<I>So Dems are using Jedi mind tricks to keep Boehner and the GOP from bringing up immigration reform? Wow.</I>

Nope.. I am simply saying that Boner made a deal with the DEMS.. You get a clean Debt Ceiling but I can't give you Immigration "reform"...

<I>Speaking of universes, the TOS show was the first to point out the galactic barrier, wasn't it? Long before the Nexus, if I recall. Weren't there even a few episodes which made use of it? "By Any Other Name" perhaps?</I.

The article was more of a "ribbon" as opposed to an all encompassing barrier..

Kudos on the TOS knowledge. BAON was one of the episodes that featured the Galactic Barrier. The other TOS episode that prominently featured the barrier was IS THERE IN TRUTH NO BEAUTY. Which guest starred Diana Mulduar. Mulduar also guest starred as Kirk's favorite kissing post in the episode RETURN TO TOMORROW. She also returned to TREK for an entire season as Dr Polaski in season 2 of Star Trek:TNG.. A thoroughly unimaginative replacement for Dr Crusher (Gates McFadden)..

<B>"Did you want to talk about the weather? Or were you just making chit chat..."</B>

Michale -

So Dems are using Jedi mind tricks to keep Boehner and the GOP from bringing up immigration reform? Wow.

I mean, Dems must be pretty powerful in that universe... right?

Speaking of universes, the TOS show was the first to point out the galactic barrier, wasn't it? Long before the Nexus, if I recall. Weren't there even a few episodes which made use of it? "By Any Other Name" perhaps?

:-)

TheStig -

There are either 199 or 200 Dems in the House right now (I'm too lazy to check), and an absolute majority is 218. So the GOP would have to make up that difference.

The real question, which I expect to explore in the coming weeks, is how many of them are willing to sign a discharge petition which would force a vote on the House floor. On immigration, or on a minimum wage hike.

Speak2 -

I discussed the "lame duck" idea earlier in the week:

http://www.chrisweigant.com/2014/02/10/the-future-of-immigration-reform/

I still don't think the lame duck idea has much traction. Because of the election results, mostly.

If it's going to happen, the lame duck session seems a more appropriate time. It absolves the incoming class, uses votes of the retiring and other outgoing members, and is early enough to have a minimal negative effect on the 2016 calendar (negative, from the GOP POV).

CW -

Just wondering: how many Republican arms must Boehner twist in order to get an immigration bill through? Wasn't it only a dozen or so for the clean debt? Did Republican support for the debt bill come from the states past their filing deadlines? That would be a good test of the Conventional Wisdom. I'm afraid these details are past my level of wonk!

I must confess the deal on the debt ceiling caught me completely off guard.

And, totally off-topic if I may.. (Just for a moment, I promise!!)

<B>Mysterious Energy Ribbon at Solar System's Edge a 'Cosmic Roadmap'</I>
http://www.space.com/24692-mysterious-energy-ribbon-solar-system.html

Look!!! It's the NEXUS!!!!! :D

Speaking of Trek, there is a second STAR TREK CONTINUES Episode available for download.. For those of you who remember, I was VERY impressed with the first STC episode that feature Michael Forrest reprising his role as the Greek god APOLLO from the TOS Episode WHO MOURNS FOR ADONIS...

For being a fan-produced episode, it was surprisingly professional. And the actors. Kirk and Scotty were perfect, Spock, Uhura and Chekov were OK. McCoy was lacking big time, but this new episode has a new McCoy, so we'll see...

Anyways, I just wanted to let ya'all know. I know someone here expressed an interest in it last time I mentioned it..

Back to our regularly scheduled mayhem. :D

Catering to Democrats on Immigration simply won't be possible for Boehner to do..

If he were to do this, after cratering to Democrats over the Debt Ceiling issue, he simply cannot survive..

There will be no action on Immigration..

In essence, Democrats traded immigration "reform" for a clean debt ceiling bill..

Which simply proves what I have always said. Democrats in Congress don't give a rip about immigrants, illegal or otherwise.

They just care about themselves first and foremost and their Party Agenda second...

The Democrats made their bed. Now they have to lie in it..
