As you may have surmised by now, from the reactions to your comment here, this is a place where everyone respects each other and engages in the kind of enlightened discussion that is not often found elsewhere.

Hopefully, you'll stick around here long enough to learn what a phenomenal place this is and be part of a discussion that is second to none on the internets.

OK Looks like we're good. :D

Um, no. Not so much. I bet I can point to a few Dems who are anti-abortion. Do you think you could find GOPers who are pro-choice? That's the difference in the tents.

I am sure if I looked I could find some pro-choice Republicans.. I am sure I can find a helluva lot of GAY Republicans, which makes the point you are trying to refute..

There's no difference in the Tents. With minor aberrations for token/PR purposes, each Party allows ONLY those who think as they do...

I only need to point to how many times I have been banned from Left Wing (and Right Wing) sites to prove THAT point. :D

And before you say it, no.. It's not HOW I post. It's WHAT I post.. :D

OK, I'll bite. Who is Pierce O'Donnell?

He was the Democrat who was indicted with a MISDEMEANOR for doing the exact same thing that d'sousa (sp) did...

So, if you cross The One, you get the horns. If you don't cross The One, you get a slap on the wrist, IF anything at all..

would have been a lot more interesting if Spock had indeed occasionally hauled off and smacked some sense into Kirk or McCoy.

TOS, THIS SIDE OF PARADISE

Spock beat the holy crap outta Kirk...

:D

So, how's that Socialized medicine workin' out for ya, eh?

(I'm assuming from your history you get VA care)

Just because it comes from the Government, does not necessarily make it "socialized"..

Further, only a small part of my care comes from the government. Long story, don't ask.. But I have regular health care. Unfortunately, since TrainWreckCare, my co-pay has gotten WAY too high.

So, while I have health insurance, I STILL can't afford to see a doctor.

Thank you for THAT, Obama... :^/

That's the problem with TrainWreckCare that none of you will see, let alone acknowledge..

Ya'all think that now that people have health insurance, all is great and fine with the world.

The problem is, the co-pay is too high for people to actually SEE a doctor, so they might as well not have ANY insurance at all...

Um, no. Not so much. I bet I can point to a few Dems who are anti-abortion. Do you think you could find GOPers who are pro-choice? That's the difference in the tents.

TheStig [4] -

D'Souza always struck me as an ideologue. Who don't normally make great movies, although there are exceptions.

Querent [6] -

Well, some weeks are better than others, what can I say? It was yet another congressional vacation week, so that meant less political news, and I didn't have anyone better for the MIDOTW. Obama's comments, tepid though they may have been, were closer to common sense than I've heard from any president back to (at least) Carter. That's a big deal. You can accuse me of being marijuana-centric this week (guilty as charged), but this is a very big deal to a lot of people.

As for the MDDOTW, who else would you suggest? I knew the award was going to be contentious this week, as not everyone saw the LCV's actions as disgusting (as I did), but I had to go with it. So my question to you is: what did you think of my runner-up (the SF people protesting the banners)? That one disgusted me, too, even though I don't for a minute believe what the banners say. The mayor put it perfectly, I thought.

strangelet [7] -

See above -- I did realize this was a limb to go out on, but had to go with it. Trading pledges for money (donations) is annoying, to me, whether it is a Lefty group or a follower of Grover Norquist. I am much happier with groups (left and right) who track politicians' votes AFTER the fact, personally.

But I did like your final thought -- any week where we are obviously stretching to give out a MDDOTW award is a pretty good one.

Michale [8] -

OK, I'll bite. Who is Pierce O'Donnell?

Vulcan Dope Slap? Hmmm... would have been a lot more interesting if Spock had indeed occasionally hauled off and smacked some sense into Kirk or McCoy...

Heh.

Querent,

This may have something to do with the over-attention to the poster called "Michale",

You must be new around here.

NO ONE pays attention to me, let alone OVER attention.. :D

who apparently can't even spell his own first name.

I also talk funny too!! :D

General Announcement:

OK, at some point over the weekend, the autofilter for comments went a bit into overdrive. Some people changed some passwords, others changed settings, that could be the reason, but it's hard to tell (it might have been under attack from a lot of spam, too).

Anyway, just wanted to say sorry and that I'll be keeping a close eye on it for a while.

Querent and strangelet, your comments have been (belatedly) approved, at numbers [6] and [7]. Michale, let me know if you can get comments through now, too.

OK, just wanted to give everyone a "heads up" and offer my apologies for the lost weekend.

Amazing. Simply amazing...

On another note, it turns out that, if you have a "website" in your Wordpress profile, it counts as your ONE LINK per comment. So any link actually put IN your comment trips the moderation sensor..

Just FYI...

or taking a test drive.

I would like to test drive a Ferrarri.. But I know I'll never buy one or even need one so why waste the time??

Considering it's entirely possible that I could spend DAYS navigating the TrainWreckCare website..... Well, I have much better things to do with my time..

Regardless of all that, I am not keen on giving the Obama Administration any more info on me than they already have..

Considering how people who say mean things about The One are treated, why take chances?? :D

Obama has the kind of Presidency that would give Nixon a wet dream....

Nope? Why the lack of curiosity? I read reviews, but it's no substitute for watching the movie, sipping the wine/beer/whiskey, or taking a test drive.

WTF indeed!

Nope? Why the lack of curiosity? I read reviews, but it's no substitute for watching the movie, sipping the wine/beer/whiskey, or taking a test drive.

WTF indeed!

I mean, seriously..

Just consider the COMPLETE and UTTER lunacy of obamacare...

To survive, obamacare MUST have at LEAST 40% of the "Young Invincibles".. That's the 18-30 year old demographic..

No way around it.. obamacare MUST have at least 40% of those enrolled be from that demographic..

Yet, obamacare turns around and says that the 18-26 yr olds CAN STAY ON THEIR PARENTS INSURANCE!!!???

We were talking about Spock before. Spock would have a conniption fit over the ILLOGIC of a plan that MUST have a certain demographic but then turns around and ELIMINATES over 60% *OF* that demographic!!????

Are you frakin' KIDDING me!!???

I am proud of the fact that I am an economic dullard.. My talents lie elsewhere..

But even a knuckle dragger like me has enough business/economic sense to know that you don't create a program that MUST have a certain demographic to survive but then eliminates over 60% of that demographic..

To put it into a context that I *AM* readily familiar with, it would be as if I created a Laptop-Repair program that HAS to have 40% MAC-Repairs to be viable, but then I state that I won't work on MACs...

Wouldn't you scratch yer head at that and say, "WTF???"

One more question. Have you actually gone through the on line sign up process?

For TrainWreckCare?? Nope. As I have mentioned, my healthcare needs are well taken care of. At least, until TrainWreckCare royally screws it up.. Which I am expecting...

But I read a lot. I read a couple of the "success stories" (yours, for example)...

And I read about the hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of horror stories..

You know the old saying... "One 'oh shit' erases a thousand 'atta-boy's"???

What do you think happens when you have a thousand 'oh shit's and a few 'atta-boy's???

Train Wreck.. :D

Republicans have done their best to ambush health care

Republicans haven't had to do SQUAT to make TrainWreckCare look bad.

Obama and his underlings have done a bang up job of that all by themselves..

Remember.. It's AFFORDABLE Care Act..

Where's the AFFORDABLE part???

It doesn't exist.

Based on that alone, obamacare = TrainWreckCare

At the VERY least, you simply MUST concede that obamacare is not living up to the hype. Hell, it ain't even living up to what was promised..

Again, that equals Train Wreck..

One more question. Have you actually gone through the on line sign up process?

I know it varies a bit from state to state, but in my case, the hardest part was creating a unique user ID and an uber strong password.

The site had plenty of issues when I signed up in the early days, but these were mostly functional, as in "@@@%^!, this damned thing won't function.

I'm sure you've seen the film Lawrence of Arabia.

Now that that's a train wreck!

Republicans have done their best to ambush health care, to set up an effective indigenous revolt, but lack a T.E. Lawrence.

By the way, that really hurts, although not as much as the more famous "Nerve Pinch" which is actually just a distraction of the victim, allowing a sneaky "testicle crunch" with Spock's free hand.

Now THAT was funny!!! :D

The government already had all the vital information it needed to process my "TWC" application.

Really??

Then all you should have had to do was type in your name and viola', you have TrainWreckCare...

Right?? :D

That is illogical.. You had to input a ton of information to apply for TrainWreckCare...

Yet, those who ask about even a FRACTION of that information from Obama are resoundingly ridiculued..

That is the point of the Spock graphic. A graphic that I did not create, but I thought it was funny as hell..

It's also funny as hell how sensitive the Left is about Obama... :D

M, (5)

The government already had all the vital information it needed to process my "TWC" application.

The Feds issued me my social security number about the time people still used the term "groovy" without being ironic.

It had my work history from social security taxes I've been paying for decades. Hint: Need to make sure your resume is accurate regarding employment dates? Visit the social security site on line and use cut and paste.

Internal Revenue has all my tax data, which provides income and family history needed to set the subsidy rate.

When I signed up, I basically reviewed the information already on file, provided minor updates (as needed) and submitted fairly solid evidence I was who I said I was. You could also say I built a Federal Case against myself if I was trying to fake my identity.

I then selected a plan from my regional health exchange. That was the hard part, reviewing the plans, seeing which plans meshed best with my preferred group of doctors, and doing a rough and ready cost benefit analysis.

You may bemoan all the data THE GOVERNMENT has on us, but the Affordable Care Act didn't start that.

The Spock poster is, well, illogical. And Spock would give you a Vulcan Dope Slap for your trouble.
By the way, that really hurts, although not as much as the more famous "Nerve Pinch" which is actually just a distraction of the victim, allowing a sneaky "testicle crunch" with Spock's free hand.

The reviews from my Fox viewing friends suggest to me that D'Souza's last movie is going to be what prevents his next movie in the next cycle.

Iddn't it amazing, though..

How different Obama's DOJ treats someone like D'Souza compared to someone like Pierce O’Donnell...

Simply more evidence that if you mess with The One, you are going to get both barrels..

And ya'all complain cuz Christie's camp closed a few lanes?? :D

I'm gonna disagree with you a little about the MDDOTW. While the League of Conservation Voters certainly has no reason to actually expect a refund, demanding one provides a reasonably entertaining way of highlighting Rep Enyart's "change of mind". Now, this is based on the assumption that he did, in fact, make some kind of pledge that has been violated by his current actions.

I don't see this so much as a case where the League "bought" his vote, as one where he "bought" the contribution by making the pledge.

OTOH, I suppose I could just be happy that if this is the MDDOTW, the Democrats had a pretty good week.

What a pathetic excuse for a column, this week. Obama gets MIDOTW for tepidly and half-heartedly SUGGESTING that marijuana isn't equivalent to trafficking with the Devil? This might be a credible choice if it were not abundantly clear that Obama is a Democrat only in his own campaign literature.

League of Conservation Voters gets MDDOTW for asking for their campaign contributions back from someone who flagrantly lied about his commitment to environmental protection? Ever notice how many campaign contributions are returned because they are improper? Do you really think the LCV seriously expects a refund? I think they made their announcement for political effect.

Instead of getting more politically sophisticated or knowledgeable, you seem to be getting more and more clueless. This may have something to do with the over-attention to the poster called "Michale", who apparently can't even spell his own first name.

I am also constrained to point out that the AFFORDABLE part of the Affordable Care Act has yet to materialize.. And, due to the fact that the TWC has yet to even come CLOSE to the required and VITAL quota of "Young Invincibles", it's highly likely that the AFFORDABLE part of the act will NEVER materialize..

On THAT basis alone, obamacare is a bona-fide train wreck...

While we're on the subject of Obamacare...

"At the end of December, over 2.2 million people had signed up for new health insurance under Obamacare. January's not even over, and we've already hit three million. And counting. As time goes by, more and more people are signing up for new insurance, exactly as predicted."

Numbers do not tell the whole story.

Granted, the world hasn't come to an end because of obamacare..

But it STILL is a train-wreck. A train-wreck facing ANOTHER do-or-die deadline..

The system that tells the insurance company who has what subsidy is STILL not in place...

All the financial information is based on THE HONOR SYSTEM!!

Mid March is the new 30 Nov....

Never fear.. The time will come (sooner rather than later) when I will be able to say "Told Ya So" about TrainWreckCare... :D

While he will now be an Independent, we Democrats would like to offer a hand in welcome to Jimmy LaSalvia, should he ever wish to join a party that is truly an inclusive 'big tent' party."

I can't let this one go by without comment..

"Big Tent Party"??

Tell that to the actress in S.F. who was fired because she supported a Tea Party candidate..

Tell that to Phil who was demonized for the god-awful sin of having a different opinion..

Big Tent???

With Democrats, yer only allowed into the tent if you toe the Party line..

There is no difference between the GOP Tent and the DEM Tent.

Anyone is welcome in their tents. As long as they believe as the tent believes...

As to the GOP's War On Women??

How is the Left's War On Unborn Children going???

It's all in the spin...
