I'm thinking particularly of your comparison of how the Military (by analogy with their response once racial integration laws were in place) may become an important, active and effective "change agent" on this issue. I was a civilian employee for a couple of decades and know they could well do so. They have been trained to set aside personal, emotional attitudes in pursuit of a goal. They did so before (witness Colin Powell's rise to Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff) and they just might do so again.
