Establishment Republicans loved the Tea Party when they were able to be controlled.

They don't seem to like them so much now that they're trying to wrest control from establishment leadership.

exactly. the tea party started out as an astroturf movement to exploit the masses and get out the vote. now it's an honest to god populist movement, and the moneyed types that funded its beginnings hate anything that smells like genuine populism. poetic justice if you ask me.

The best "looking forward" article I read all week was from David Leopold at the Huffington Post. In it, he examines why the Republican Party could undo a lot of their self-inflicted damage by immediately getting behind immigration reform.

This would be great, right?

I don't see it happening though because of the Republican base.

Because of ...

Turning against tactical radicalism would involve serious political risk. So every setback is interpreted as a need for greater purity and commitment.

The whole Michael Gerson excerpt is amazing. Establishment Republicans loved the Tea Party when they were able to be controlled.

They don't seem to like them so much now that they're trying to wrest control from establishment leadership.

Thanks for posting, CW!

Great post. And I love the script.
But I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the GOP to start working constructively to fix the ACA (or anything else, for that matter).
And as far as the sedition petition (try to say that three times fast), I think of it like the various petitions to secede that the right-wingers flooded the WH with. Or maybe the petition to build a "Death Star". No one expects it to go anywhere, but it's used to make a rhetorical point about the GOPs actions.

as i recall, CW, you made the same point vis-a-vis puerto rican statehood. can the GOP show some foresight and listen? only time will tell...

Chris,

I don't see the problem with enabling the ads. And, if they are generating any kind of financial benefit to CW.com you'd be crazy to disable them. Please don't!

Unrelated Program Note:

OK, I have disabled the ads (for now). Please, everyone, let me know if this causes problems, and also how you feel about me doing so.

More later...

Well I will say it hits the points, don't think it will stick unfortunately. You guys underestimate the Republican cling to the American brain stem. See, how freaked you were the first couple days of the shutdown.

To say nothing of the "Hills Are Alive" opening scene and Julie Andrews in The Sound Of Music.

Heh.
