Typo, Republicans have a 75-66% chance . I'm using a tiny touchscreen. I need real keys. Made you jump though....heh heh. Maybe the error reflects deep brain wishfully thinking on my part?

Oh, before I get to answering these: new column is now up for Election Night, so check it out!

Michale [1] -

I don't know if I'd even go as far as "prevail," but I am hopeful that Dems pick up a few close races. Call me a rosy-colored optimist if you will, but somehow "only losing 5 Senate seats" still feels a long way from "prevailing."

It may not be a "wave," and it may not turn out to be a "shellacking" but Dems are in for a pretty rough night no matter what happens.

[3] -

Yes, I will be checking in tonight, and invite everyone else to as well. But I suggest moving over to today's column for a fresh new comment thread...

nypoet22 [5] -

I wonder if television-watchers in those two states would agree with you. There will be an absolute AVALANCHE of ads, if we have runoffs and they will decide control.

[6] -

OK, that "rent/lay-away" line was pretty funny, I have to admit!

:-)

Michale [7] -

On the fraud thing... you've got to pace yourself. Only take a drink when a Republican wins a state tonight. Otherwise you'll pass out before the final results.

Heh.

As for Orman, I think no matter who he caucuses with for Maj. Ldr., he's still going to be pretty independent. He won't be an automatic vote for either side, that's my guess. I could be wrong, though.

[8] -

I'm a bit mystified as to why you ascribe magical powers to Joe Biden. I mean, it'll make LizM happy, but seriously, just because Biden said something it means Orman will or won't do something later? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Unless Orman is a robot, and Biden has the control panel or something.

Like I said, you've got to pace the drinking, dude.

Heh.

TheStig [9] -

Well, I'm glad someone took this column in the spirit it was offered! Michale: think of that Star Trek TOS episode with the gladiator fights on television...

:-)

Michale [13] -

Oh, puh-LEEZ. Obama's said plenty of gracious things in his time, too. The question is: what did Pelosi and Bush actually get accomplished? What will Boehner/McConnell and Obama manage to get accomplished? That's the true measure, not some platitude offered the day afterwards.

When Democrats gave the GOP a "thumpin' " during Bush's second mid-term, a reporter asked President Bush...

<B>“Thank you, Mr. President. With all due respect, Nancy Pelosi has called you incompetent, a liar, the emperor with no clothes and, as recently as yesterday, dangerous. How will you work with someone who has such little respect for your leadership and who is third in line to the presidency?”</B>

Bush replied...

<B> “I’ve been around politics a long time. I understand when campaigns end and I know when governing begins. And I’m going to work with people of both parties. You know, look, people say unfortunate things at times. But if you hold grudges in this line of work, you’re never going to get anything done. And my intention is to get some things done, and soon—we’re start visiting with her Friday with the idea of coming together.”</B>

Can anyone imagine that Obama would show the humility and graciousness that Bush exhibited???

Me neither....

Obama has never met a grudge he didn't want to hold...

Democrats don't DESERVE any good news this election...

<I>the Democrats still have roughly a 66% - 75% chance, if their state by state booking keeping is to balance.</I>

And yet, NO ONE is reporting this..

Not even the Left Wing MSM....

While the quantitative prognosticators are calling the Republicans clear favorites to control the senate,
the Democrats still have roughly a 66% - 75% chance, if their state by state booking keeping is to balance.

<B> “And that’s my message to voters, this isn’t about Barack, it’s not about person on that ballot– its about you. And for most of the people we are talking to, a Democratic ticket is the clear ticket that we should be voting on, regardless of who said what or did this– that shouldn’t even come into the equation. Absolutely. I give everyone full permission to eat some fried chicken after they vote."</B>
-Michelle Obama

Hmmmmmm....

So, according to FLOTUS, people shouldn't think, they should just vote Democrat...

yea, cuz that's worked out SO WELL to date, eh...

And I guess only Democrats are allowed to play into racial stereo-types...

Imagine the outcry from Dems if a GOP'er had said something like that...

That's what bugs me so much about Democrats.. They blatantly and unrelenting hypocrisy...

CW - You have definitely picked the most interesting Senate race outcome possible! There's been considerable media focus on Independent Orman, much less on the possibility of runoff elections a 2 month delay in the final tally. Not likely, but definitely possible. Fun and games. In the sense of ancient Roman Games, definitely.

<I> biden called it a chance. not exactly the language of someone certain of how things would go. </I>

of course.. Orman actually has to win the election first. But, from the audio, it's clear that THAT is the only "chance" that Biden is talking about..

Meaning, if Orman wins, he will caucus with Democrats, regardless...

That's my take anyways..

Orman better hope A> he does win and B> majority winner be delayed til Jan...

Otherwise he is going to have to put up or shut up...

<I>those in glass houses, michale...</I>

For example??

Sure, I am sure you can find a Republican who said he/she would be independent...

But I doubt you can find a Republican who ran as an "Independent", said he would caucus with whoever is in the majority and then renege on that promise and caucus with Republicans anyways..

Which brings up an interesting question..

If Orman wins and if Republicans get a clear majority but Orman caucuses with Democrats anyways, can Orman be sued for fraud???

I mean, sure.. Politicians break promises all the time.. But this isn't a case of circumstances preventing follow-thru... It's a case of Orman making a conscious decision to completely ignore his promise..

Seems to me that that would constitute fraud...

<i>A Democrat in Independent clothing....</i>

those in glass houses, michale...

<i>Biden's revelation will likely give Kansas to Roberts and the GOP...</i>

revelation of what exactly? that biden hopes to have an independent who'll caucus with him? i read the text; biden called it a chance. not exactly the language of someone certain of how things would go. i'm not saying you're necessarily wrong; "democrat" generally means for rent to the highest bidder (as opposed to "republican" which means owned on lay-away), so in that sense biden's chance seems likely - unless the GOP makes a better offer.

i will. i wonder what happens if it's tied and GA and LA have run-offs in december and january. it would be great from an education perspective to have legislative power hang in the balance for so long.

I have to admit, I am impressed...

Despite all the indications of a rout, a shellacking you hold firm to the belief that Democrats might actually prevail.. :D

But then again, ya never had a problem with bucking conventional wisdom... :D

I am not going into a play by play as I don't have the knowledge or, more accurately, the expertise to interpret the knowledge..

But I will predict that the GOP will take the Senate and that it will be a decisive victory.. It may not rise to the level of a "shellacking", but it will be firm and unequivocal...

I freely admit that this is as much wish-casting as it is looking at the evidence. It would be very very pleasurable to me to see Democrats, who have run roughshod over the will of the minority AND the will of the American people time and time and time again, to receive some of their own treatment, in spades..

To paraphrase, hell hath no fury like an electorate scorned...

There is about to be a reckoning, courtesy of the American people..
