Smoot-Hawley ?! I didn't think anyone alive had even heard such exotica. I thoroughly agree with akadjian above. It is a pleasure to read someone who can learn from the past and actually THINK about the implications involved today. It sheds light on the irony of how easily & quickly research on our {American] past can be done . . . and how rarely the press will abandon it's campaign race dualistic narrative line to do so. The political "RACE"'s soo dramatic, isn't it? Kinda like the Chicken Little weather reporting on The Weather channel. Mostly irrelevant, but, God, isn't it dramatic?

Besides, research would disclose facts, which are unsuitable for inclusion in the MSM. Facts have far too much liberal bias. Reciting two sets of talking points is much more even-handed.

I didn't know that. That is a good story! The more you look at it, the more parallels there are.

But I understand the media's situation. It's hard work writing down what other people are saying and simply printing it. Research?! Psssshhhhh. Why research when you can just quote both sides prepared statements :)
