Matt,

And the president succeeds in making the birth certificate an international joke. Good on him.

Chris,

One of these days, I hope to order up a pint or two of "the customary" myself. Dublin sounds like my kind of town ...

Perhaps, someone at the pub put the bills (greenbacks?) back into President Obama's pocket when he wasn't looking. :)

Slainte! (sorry, I can't do the accent)

Yeah, that was pretty funny, I have to admit!

The Irish do love a good joke, that's for sure...

Liz -

I have been to Ireland many, many times now. I have ordered many, many pints of "the customary" (as a pint of Sir Arthur's magical product is, at times, referred to). I have toured the same brewery the Queen of England has now toured (the place where she refused her pint is the most awesome point to view Dublin in the entire city, I might add -- the circular bar at the top of the brewery, with a full 360-degree panorama of the town). I have tried -- through force, through subterfuge, and through every other imaginable tactic -- to pay for a pint of Guinness Stout on Erin's fair shores. I have, as of yet, never been able to actually pay for a pint out of my own pocket. I speak, in other words, from experience. I fully admit, the fact that I was shacking up with a fair cailín may have possibly had something to do with it, but then I went on to marry her, so everything worked out for the best.

Which reminds me: Irish folks think the American name "Colleen" is funny, because it's just the Gaelic word for "girl"... but that's neither here nor there, I guess.

Anyway, this late at night, the only thing to say is:

Sláinte!

:-)

I just have one question ...

Why didn't Obama mention that his vice president also has Irish ancestry? I mean, Biden is one guy in the White House who goes around quoting his favourite Irish poets, ad Bidenitum, after all ...

President Obama has so many "home towns" that even I'm not sure where he was born anymore.

Chris,

I'm pretty sure Obama paid for his pint ... and, he left a pretty good tip, too, unless my failing eyes deceive me, again.
