The shocking things about this Republican sex scandal were: (1) it didn't involve young boys, (2) it didn't involve the Appalachian Trail, and (3) it didn't even involve sex. How mundane can you get?

In 1934, Brownlee was sued for seduction by Vivian MacMillan, a family friend. The jury in the trial found in MacMillan's favour. Though the judge disregarded the jury's verdict, the trial's lurid testimony and the stigma resulting from the jury's finding forced Brownlee to resign as premier.
