment, really. Nimoy will be missed by fans all over the world, who agree with President Obama's simple statement: "I loved Spock." We all did, which is why Spock will live on in many hearts. Long live Mr. Spock!
