General note -

I teased Michale so mercilessly after the 2012 election (and Karl Rove's public Fox meltdown)that I'm going to take a pass on doing so in 2013.

McAuliffe won, but by nowhere near as much as he could (or should) have. See: previous "stinkeroo" comment.

I mean, he had to outspend Cuccinelli like 10-1 to get a 2.5 percent win?

Anyway, my basic point in this article did indeed stand up: many drew sweeping conclusions, few of which were justified by the facts.

Onward to 2014 -- a much more interesting contest!

Michale,

From #2, "That record will *probably* be broken tonight.. :D".

I would have said might, instead of probably, but the underlying agreement remains.

Just be willing to do it when you really put your foot in your mouth. Calling an election wrong? One thing. Denying atrocities and history? Another.

Wanna re-visit this in the morning?? :D

Absolutely!

Ok ... All kidding aside, I have to say it's a bit of a hollow victory because it's Terry McAuliffe. Sheesh, Dems. Can't you find anyone better than one of the worst DNC chairs ever? He very nearly managed to snatch defeat from victory.

Two, McAuliffe was a real stinkeroo of a candidate before Obamacare ever came along. Democrats are actually pretty shocked that he's going to win this thing. But he will, sorry.

Over 60% of the votes are in and it's CUCCINELLI with 48.03% and MCAULIFFE with 44.66%

Michale -

Two things. Yeah, I know, I predict all kinds of things myself. Hey, keeps me off the streets, right?

Heh.

That record will *probably* be broken tonight.. :D

McAuliffe is running as the "obamacare candidate"...

And, in Virginia, obamacare is about as popular as herpes at a Lifestyle party..

His win, will probable, is FAR FAR from a forgone conclusion...

The governor's race always happens a year after the presidential election, and Virginia has consistently elected as governor the candidate from the party who lost the White House in the previous year. That record will be broken tomorrow night.

That record will *probably* be broken tonight.. :D

Instead, I'm offering up a plea to columnists everywhere to resist the urge to proclaim trends and predict what will happen a year from now.

Yea.. Lemme know how that works out for ya... :D

I guess I'll vote for Marty Walsh. I wish I had more information about which of them would be the more competent administrator.
