CW,

You mean like this? Or something else?

Most of that sounds pretty good..

Obviously more has to be done, but it must be done covertly...

But I was interested in what's your take? Do you believe we should do more than lend moral/verbal support for the Iran protesters??

Stan -

Excellent point. Now is the time for Obama to earn that prize.

Osborne Ink -

Yeah, Yemen's been a bloodbath for a while now, on multiple fronts. Thanks for the link...

Michale -

You mean like this? Or something else?

David -

There's something about being on the other end of the equation that focuses the mind and spurs the memory.

At this point, fingers crossed Bahrain doesn't become more bloody, too...

Program Notes:

OK, I have been woefully lacking in responding to comments for a while, so I'm going to work on that right now. Check columns for the past week or so to see new comments as they appear in the next few hours.

Two technical site notes, since I've got your attention. The first is, when columns here now post that are cross-posted on HuffPost, they will be posted with a link to my "author" page on HuffPost (at first). This link:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/chris-weigant/

shows all my most recent columns. If the current column isn't on top of this list, it hasn't posted yet at HuffPost. Once HuffPost does post the column, I will try to remember to go back and update the link at the bottom of the column here, so that it takes you straight to that particular column on HuffPost. This is the best workaround I could come up with, so let me know what you think.

Secondly, I'd like to invite everyone to check out the most recent link on my "blogroll," in the "Just For Fun" category: The Jigsaw Puzzles, who provide a daily jigsaw puzzle for you to waste your boss' time on (heh). Anyway, just wanted to point it out (I really have to update my whole blogroll one of these weeks, I admit...) for the puzzlesolving contingent out there.

At the time, American conservatives latched onto a theory: If President Obama had strongly voiced America's support for the uprising, then things would have been different.

Its a fine line. Leaders in the Middle East rise to power by taking advantage of anti-Western, anti-Israeli sentiment. American support for something almost guarantees that it won't be popular with the average person on the street. It's like support from Israel. It will draw immediate skepticism.

When I lived in Turkey, I was amazed at how much people I met knew about the history of the Middle East and our role. Much more than the most people I know here. They weren't anti-American, but they could explain the difference between United States marketing: freedom, Democracy, and liberty; and United States policy: secure the oil and support dictators who promise stability.

Fingers crossed Yemen doesn't become a bloodbath.

Because I just don't see the Iranians giving up control without a brutal fight -- no matter what President Obama has to say about it in the meantime.

So, what's your take on the Obama Administration doing MORE than just talk???

What about a little direct covert intervention in support of the Iranian protests??

Good roundup, Chris. The only thing I'd add is that while American drones have been flying over Yemen, there was a spate of jet-fighter bombing...by Saudis. Yemen has actually been a bloodbath and is the most likely nation to create big time blowback. Link:

The US and Obama need to be very careful about what they say - twitter during the next few days. Remember the last time the US encouraged revolution? They stopped at the Kuwaiti border and hundreds if not thousands of Iraqis died and the US went back in 10 years later as we know.

I am hoping that President Obama can live up to his Nobel Peace Prize in the next weeks and show us that he really deserved it!
