David,

From what I understand, the DREAM Act would allow illegals to obtain citizenship if the serve two years in the US Military or four years in college.

That, to me, is a very sensible approach to illegal immigration. It's not "amnesty" because illegals are not being GIVEN citizenship.. They are EARNING it...

If the Act is what I believe it is, then the GOP are morons for not supporting it...

p.s. Gotta luv Harry Reid. Sometimes, I think he suffers from foot-in-mouth disease.

He does seem to pick the most inopportune times to screw the pooch...

What's DREAM?

Seriously, Michale. Haven't had a chance to keep up on this. Looks like an opportunity to earn citizenship by serving in the military?

Well, once again, we are all in agreement here on CW.COM...

The media sucks and politicians on the Right and the Left are the same insofar as they take advantage of it.

And, just let me add (for no reason whatsoever, other than it's shock value :D) I support the DREAM act completely...

Would it be all that big a change today if you only ever saw Republican candidates for office on Fox News, and Democratic candidates for office on MSNBC?

I'm not sure if it would be much of a change whatsoever, Chris. I think most politicians arrange the questions w/ whoever it is that's interviewing them in advance anyways.

I'd agree with Liz that it would be nice to see the media do more. For example, ask some tough questions to get beyond the simple talking points of both parties.

The Catch-22 of this is that many politicians have realized the situation journalists are in and how their jobs are dependent on access. So folks like Bush and Obama will only grant interviews if they know they're not going to get any tough questions.

Me personally, I think it gives folks credibility when they can shine in a tough interview. However, politicians are like electricity - they follow the path of least resistance - and if avoiding the media works, they'll likely do it.

Given the current state of the media, though, I don't think it would make much difference.

Cheers

Chris,

Is the problem with the media today really that they may be biased towards the left or the right or anything else or even that Republican and Democratic candidates may gravitate only towards those news outlets that reflect their own political ideologies?

I think the real problem that requires our thoughtful attention concerns the fact that the media - all parts and political persuasions of it - is largely incapable of providing real journalism as ineptitude and incompetence run rampant through their ranks. I’ve come to the conclusion that we are pretty much doomed and destined to reap the unhappy consequences of an ill-informed electorate and a media collectively incapable of understanding the role and importance of a free and intelligent press in a democracy, much less capable of responsibly performing their duty.
