"ICE officers and USCIS adjudications officers have pleaded with lawmakers not to adopt this bill, but to work with us on real, effective reforms for the American people.

The Schumer-Rubio-Corker-Hoeven proposal will make Americans less safe and it will ensure more illegal immigration—especially visa overstays—in the future. It provides legalization for thousands of dangerous criminals while making it more difficult for our officers to identify public safety and national security threats.

The legislation was guided from the beginning by anti-enforcement special interests and, should it become law, will have the desired effect of these groups: blocking immigration enforcement

We urge all lawmakers to oppose the final cloture vote on Thursday and to oppose the bill."
-Immigration and Border Patrol Agents

That's all I need to know...

Um, I was present for that. Name me one time (just one!) when any Republican/conservative group booed anything the Bush administration did.

Actually boo'ed?? I don't know.. I don't get out much.. :D

But it is undeniable that much of what Bush did in the name of National Security was what caused his popularity numbers to go down amongst the Right...

Which is why I respect Bush as a leader.. He did what he felt was right for the country and to hell with what was politically popular...

The Left policies its own. The Right cowers in fear when their extremists take the microphone. That's the difference between the two parties. We hold our own accountable, unlike the Right.

I see no evidence that the Left and the Right are not equal in this...

The problem here is, what YOU term Right "extremists" are simply the people on the Right that ya'all disagree MOST with..

Those on the Right love their extremists.. :D

The conflict comes in how one defines "extremist".. The Left has theirs and the Right has theirs..

As for the Border Patrol, is illegal immigration a bigger problem than drugs? Is it a bigger problem than terrorism? Is it a bigger problem than Wall Street excesses? Is it a bigger problem than felons getting weapons? Is it a bigger problem than EVERYTHING the FBI does?

It depends on how one defines "bigger"...

In the vein of costs, yes, I would say that illegal immigration is "bigger"...

In terms of National Security, while it ranks up there, it's not "bigger"...

Really? Honestly? As a former LEO, you're really taking that position?

Uh.... Which position would that be?? :D

Say if, in the military, they decided that out of a LEO budget of $100 billion, they were putting the most money towards finding AWOLs. Would you consider that the best use of resources?

Oh.. THAT position..

Your analogy is somewhat flawed...

The Border Patrol EXISTS solely and completely to interdict illegal traffic coming over the borders.. There is no other reason for it to exist.

They have NO OTHER PRIORITY, save that one..

The Border Patrol does NOT exist to facilitate the crossing of Undocumented Democrats, despite what the Obama Administration would want...

As for Snowden, I watched a few hours of cable TV Sunday morning (the morning the "Snowden's in Russia!" story broke) while waiting for a ride, and have come to the conclusion that cable TV is even dumber than I had thought. Ooooh! Look! A shiny object! Let's all run over here!!!

I would agree that the "CATCH ME IF YOU CAN" scenarios played out in the MSM is lame..

But the damage that Snowden has done to our intelligence apparatus is incalculable..

You can bet that the next successful terrorist attack that occurs on US Proper will likely be accomplished because of the intelligence leaks that Snowden made...

The blood from all those deaths will be on Snowden's hands...

OK, maybe on immigration reform... but still... one example please?

The Left policies its own. The Right cowers in fear when their extremists take the microphone. That's the difference between the two parties. We hold our own accountable, unlike the Right.

Say if, in the military, they decided that out of a LEO budget of $100 billion, they were putting the most money towards finding AWOLs. Would you consider that the best use of resources? Maybe that's not the perfect example, but I think you understand what I'm saying here. It's all about the priorities.

As for Snowden, I watched a few hours of cable TV Sunday morning (the morning the "Snowden's in Russia!" story broke) while waiting for a ride, and have come to the conclusion that cable TV is even dumber than I had thought. Looks like NRN is being hard on Democrats in Congress.. :D

Couldn't happen to a more deserving lot of politicians...

Get a VERY small taste of what was dished out to President Bush...

This is the last of the re-run columns for the week, and it is the oldest. I wrote this in early 2010 (before the election), right when Arizona had passed a sweeping anti-immigrant law.

Again, let's be accurate here.

Arizona passed a sweeping anti-ILLEGAL-immigrant law...

hink about that for a moment. Our federal policing priorities already are more heavily weighted towards policing the border than fighting every other type of federal crime.

If you crunch JUST the numbers, you would be right..

But Border Enforcement is more than just numbers.

The POLICIES in place have a lot MORE to do with it than just the numbers.

And the policy of TBS and ignoring illegal border crossings, which have epitomized the Obama Administration's view of Border "Security" has made the border a lot LESS secure than it has ever been.
