The Mayans never predicted the world would end this month. I think they predicted at least another 8000 years!

Yea, and I hope I am around to see it! :D

I did my little numbers game yesterday.. I bought 12 lottery tickets at exactly 1212hrs on 12/12/12...

I at least got my money back, plus a dollar extra... :^/

I was a lot more successful last year when I bought 11 lottery tickets at exactly 1111hrs on 11/11/11.. I won $30 bucks then.. :)

So, I'm afraid you're still on solid track to make this a very Merry Christmas for CW.com Inc.

Oh, no doubt.. :D

All commentary here has given me a good laugh, that said I would say half a loaf is better than none.Oh the potential for comedy is immense. We shall see how this turns out let us not forget that the Supreme's remain conservative.

I also predict that these events will be considered signs of the apocalypse at World Net Daily.

Yea, much as the heralds of Left Wing rhetoric predicted that The Patriot Act would bring us Jack-Booted Stormtroopers and midnight knocks at the door... :D

Hahahahaahahahahahaaahh

A quick interesting thought. This has nothing to do with Supreme Courtacy and everything to do with politics.

What if conservatives are interested in taking the gay marriage issue off the table?

I think this actually might be a good move for them as public opinion seems to be in the Democrats' favor on this.

I'm not sure of the effect it would have on their Christian base but I doubt it would be an issue with their Libertarian base.

Anyways ... I'm all for support wherever you can find it. Politics makes strange bedfellows as they say and, seemingly would fit in with much of your argument Chris.

Chris,

Interesting analysis. My view, however is that you are overlooking the fact that Prop 8 wasn't decided on the basis of the separate but unequal marriage rights it imposed in California, and I don't see, "once you've allowed it you can never change your mind," as a constitutional principle appropriate to a democracy. The trial judge, however, was very careful to decide that there was no State interest involved in banning gay marriage nor were there any constitutional grounds for it.

IMHO if SCOTUS affirms the judge's decision it cuts the legs out from under all gay marriage bans, and I don't see how they can totally reject the decision of the trier-of-fact and yet affirm a decision on some other grounds they've invented out of whole cloth. Still, this is the Robert's court. They might just do anything.

And DOMA? Clearly unconstitutional also. And the kind of ruling you envision would mandate separate but unequal as the law of the land, with any state that chooses to ban gay-marriage being forced to recognize some marriages while refusing to acknowledge others. Though like Prop 8, the decision and its impact will be totally dependent on the willingness of the court to either obey the Constitution or rewrite the Constitution. Personally, I wouldn't give odds on the Constitution winning.

About that "half loaf:" I predict that the marriage equality lobby will not be satisfied with a mere half loaf.

Maybe the Mayans were right and the world WILL end this month..

About that "half loaf:" I predict that the marriage equality lobby will not be satisfied with a mere half loaf. I further predict that the same bullet point will manifest in gay divorce. When that Texas lesbian couple asks their state to provide separation -- just like any other divorcing couple has a right to ask of the state -- Texas will probably resist, and then we'll have another court case for the other half of this loaf.

I also predict that these events will be considered signs of the apocalypse at World Net Daily.
