To really see whether a "bump" appears or not is going to take about a week or so. Remember, almost all of this stuff happened at the end of December, and there wasn't a whole lot of polling done over the holidays. So give it another week's worth of data before drawing any conclusions, that's my advice.

And great advice it is, as usual..

Now, pardon me while I wipe this brown stuff off my nose... :D

Michale, nypoet22 -

I tend to shy away from this sort of thing, because I think it's reading too much into a single poll -- what Robert A. Heinlein used to call "making too much stew from a single oyster" -- but I'll toss it out there for you both to chew on.

NYpoet,

Your logic is sound..

However, I would have thought that, for such a momentous event as the repeal of DADT, that it would be more than a "smattering" of Lefties and that they would have forgone Undecided and jumped right into the Approval category..

Ya have to sympathize with the Obama Administration in a way.. They have to be wondering, "Jeezus, what do we have to do!!???" :D

michale,

with all the alleged "good" news coming from the Lame Duck session, one would expect Obama's poll numbers to show a statistically significant rise...

This did not happen and I am curious as to why that is..

My guess is that the slight drop from disapproval to undecided is the beginning of a trend. i think a smattering of lefties, especially those to whom the DADT repeal was important, are transitioning from firmly critical to a wait-and-see attitude, thinking perhaps obama has finally turned a corner and begun to get his act together. if i'm right, the disapproval will drop a bit more and the undecided will rise a bit more, but the approval rate won't change much.

. Even with all the fractious political fights in the lame duck congressional session which played out last month, Obama -- once again -- is proving to be steadier than the entire political punditocracy would ever have given him credit for.

The flip side of that argument however, is that with all the alleged "good" news coming from the Lame Duck session, one would expect Obama's poll numbers to show a statistically significant rise...
