Looks like Obama's speech is long on hysterical rhetoric blaming (you guessed it) Wall Street, but short on facts..

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/fact-checker/post/obamas-kansas-speech-some-suspect-facts/2011/12/06/gIQAUU45aO_blog.html?hpid=z1

I mean, seriously..

If Wall Street is so evil, why is Obama continuing to take money from there???

tinsldr2 -

What I refrained from pointing out is that Teddy lost on the "Bull Moose" ticket, running on this platform. Didn't want to clutter a very interesting speech up with conclusions...

Like reading Tocqueville, there are quotes in that speech that both Lefties and Righties will love. That's one of the main reasons I felt a transcript of it was worth printing...

<I>"No man is worth his salt in public life who makes on the stump a pledge which he does not keep after election; and, if he makes such a pledge and does not keep it, hunt him out of public life. "</I>

I like these old quotes..

They are so applicable in the here and now... :D

Gitmo? unemployment under 8%? Ending the war? Patriot act? Taxes? Cap and trade!

Go Obama! No, really just go, Teddy says he should be hunted out of office!

"Capital has its rights, which are as worthy of protection as any other rights. ... Nor should this lead to a war upon the owners of property. Property is the fruit of labor; ... property is desirable; is a positive good in the world."

"When I say I want a square deal for the poor man, I do not mean that I want a square deal for the man who remains poor because he has not got the energy to work for himself." ~ Agree!!!

re-distribute my work ethic not my wealth!

Will finish the article later but once again thanks Chris!

So much passion, Michale

Leave it to the Irish to get it right

Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
are full of Passionate intensity.

HawkOwl,

How I read that quote is just because someone is a "have" and another person is a "have not", that doesn't give the "have not" the right to take a "have" and try to make him into a "have not"..

It's apropos in the here and now because that is exactly what the defunct Oowzer movement tried to do..

Interesting quote, Michale. I'm not sure how exactly it applies in a world, in a time where houses were sold by banks, realtors, speculators etc. to people who clearly were not financially capable of making the payments, then sold the mortgages to speculators who "bundled" and diced them by the thousands to sell to other speculators who'd make a quick profit during the boom times, then sell them to other speculators, who'd sell them to . . .??
Who is the "owner" amid all this? Or does your reading of TR imply that only carpenters "build" their own homes ? ? ?

<B>"Let not him who is houseless pull down the house of another, but let him work diligently and build one for himself, thus by example assuring that his own shall be safe from violence when built."</B>

This deserves to be repeated over and over and over and over and over again....

This is so apropos to today's world, it is downright scary!!

All in all a very good speech...
