Michale -

Yeah, we're safe, thanks. A gas main (like a supply-sized main, not just a house's main) blew up in a gigantic fireball, just south of SF. But we're far far away from there.

dsws,

Coining that word has got to be the best thing he ever did.

Indeed!

And, I don't think it's possible to over-misunderestimate the media. They keep insisting on lowering the bar ...

So, everyone ... how was the press conference? I missed it, sadly.

Chris,

Well, the day is still young ...

Anything can happen yet and often does on a late Friday afternoon. In fact, I think a late Friday announcement like this would be, well ... perfect. :)

Don't be too quick to get your FTP column up today. I'm just saying ...

"The media, after all, can hardly explain what the nomination fight is all about without including some form of: "...this position is a new one, created by the Wall Street reform that Democrats passed earlier this year.""

I'm afraid you've misunderestimated the MSM.

Michale,

Granted, that's from Mid July.

Was that supposed to make me laugh? The timing of this HP wisdom really misses the point ... about HP wisdom.

I always expect so much more from you.

Uh Liz,

Geithner DOES oppose the Warren nomination..

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/07/15/tim-geithner-opposes-nomi_n_647691.html

Granted, that's from Mid July.. But I don't find anything more current that would indicate that Geithner has changed his mind on opposing Warren...

I think CW nailed it when he said that the Wall Street types (of which Geithner is undeniably part of) don't want someone as strong willed as Warren in that role..

Chris,

I think it's a pretty safe bet that you are guessing right. This nomination has been pretty much a no-brainer from the get-go. Of course, the "professional left" will be quick to take credit for forcing the president and treasury secretary to make this decision and, if that's what makes them happy, they can believe anything they want. I don't care about them anymore - or, at least, I'm trying ...

Actually, none other than Secretary Geithner has been telegraphing this nomination for some time now. Of course, anyone who knows anything about Geithner knows that he would never publically voice any outright support for her nomination or for any other candidate before the actual announcement. There were plenty of signs, though.

The "professional left" however, know nothing about Geithner and therefore they misconstrued this kind of integrity as a sure sign that Geithner opposes the Warren nomination.
