Further, only a small part of my care comes from the government. Long story, don't ask.. But I have regular health care. Unfortunately, since TrainWreckCare, my co-pay has gotten WAY too high.

So, while I have health insurance, I STILL can't afford to see a doctor.

Well, some weeks are better than others, what can I say? It was yet another congressional vacation week, so that meant less political news, and I didn't have anyone better for the MIDOTW. Obama's comments, tepid though they may have been, were closer to common sense than I've heard from any president back to (at least) Carter. That's a big deal. You can accuse me of being marijuana-centric this week (guilty as charged), but this is a very big deal to a lot of people.

As for the MDDOTW, who else would you suggest? I knew the award was going to be contentious this week, as not everyone saw the LCV's actions as disgusting (as I did), but I had to go with it. So my question to you is: what did you think of my runner-up (the SF people protesting the banners)? That one disgusted me, too, even though I don't for a minute believe what the banners say. The mayor put it perfectly, I thought.

See above -- I did realize this was a limb to go out on, but had to go with it. Trading pledges for money (donations) is annoying, to me, whether it is a Lefty group or a follower of Grover Norquist. I am much happier with groups (left and right) who track politicians' votes AFTER the fact, personally.

But I did like your final thought -- any week where we are obviously stretching to give out a MDDOTW award is a pretty good one.

OK, at some point over the weekend, the autofilter for comments went a bit into overdrive. Some people changed some passwords, others changed settings, that could be the reason, but it's hard to tell (it might have been under attack from a lot of spam, too).

One more question. Have you actually gone through the on line sign up process?

I know it varies a bit from state to state, but in my case, the hardest part was creating a unique user ID and an uber strong password.

The site had plenty of issues when I signed up in the early days, but these were mostly functional, as in "@@@%^!, this damned thing won't function.

I'm sure you've seen the film Lawrence of Arabia.

The government already had all the vital information it needed to process my "TWC" application.

The Feds issued me my social security number about the time people still used the term "groovy" without being ironic.

It had my work history from social security taxes I've been paying for decades. Hint: Need to make sure your resume is accurate regarding employment dates? Visit the social security site on line and use cut and paste.

Internal Revenue has all my tax data, which provides income and family history needed to set the subsidy rate.

When I signed up, I basically reviewed the information already on file, provided minor updates (as needed) and submitted fairly solid evidence I was who I said I was. You could also say I built a Federal Case against myself if I was trying to fake my identity.

I then selected a plan from my regional health exchange. That was the hard part, reviewing the plans, seeing which plans meshed best with my preferred group of doctors, and doing a rough and ready cost benefit analysis.

You may bemoan all the data THE GOVERNMENT has on us, but the Affordable Care Act didn't start that.

The Spock poster is, well, illogical. And Spock would give you a Vulcan Dope Slap for your trouble.
By the way, that really hurts, although not as much as the more famous "Nerve Pinch" which is actually just a distraction of the victim, allowing a sneaky "testicle crunch" with Spock's free hand.

I don't see this so much as a case where the League "bought" his vote, as one where he "bought" the contribution by making the pledge.

OTOH, I suppose I could just be happy that if this is the MDDOTW, the Democrats had a pretty good week.

League of Conservation Voters gets MDDOTW for asking for their campaign contributions back from someone who flagrantly lied about his commitment to environmental protection? Ever notice how many campaign contributions are returned because they are improper? Do you really think the LCV seriously expects a refund? I think they made their announcement for political effect.
