I'm going to need a link for that beer story. It sounds suspiciously like an urban myth (to be polite).

I'll get you the link..

Will you call Obama on it and concede it was childish and immature??

I know you probably will..

But will anyone else??

Not only no, but HELL no...

You mean so far back that the baby boomer generation would remember living through such times?

No, I mean so far back before we elected a black man as POTUS..

Just to repeat, since ya'all must have missed it..

In other words, tolerance and respect are two way streets..

When ya'all start showing tolerance and respect for conservative/Republicans then you will have a moral leg to stand on.

Until then, you don't...

It's really that simple...

Michale [6] -

I'm going to need a link for that beer story. It sounds suspiciously like an urban myth (to be polite).

The only Obama beer story from the 2012 campaign trail I heard (and one which will make even you laugh) was from the Iowa state fair (I believe, doing this from memory) where Obama bought everyone in the beer tent a round, prompting a guy in the back to start a chant of "Four more beers! Four more beers!"

Heh. Like I said, support Obama or not, that's funny!

Michale [8] -

So, by your reasoning, we shouldn't ever have passed the Civil Rights Act? Because before it, a whole bunch of southern businesses refused service to all black people. Legally.

YoYo [12] -

Exactly.

Michale [13] -

There hasn't been a case, because the state law doesn't recognize gay people's equality in their civil rights law. Next door, New Mexico does. And gay people have indeed sued.

What if you're gay and live in a town where the only pharmacy is owned by someone who refuses you service? And what if the next town is 100 miles away and you don't have a car (this is entirely possible in desert states)? What are you supposed to do? See, that's why we have non-discrimination laws. To avoid problems like that.

:-)

About a hundred of American history 1865-1965 (roughly) would disagree with you.

If you have to go back that far to make your argument, you have already lost..

I repeat.. There has NEVER been a case of sexual orientation discrimination brought in the state of Arizona..

Ya'all make the argument that voter fraud is a non-existent problem therefore there is no need for Voter ID...

Now, you are making the diametrically opposite argument here..

If a business discriminates against gay people, then gay people can simply take their business elsewhere..

But that isn't really the issue. Gay people want to force businesses to ACCEPT their lifestyle...

It all comes back to regulating and forcing acceptance..

As I said above.. Ya'all don't have a problem with businesses or governments or our POTUS that discriminate against conservatives or Republicans..

This being the case, morally and ethically, you have absolutely NO leg to stand on...

hundred years* Why is there no edit button????

Too easy to re-write recent history.. :D

Liz,

I think Americans have WAY too much freedom and not nearly enough of a sense of responsibility.

I can agree whole-heartedly with that sentiment..

Pretty much, because otherwise we get this kind of nonsense.

If a business has that kind of nonsense, it won't be in business for very long..

Case in point. Has there ever been a case of gay discrimination in Arizona?

No there has not..

This, despite the FACT that it has been "legal" to do so since 1999...

And you get to impose your religious beliefs on others why?

First of all, I HAVE no religious beliefs...

Secondly, how does this update to the old law constitute imposing one's religion??

It's MY business.. If I want to refuse service to Klingons because they are foul smelling barbarians, *I* have that right... If the Klingons don't like it, they can simply go somewhere else..

Using YOUR reasoning, ANY business owner MUST give service to ANYONE, irregardless...

So much for freedom, eh??

Like I said, ya'all are ALL about freedom and "rights".. But only to those who think as you do...

Regardless, the AZ update to the RFRA of 1999 would have made it HARDER to use the "religious freedom" defense...

"The only thing this "new" law would do is allow said businesses to use religious freedom as an affirmative defense"

And you get to impose your religious beliefs on others why?

The Left is all about diversity and tolerance.

ONLY if you believe what the Left believes..

Need proof??

During the last POTUS Election, Obama was at a campaign stop at a bar. He bought a round of beers for the house. Everyone except the guy wearing the ROMNEY FOR PRESIDENT T-shirt..

Pure, unadulterated discrimination from the guy who claimed he would be POTUS for ALL Americans. Not just Americans who would vote for him..

Beyond childish. Beyond immature.. It's pure discrimination..

I could point to DOZENS, HUNDREDS of cases in the last 6 years where conservatives were discriminated against at businesses and by our government...

If ya'all were TRULY against discrimination as ya'all claim, you would speak out against ALL discrimination.

Not just the discrimination that suits a certain political ideology..

Am I wrong??

If ya'all want to know the FACTS of this issue, as opposed to the fear-mongering hysteria, by all means...

Issue Analysis: Arizona Bill Does Not Give Businesses License to Discriminate Against Gays
http://www.christianpost.com/news/issue-analysis-arizona-bill-does-not-give-businesses-license-to-discriminate-against-gays-115093/

All this "new" law does is update the AZ State Law, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1999..

In fact, this update actually NARROWS when religious freedom can be used a business's right to refuse service..

So, by supporting the veto of this new update, ya'all are actually making it EASIER for businesses in AZ to discriminate..

Congrats... :D

Ya'all seem to forget one thing.

The "new" law isn't really new at all..

Businesses in Arizona are already free to refuse service to anyone for any reason..

The only thing this "new" law would do is allow said businesses to use religious freedom as an affirmative defense..

But the illogical hysteria from the Left proves one thing..

The Left is all about diversity and tolerance.

ONLY if you believe what the Left believes..

Where is the tolerance FROM the Left about the rights of religious people??

No where to be found...

LizM -

I did manage to get this published before the news broke...

:-)

I'm glad Brewer decided to veto. But I bet we haven't heard the last of these types of bills being passed at the state level...

What a beautifully written piece!

I heard earlier this evening that the governor of Arizona vetoed the bill in question. I would like to think that her reasoning followed this parable.
