I've got it you guys. to acknowledge the new responsiblitiy the atf will have over drug policy of the united states, and to just assume it and the dea are folded together. (unlikely, but it's my hypothetical) I give you their new name. DAFT Drugs, alcohol, firearms and tobacco. not only does it spell a word, but it truly enshrines the uncomfortable cultural relationship americans have with regulation and enforcement.

Ministry of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, Explosives and Cannabis. MATFEC Pronounced Matfec, as in "best Feckin' Federal Regulatory Agency Ever!" Destined to be truncated to "The FEC" "Now where's me feckin' badge?" "It's on your feckin' cap, yeh feckin' idjiot! See, it trips off the tongue in realistic, TV-like dialog! Yes, there will be a TV, or possibly a holographic, series. Featuring the regulatory acumen of an agent named, wait for it .... Matt Feck! Yes, we are evolving on the issue of marijuana. Add Stoner sapiens to the evolutionary march of progress.

Alright, the best I come up with is TEAMB. 1. The "B" is silent, as in "limb." 2. In a trade-off, the NRA gets a win on this by having the agency lose its ability to regulate firearms. Some other, more NRA-amenable agency takes firearms. 3. Words like "The" and "and" don't need to be in the acronym. The Tabacco, Explosives, Alcohol, and Marijuana Bureau. PS: Here, here!
